Like many artists, I’ve been exploring ways to integrate this new technology into my craft. The best methods I’ve discovered so far involve idea generation, which this video explores. You’ll notice that none of the sounds generated are identical to our starting sound - and that’s intentional. We’re leveraging AI to spark our creativity in novel ways, not generate a carbon copy. While these patches can be used ‘out of the box,’ I believe a more effective approach is to resample and combine them with synth patches. For example, I took some of these bass sounds and loaded them into a Phase Plant (keeping with the plant theme) sampler oscillator to build a patch around the sample. As mentioned, one method is sampling tracks, but you can also sample your old projects, sample libraries, and foley sounds. The possibilities are truly endless, allowing you to explore new sonic horizons.
Thank you! Haha, no, I write the scripts myself. I usually transcribe my thoughts as I'm going over the on-screen project, which makes it sound more like how I talk. You can run the subtitles file through an AI detector if you'd like to check though, as I know it's becoming more common. I've found GPT to be inaccurate for music production, especially when you get into the technical weeds of stuff. However, it's great for correcting grammatical errors and cleaning up text, which is one use case I've found for it.
I've played with this before, but in addition to this VST not being able to replicate many sounds at all, the biggest weakness is that nearly all generated synth presets are incredibly unstable. As in, you cannot really in most cases modify the sound without it completely falling apart. So you are basically locked into using the plant/seed solution to find new sounds.
What sounds are you having trouble with? I agree that Synplant isn't a silver bullet, but I've found it useful in many scenarios. For instance, I've created numerous bass/low synth sounds that work well (like in the video). Same for pads, atmospheres and one-shots. But, for leads, not so much. If a sound in Synplant is unstable despite adjusting the controls, consider resampling it into a sampler. This method can provide more stability for sounds that initially show promise. Additionally, I think Synplant is better viewed as a starting point, rather than a finished product. It's a great tool for generating ideas and sparking creativity.
