I was at the other stadium series game this year and this is exactly what I’d say. Sure it’s freezing and you can barely see the players and it’s expensive as hell but it’s so fun. The energy, the volume, the sheer amount of fans. And my devs won so that’s a huge plus as well. Probably the second best game I’ve ever been to.
I like the different camera angles you sometimes get with outdoor games. It's a small detail, but seeing everything from the same 10 perspectives for years on end makes it refreshing to see things from something like an overhead cable camera.
*ECK:* Hey! How was your trip to China? *FRIEND:* Great! Hey! I got ya something while I was over there. *ECK:* Whoa! A Ryan Callahan jersey.....wait. This says the "New Yark Ringers"....
And by the way, why was Lafreniere not given 2 for diving on that Mayfield trip? It looked like an awfully easy fall when I saw it live on the broadcast, but after rewatching it, it looked so much more blatant
What's funny to me is their jerseys, if you take their names out the isles look like an Oilers jersey and for Rangers a winnipeg jersey. (Of course not their main jersey but rather an alternative that they've once both had were very similar)
I was just there and it was so electric I can’t even describe !!! It was a good game overall, but I’m so happy the Rangers pulled through! For an 80,000 seat stadium, there were 79,690 fans in attendance (i’m in the red jacket at the top, right @2:17 irrelevant, but I have to flex I’m so proud)
I thought it was a cool concept with having Devils Vs Flyers the night before and this game day after. Plus it helps that my home state Devils pulled out a nice win over Philly. All in all, an action filled weekend stadium series. Both games were fun and exciting
A friend of mine ordered a Callahan jersey from China, and when it arrived, the Captain's C was actually a G. All our friends started calling it the Gallahan jersey. 😂
They showed this stat during the game but the rangers were 4-0-0 in outdoor games and lavi was 0-3-1 in outdoor games What a way to get lavi his first win in an outdoor game 😂
Shesty got better as the game went on, Isle’s goalie was weak too which made for an interesting game Between two top goaltenders, both off their games somewhat so you knew any rush down ice might wind up a goal. Also, the Rangers did managed to even the ice out by mid-game after being thoroughly outplayed the first half of the game. then took advantage of the power plays and the goalie pulls. being a rangers fan, I’m inbred to hate the Islanders lol but Matt Martin pulled one of the classiest moves I’ve ever seen from anyone in an islander shirt. For Rempe, a 6’8” 140lb bruiser on his 1st shift in the NHL to be offered a scrum with the veteran legendary tough guy…just a classy move by Martin. And Rempe held his own quite well!!!
The strangest part of this game, wasn't anything on the ice. It was the people paid to walk back and forth in that "park" at the broadcast left. A guy walking his dog, a woman pushing a stroller, people riding bikes.
The absolute best play of that game was during the final power play. Isles had a chance to clear towards an empty Ranger net but the shot was too low and Fox hit the puck down out of mid air to keep it in the offensive zone and they end up scoring. Had the puck gone down the ice there may have been a much different outcome. The pressure against the Isles was sustained and brutal. It’s little plays like that by Fox or others than can change an outcome and most people didn’t even notice. I’m not a huge fan of these outdoor games just because the camera work seems to be from so far away. But the NHL has really upped their game and this recent series was much better.
Just paused at 1:16 for this, calling the deflection goal pretty soft on Igor’s part is just so wrong, deflected shots are 99% of the time up to luck if the goalie saves it or not
I still don't understand why the Rangers were shorthanded when Horvat scored that third goal. Laffy was in the box for a call and the Islanders scored making it 2-1. I must have missed something, why were there 4 Rangers on the ice for the third goal?

I left the game a little early today because I thought there was no hope, but hearing all the goals outside the arena was heartbreaking, but electric at the same time.

That rangers winter classic Jersey with the shield is my favourite winter classic Jersey to date. There's been some nice ones. There's also been some stinkers. I think they set the bar too high with that one though.

The NHL called incidental contact on 2 defending teammates to disallow goals in the past (though it was never made clear when that or any incidental contact applies), yet that OT goal was confirmed so quickly I mean look at Vanek's OT goal on Halak that was disallowed by the NHL going out of their way to call in despite on-ice officials & Halak knowing it was a legit goal, the NHL later sent Kris King to the Isles broadcast not to apologize for the terrible decision that cost the Isles the game, but to double down on it & deliver a made up reason for why it was supposed to make sense, apparently Vanek "dragged it in" which made no sense, if that's the level of fine detail they are going to allege they have the ability to change the games with, what happened to considering incidental contact all of a sudden? The NHL does what it wants
The rule in play applies to both intentional and incidental dislodging of the net. As long as it's the defending team and there's an "imminent scoring chance", the ref can rule it a goal.
@@dcaf94 So incidental contact & all considerations like that are specifically discounted? And here's the "may" or "can" situation, does may or can have to consider incidental contact or not? That's what you're suggesting but it is not written in the rule
