This song was inspired by the questions Rea's 6-year-old daughter, Josephine, would ask him. She was horrified when a news report came on about unrest in South Africa that showed a man being burned alive. Josephine began asking questions like "what is heaven?" In this song, Rea helps her cope by assuring her that there is indeed a heaven, even though it doesn't explain the atrocities that happen around the world on a daily basis. Where did Christopher Rea live as a child? Christopher Rea was born in Middlesbrough in the North Riding of Yorkshire to an Italian father, Camillo Rea (died December 2010), and an Irish mother, Winifred Slee (died September 1983), as one of seven children. His family were of the Roman Catholic faith.
There’s a Heaven... this I know my friend, I was given a God given glimpse within a dream and it was indescribable and we are incapable of experiencing this incredible love that is awaiting us and our eyes will be opened to all that is good, with no pain, sadness or tears ever to be remembered again. He does. He wrote this to answer the questions his daughter Josephine asked him after watching a newsreel about South Africa. She asked him if there was a heaven.
I have the same reaction... Yet I can't understand why people find this a spiritual song.. It is part of the soundtrack of my shift to atheism , some years back
I've often thought that if I was a movie director and I was filming a scene in which the performers were required to cry real tears that I'd sit them down and get them to listen to this song. It gets me every time.
This song's celebrating 30 years of existence and its messages are still relevant...Trust me when I say you listen to this song your first time and you'll either cry, think, or just be angry about how the world continues turning in violence and hatred while innocents suffer everywhere.
On Monday 16 March 2009, Chris Rea and Warner Music UK (Rhino UK) had kindly agreed to donate net profits from the sale of each digital single of this beautiful song re-release in memory of baby Peter. Baby P died of horrific injuries in 2007 aged just 17 months, after social services in Haringey, North London, allowed him to stay with his abusive mum, step dad and their lodger. All proceeds went to NSPCC the kids’ charity of which Chris, is patron and other charities that work to save children from the horrors that this baby suffered.
Unbelievable breathtaking and heartbreaking how cold and heartless this world is. That is something, I won't believe in my naivity. I am always ready to help everyone, every animal if I could. This reality messes me up.

Nobel Price for one of the most moving songs and texts of our history: God be with Chris rea and the people helping to make it published. For your information a Hungarian singer Zoran Stevanovits replayed and somehow reworded it, with the same moving text, though not to a little girl but to his father, as far as i can remember. Best regards, Paul, 65, Slovakia
This came on my ipod when I was walking my dog yesterday. I had tears streaming down my face. Such a beautiful sad song. When my daughter was little, her granddad died, she kept asking where he was. I said he's in heaven, and she said "So there is a heaven?" I said yes, that it's a better place. I really hope it's true.
What an incredibly beautiful song of Chris's!! Haunting !! As the world looks today , wish some people listened to it !! Being a nurse I have seen more death and dying I thought was possible when I started my training. Rewarding , yes , but sometimes so very hard to cope ! Always my love to Chris, your music has kept me going so many times !! Love you dearly ❤❤
Such a profound song - it’s a family centric connection for us to connect to our families who have passed. (The real words and meaning are much darker ). Where Chris came from had some issues with abuse and this is explains the upside of those poor kids who suffered.
If you do not believe in heaven, that is an opinion of your own, and you are not to be judged by your own judgment. But for those who BELIEVE in a heaven. That means that you realize that there's more to left than just this and by understanding that, you shall understand the perfection god has created. What we can see and what we can't see are both a part of this beautiful blessing of a life all of us have created together. I respect Chris rea and the honesty of his music, I especially love this song so I feel I can tell the little girl myself that she needs not to worry, for god is within her and she was born connected to the afterlife. I BELIEVE.
There is no reason to believe in God and/or heaven beyond the mere hope that it is true. You might as well hope to win the lottery. The fact that one is taught from birth to believe in idea does not make it true.
We loose so many loved ones along the path of life. I know I have and one of the consolations for me is that someday I'll be with them all again. I know there's a place where all those people go cause I believe we all go through Hell here on earth at sometime, some way, shape or form. And Heaven awaits us all.
No hell friends just a beautiful earth with no wicked people around read psalms 37 verses 10 and eleven this is after God sorts this wicked earth society out soon. And on this earth restored our loved ones will be reserected here .
This is a beautiful song with beautiful orchestration but ultimately I think it's often misinterpreted. A little girl wants an explanation for the evil she sees people doing to others. She wants to be reassured that there's a heaven where the people who suffered are happy. In his effort to comfort her the narrator begins to question things and by the end of the song he's the one who needs to be reassured and comforted. Chris wrote this after his daughter asked questions about a South African riot she saw on the news.

Les années passent et j,ai toujours des frissons en écoutant cette sublime chanson et cette voie ....(le paradis ).....quel grand artiste...
I can never listen to this without crying. It is such a relevant song.
DITTO.
I have the same reaction...
Yet I can't understand why people find this a spiritual song.. It is part of the soundtrack of my shift to atheism , some years back
One of his most emotional songs, I believe he wrote this for one of his daughters.
Me too
Played this at my brothers funeral miss him so much
I've often thought that if I was a movie director and I was filming a scene in which the performers were required to cry real tears that I'd sit them down and get them to listen to this song. It gets me every time.
Fájó emlék férjem utolsó útjára!
!Csak sírni tudok!!!!!
❤❤
Like John Lennon, Chris Rea writes from the heart; he touches the soul of humanity. He's a rare commodity in this cold cynical world of ours.
Unbelievable breathtaking and heartbreaking how cold and heartless this world is. That is something, I won't believe in my naivity. I am always ready to help everyone, every animal if I could. This reality messes me up.
Thank You! Chris is really incredible and a saint
What a lovely thing to do you really are a genuine down to earth guy.💙
Incredible lyrics (words;) incredible music; incredible song by Chris Rhea, a man of spiritual depth and understanding. Well done, Chris!
There is no words I know that can justify the pain this song is about - An absolutely beautiful and stunning song - Mr Chris Rea this is wonderful
I Type This With Tears On My Cheeks, My Husband Passed Away In March And This Song Comforts Me Although It Makes Me Cry.xx

Kaum ein anderer Song zwingt dich mehr zu feuchten Augen.

When a man losses his faith...and will not lie to his kids when they ask the big question. Very hard.
This is the song he's dedicated to his 17 month old son that died a brutal death, while children's social services allowed the abusive mom, & step-dad to have baby P for a visit.
I'm an American, & my heart breaks for ALL children who are abused. Absolutely should NEVER happen. 💔 💔 💔

Best regards,
Paul, 65, Slovakia
Это прекрасно, душевно. Любимый музыкант и певец Крис Ри 👍💖💖💖
pisen pre všetkých dobrých ludi tejto planety
This came on my ipod when I was walking my dog yesterday. I had tears streaming down my face. Such a beautiful sad song. When my daughter was little, her granddad died, she kept asking where he was. I said he's in heaven, and she said "So there is a heaven?" I said yes, that it's a better place. I really hope it's true.
This track has the power to knock you flat on the floor it's that sad. Should have been released, would have been a big hit i think.
So powerful it leaves you speechless ... I play it in those dreadful moments when U need to hide and cry alone ...
Aaaaaw don’t be too sad and whenever you cry I hope you have someone to give you a hug! Be well and life will get better for all of us!
...🎼🎶🌹...❤️💝 sublime ✨🌟 cette chanson m’a beaucoup touché 🙏🏼 merci 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌹

Csilla Kovacs I just saw your reply I m very sorry for the tragic loss you and your family have gone through
Csilla Kovacs wunderbar
Es ist ein wundervoller Song 🎶🌸🍀
Predivno ,hvala !
Such a profound song - it’s a family centric connection for us to connect to our families who have passed. (The real words and meaning are much darker ). Where Chris came from had some issues with abuse and this is explains the upside of those poor kids who suffered.
Drowning in a sea of painful memories 💔
Extraordinarily beautiful
this man is a poet
If you do not believe in heaven, that is an opinion of your own, and you are not to be judged by your own judgment. But for those who BELIEVE in a heaven. That means that you realize that there's more to left than just this and by understanding that, you shall understand the perfection god has created. What we can see and what we can't see are both a part of this beautiful blessing of a life all of us have created together. I respect Chris rea and the honesty of his music, I especially love this song so I feel I can tell the little girl myself that she needs not to worry, for god is within her and she was born connected to the afterlife. I BELIEVE.
Beautiful words from a beautiful person x
N/A N/A Sounds like whishful thinking to me.
There is no reason to believe in God and/or heaven beyond the mere hope that it is true. You might as well hope to win the lottery. The fact that one is taught from birth to believe in idea does not make it true.
No reason to be here, we are alone and make ourselves human if we can ...
All Chris Rea music, videos is wonderful (absolutely Art ) ,immortal music .Thank you so much !!
In memory of my much loved little sister who flew to Heaven two weeks today. God has gained a beautiful angel. Fly high little sis 😢❤❤❤❤

This song is so beautiful and touches me deeply.
Much appreciation and love...
Thank you Aurelia!
Thank you!
It's this song he's dedicated to his 17 month old son that died a brutal death, while children's social services allowed the abusive mom, & step-dad to have baby P for a visit.

@@mddell58 no the explanation above is correct. Though Chris did agree to donate the proceeds of the re-release for Baby P.
@@mddell58 No,its to his daughter. He only has two daughters, Josephine (born 1983), and Julia Christina (born 1989).
There is a home we all belong and it is not here on this earth .
Thank jou-Wunderbar-Ihr seid toll-Beseelt-this song is formidable-Hanna Maria Grüße ganz viele
This song made me shed tears so many years ago... Its effect is now even greater in my adult life, knowing what horrible things happen to people, it is even more poignant than ever.
