No one delivers a song like Judy. No one. Just so heartfelt, sincere, touching. Made me cry. Beautiful, beautiful, phrasing.

Great to see this again.I was 8 years old and in the audience that day with my mom.My aunt Dottie was The Liason between Mike and Westinghouse and Group W.
so I was fortunate enough to have see over 600 of Mikes shows. This day.I can remember because I kept asking my aunt Dottie what the delay was and she said to my mom and I that they had technical problems. When Judy finally came out the crowd and my mom and I were stunned as a few nights before we had seen The Wizard Of Oz on CBS.When she sang Over The Rainbow it just knocked everyone out. After the show my aunt took us back to meet Judy and my mom and I got a few pictures with her.The big thing is that Peter Lawford took the pictures for us.I can still remember Just saying to my mom who's this handsome little boy and I blushed. You asked about the master, my aunt did get us a full copy of the show but the rumor was that Marsha Rose who was a reporter there and a huge Garland can had taken the master, because many of Mines show videos were used over and Marsha did not want that to happen to this show.

Gosh, you so fortunate! I was 3 in '68. I wish I had been old enough to have enjoyed her.

My Mom watched The Mike Douglas Show every single week-day! I'm a huge Judy fan & just love how he handles her w/ such tenderness here.....He (Mike) was a big fan of hers, as well...You can tell by how Mike's eyes twinkle when he even looks at her.
    Thanks for posting this!

Amazing footage, the magic still intact in spite of everything. And check out the commercial at 09.50 - straight out of Mad Men - a poignant reminder of the cultural context in which Judy and her female contemporaries were living and working.

I was devastated when she died. I was only 10, and I didn't understand how someone who'd just been on TV could already be gone.

Thanks for posting your video for us, Jean. You could hear her voice is slightly slurring, her smile doesn't reach her eyes. yet she could still put her heart into her music. I wish she had still had hope by then. so sad and tragic her life really was. Love you always, Judy somewhere over the rainbow.

So sad to see her there as her health was on Its way out. In the early 60s she was still a powerhouse. Poor Judy, a victim of the studios since childhood: USED!
Uppers and alcohol do this. Sad. She was a victim. Read up on her people. She was one of the top greats of all time!

Don Diego Vega I have read 4 books on her life...she was taken advantage of by her 2 guy lawyers, her husbands, and her mother. Why didn't they pay her house taxes for her...

Actually she was in better voice here, then she had been around 1966 or so - part of her interesting mystique is that you never knew in what shape her voice would be but here it sounds very full.

you can tell by her whole demeanour she was living completely without hope at this point - everything including her voice was in tatters and she was still unable to stop the drugs
She was a genius and she deserved a lot better to put it mildly - from a child every significant person in her life let her down and by the end she was just broken by it all

    • @andrewdancy2849
      @andrewdancy2849 7 років тому +8

grai Completely without hope? Even if that were true, which I seriously doubt, at the end of the day she had two things that gave her eternal hope , her child...and the audience!

she couldn't get work at this point and she wasn't talking to Liza when she died and the other kids *chose* to be with their father Such a waste

I could not agree with you, more! I could see it happening from 67 on. She was living on borrowed time by then. I can't watch her, it just breaks my heart, There will never be another, like her!

Its sad seeing her sing at the end. Not that Garland was bad, but how broken she seems. This was the beginning of the end.

Hi, wonderful video. I actually stumbled on this looking for another episode of the Mike Davis Show. Did you happen to have any information on how to track down an episode after one has exhausted google, UA-cam, and social media? The company that held the archival footage appears to have closed 17 years ago.

Wow Peter Lawford guested on Judy’s show only 4 years earlier. She was so vibrant and youthful looking then, in 4 short years she really aged and seems much more tired here and her voice is huskier. Amazing how quickly her health deteriorated in the late 60s. She started the 60s so triumphantly with Carnegie Hall, was fantastic in her variety show, but it seems like after her show was cancelled she really went down fast. By the end of the 60s she’d be gone. Peter Lawford looks much older as well than when he was on her show. The smoking and drinking back then really aged people. Sad that the next year Judy would be dead. I’d really like to know what her life was like off these talk shows then. I can see her being very sad and down.
