Lovely images Henry, especially the final one. In terms of tips I would say, adapt your approach to the conditions, and use it as an opportunity to maybe experiment and try something different and learn from the experience
I think I might have been experimenting with long exposures on the sky and loch waters to make some ethereal B&W shots - I'm off up to the highlands next week and will be at the mercy of the weather so I may be eating my own words !!!!
My grandfather was the Gillie on Loch Maree for years. He grew up in the area and caught the lochs largest salmon, which is in a case in the Loch Maree Hotel. 21 miles long with 21 islands. Great video. 👍
There’s no such thing as bad weather only bad clothes. This is the UK with all its unpredictable weather and that’s what makes photography amazing. As long as you and your gear is waterproof, get out there. The pub feels amazing in the evening when your dried out. Cheers, great stuff Henry and Ian.
My partner and I had 3 weeks in Wales and Northern England last autumn and it rained most of the time. My favourite days were some of the wettest...moody times in the Ogwen Valley, and some amazing light just as we reached the top of Malham Cove. Provided I've got the right clothes, I tend to enjoy wet days out the most...makes you feel more alive and part of nature! Less people around too 😄 Love both your images of the little island!
Great pics Henry...yes as you said to just get out regardless of the conditions, you can always find some compositions... thanks for sharing.. cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊
I have never regretted getting up and going even when the weather didn't cooperate at all. However, I always regret those moments when I choose to stay in bed. Thanks for sharing your time with us Henry!
Always good to go out with a friend like you do.. I think it’s about enthusiasm rubbing off on each other, swapping ideas etc - and yes mountain weather 4 seasons in one day 😊👍
Heading up to Assynt, Sutherland and Orkney in 2 weeks' time. Hope you had all the 'bad' weather and they saving the good light for us. You still made some lovely images. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, I remember the Red Beast, the island image and the Peugeot you camped in before the Blue Jay. Another grand day out. Apologies to Wallace and Gromit, two of my other favorite Brits.
Henry, I just purchased your book on Scotland as I’m heading over to the UK in September and these latest videos in Scotland have me so excited for all the place I can go to photography. Love your passion and emotion in your videos. Another great one with some stunning images 😀
Another excellent video Henry..wow how the conditions changed...I loved the first shot and the tree bark. Hopefully you will get pure good weather one of these weeks. Best wishes.
Loved the comment about being in a location was like visiting an old friend. I get this every time I go to Ardvrek Castle. Your videos are brilliant, as much for the locations and banter as the photography.
Henry you superstar. I had packed my Leica 12-60 away and was using the 14-140, but after your last couple of videos I have started using it again. I must be honest I had forgotten what a cracking lens it is. I am in Scotland at the moment, the weather isn’t great but I am going to channel my inner “Henry” and get on out there.
In your eMail you said : Ireland ... and a new car. Ohh noooo .... no more Blue Jay ? Luckily it's just in the garage :-) ... pfffuuuiii ... you scared me there ! Loved the pictures by the way. Kind regards, Guy.
I remember the red beast. Love the island photo. I have a similar option with an island that i have been wanting to get. But I need to get out there to get it. :) In it to WIn it!
I'm fairly new to your channel Henry, but you're right it's about mindset. As an astrophotographer, clouds are more challenging, but sometimes you go anyway and it clears, other times not, but as you say, you have to be in it to win it
I know the red beast! I purchased the Scots Pine photo 5/15. Absolutely love that one. Always been in my living room where I can see it and imagine the spot and day you took it. I love Scotland and hope to do a photo run one day, maybe to that spot even. Great video Henry! Thanks for this one. Cheers mate!
Hi Henry! How's things mate? You mentioned being out and about, and that's my philosophy! There's a song by Paulo Nuttini and in that song there's a line that says "I'm out and about, so I'm in with a shout! And nothing's gonna bring me down!" I always try to remember that whenever I'm able to get 'out and about' especially with my camera! By the way, I don't know if I mentioned it, but I've got a new one! 😁😁I've managed to get hold of a 'nearly new' Nikon z5! Loving it so far! The first full frame camera I've ever owned! 😊😊
I was just thinking that the last shot should be a B&W and then up it came! The range of tones in the clouds and down to the Slioch hills in the background is just made for it.
I was planning my first trip out solo since my surgery earlier in the year tomorrow but the weather forecast wasn't looking great but this video seems to be a sign so I'm gonna just head out anyway thanks for the inspiration as always
Enjoyed the video as usual Henry. I must admit if it's chucking it down with rain no photography, but beer o'clock time. We are going to Loch Maree this year and i have earmarked a few locations there. Great image's as usual. Look forward to the next one.
I think the biggest thing I like to try and do is to take pictures of the little things. During a rain storm, look for drops on a branch. Look for that one cloud that is so unique, look for that one thing that draws your attention. Just cause it is nasty out does not mean there are not things others may find interesting. Enjoy shooting those shots.
Living in New England, we fully understand the weather is usually off about 50% of the time. Kind of looked a bit like fall over here in that area. Nice loch.
Certainly agree with you about revisiting old photos. I was looking at some from 8 or 9 years ago yesterday, and it brought back great memories, and I found some that as I'm more proficient with my edits are actual quite decent shots.
Totally agree with you henry about getting out despite what the weather is, when I am up in the Highlands or where ever, with my wife we always hire a cottage for a week, as we come from Northumberland, it is a long way to go to waste your time sitting around because of some bad weather, I am there to make the most of my time photographing the stunning highland region, and I am always going back to favourite places, because as you know the conditions are never same
Hi Henry, another grand day out thanks for sharing ... ah the old days ... Red Beast, D7200, Tokina lens, DX 18-300 lens ... and the infamous puddle. As for tips, take a 10p showercap if your camera isn't exactly weatherproof. Sure it'll not save your gear if the heavens truly open, but it'll sure help ... and another tip ( not for the purists ) use a UV filter ( but not a cheap one ) on the front of the lens, so that if the weather tries to get in it has to try harder, not to mention if you wipe the filter and accidentally scratch it, filters are much cheaper than lenses.
I normally like your shots Henry but struggled to get there with this video - which actually is exactly where a lot of us are in the main and obviously the conditions were rubbish - so hats off to you and Ian (who i also follow) for getting out there and showing us that even the best photographers have days when the images don't quite work.

Great video … again! You’re right, this famous company slogan sums-up it well: “Just do it."
🇨🇦/🇺🇸... Hey there, Henry! You, having lived in Canada for a short while, are probably aware of this. In North America the concept of perfect sky conditions for photography includes BLUE SKY and BILLOWY WHITE CLOUDS! ;-) Anything else and we're just a bunch of Gloomy Guses!!! LOL Cheers, Bro!
Henry, my experience has been mixed. I've forced myself to go out in horrible weather and returned with one or more crackin' good keepers. I've also ventured out in perfect weather with high anticipation and came home with disappointing results. Lesson learned? Just go out, period, whatever the conditions, as long as it's safe. It's refreshing for the body, mind, and soul to be out enjoying nature or even exploring one's hometown. Something else you mentioned got me thinking - revisiting photos from the past. I was just doing that the other day. I found myself remembering and reminiscing, even experiencing the details and emotions of those moments and the people who were with me. Carry some hand warmers, nothing like frozen hands to deal with :)

Wear the right clothing, nothing worse than being wet and cold 😉
Today is no longer Thursday,it's Henry Turner day
No, it’s not Thursday either! Friday here in Oz!
The last image is very beautiful, indeed! 👍
I just love that Scots Pine island, it's so beautiful! And yes, of course I remember the Red Beast! 😁
Love the tree bark and the mountain through the tree branches.

Awesome video mate, I'm so glad we went out. I thought the light was really nice for the island shot, what a spot 👍

Great video and point. Couple of years ago visited the lakes .The photographs I liked most were the ones I took in worst weather conditions.
Brilliant mate. Great images.
😂 I remember the red beast.

What a cracking idea to do a bad weather video, inspiring as always

I had a shocker in pelting down rain yesterday, but I got out. My waterfall shoot turned into a pelican shoot but at least I got something
Don't give up!

It's a great location. Loved your shot at the end. 👍
Aah thanks mate :)
great video. rubbish conditions but all came well in the end.
I try to push myself to go out and shoot when the weather is bad. Thanks for the inspiration.
haha, Henry. With that sheep beanie on, you can get top drawer images in any weather!
Love what you’re producing with the OM-5
Cheers Eric, I'm really happy with it all too considering it's been quite a big 'style' change since using the Z7!!
Excellent vid every time Henry.
I appreciate that Darren, thanks for watching mate :)
If we had the scenes on the Isle of Wight like you do up there, I'd be more than going out in all weather....Sadly, we don't
So, when did you stop using Nikon? I just realized that… Love that last shot!!

Tell Ian that the first setup tip given for Fuji cameras is to switch off timer beeps... Lol!!!
Nice 👍
What is the bag that you have around your waist in front ..... ? I checked out your gear list and didn't find it.
Never mind - I found it
Kudos for pronouncing Loch correctly.
Your orange jacket makes the weather look not so grim.
I remember "The Red Beast".
Nature is perfectly imperfect, if you only go out when conditions are what we are taught to be perfect, you will miss so much more :)
