The coffins match them because the actors were asked to describe what kind of coffin they thought would fit the characters, and the set dressers picked them based on that! The set designers and dressers put a lot of effort in, all the art in the background has symbolic meaning to whatever's happening in the plot.
Jacob actually didnt do that, he said they can just choose one while Sam took time to think, so his was comfortable but Jacobs not so much bc he didnt do any research and let the teams pick. Sam act got locked in his for hours bc they forget he was even in his but he didnt care and fell asleep thats how nice his was lol
one of the least touched-upon elements of the show (that i love) is the community estrangement louis has to grapple with when he becomes lestat's life partner. grace and levi's resentment isn't just about louis no longer coming home. to his family, he abandoned them for a rich white man, which was a common survival tactic for a lot of creole people at that time. he clings to claudia because lestat can't understand the various levels of racism louis suffers, but claudia can. to his family, he's a race traitor. you do such a great job digging into the nuance that i wanted to add that lil bit of black culture coding.
It's also in some parts homophobia. Almost definitely. He's failing his family duty of carrying on the family name/bloodline, refusing to marry, living with another man. (Grace carries on the bloodline, but not the family name.) Grace was seemingly more accepting, in the beginning, but after Louis' outbursts like leaving her baby on the floor and kicking in the front doors she starts closing off to it more and more like their mother and brother did before her too. Plus, even if they don't know-know for absolutely sure, they know pretty darn well he's been changed into something completely different than he was before and they don't understand it but it's hella frightening. It's all the things, wrapped in one.
Grace saying “you don’t need it” is in reference to the house because he’s holed up with his “white daddy” as she puts it. He reminds her of the door because she says that to insult him/imply Lestat holds authority over Louis. Uncalled for, but his feelings are hurt which prompts that response. As we know these vamps are not in control of their emotions unfortch lol
✨ Claudia ✨ I think one of the things it's important to try to keep in mind is that Claudia is Louis' child, but she's also /absolutely/ Lestat's daughter, for better or worse.
Now you've met Claudia, one of if not the most important character in Interview with the Vampire. She is a fan favorite for sure. They've aged her up for the series (and the movie as well), as in the books she is only five years old when turned.
I watched an old Interview with Anne's real life son Christopher ,he was talking about when he first went to school (he was born after Anne started to get her fame .....Chris said his teachers were talking about Anne writing about Michelle's connection to Claudia and the teacher said ,it was written in remembrance of your sister and he said" I dont have a sister,"he ran home to tell Anne the teachers told him he had a sister...Anne and Stan were so distraught over those years ,Anne had kept herself from talking about Michelle obviously because she had little way of healing and she said she drank to excess ...so she did finally let Christopher know about his lost older sister , Anne lived thru her own chaos.....Anne always said she was the Louis character and Stan was the Lestat ....but I think Anne was both of her characters and she just flipped back and forth to survive ....she wrote them "too" well for one to be 2nd hand ...they seemed "first person" to me always
"With all a child's demanding" is such a brilliant way to phrase the concept -- the lack of restraint borne of self reflection which comes with youth and inexperience.
It's interesting how so many people agonize over Lestat and Louis killing people (the moral dilemma of it all) but nobody seems phased by Claudia's complete lack of concern for human life. Me included! I'm guilty of this myself! I know people give her huge latitude because she is 14 (again, me included) but really a normal 14 year old should have an ethical dilemma when it comes to bloody murder. She doesn't care AT ALL. She cares when she personally likes someone, but seems to have zero empathy otherwise.
i think it's so weird how they characterized her like a little girl. like, when you're 14 you're not that childish anymore and you have your own notions and hang-ups and claudia is almost like this charicature character. i think her character could have been done so much better :/
You're right! So it's weird that a lot of people overlook or don't seem to connect how demonic homicidal psychotic she is and the fact she literally poisoned and manipulated Louis against Lestat. She literally plotted to kill Lestat and convinced Louis to support her even though he loved Lestat and it literally destroyed him mentally but she doesn't care. She's so manipulative, self centered, absolutely vindictive psycho serial massacrer but everyone seems okay with it!
@@l.josinokids her age are... Interesting. Teenagers are caught between childhood and adulthood, they may act like a child or what they think adults act like or even a combination of the two I have a niece and nephew, both Claudia's age and they both act very different. One acts like a child and the other one thinks they're grown but still have very childish tendencies. Claudia's behaviour didn't make sense to me at first when I compared her to how I acted at 14 but my mind changed when I took a closer look at my niece and nephew.
I didn't even realize that Claudia's killing might be a problem because I genuinely don't care that vampires kill humans because humans kill animals for food. Sure vampires can live on animals and humans can live on plants/plant based food. I just see humans from their view the way we see the animals we eat.
@@AshleySamM rather than just how she acts, i can't buy her levels of cognition and awareness taking into consideration the environment and experiences she lived through. i'm not saying she should have acted more like an adult, i'm saying her inner self felt very flat and non-believable because it's like there was an extremely narrow scope to it. comparing to the character writing of louis, the difference is like night and day to me. he is EXTREMELY complex and well-done and believable. she is like this plot device from a cartoon character world. like don't get me wrong, sometimes claudia was very enjoyable to watch and i wish i liked her character even more than i do, but i can't lie to myself and say that she gets the same level of character writing and care that louis does. and she should have a level that's comparable because i firmly believe she is supposed to be the most important character next to him. and yet....
Claudia is an avatar in the story for Anne Rice’s own daughter, Michelle, who died of childhood leukemia at age five. Also, in the book, Claudia is only five when Lestat turns her. I love that Movie Man knows NOTHING about this very popular story, so, please, nobody spoil it for him!
I love Claudia and how she was the 'baby to fix the marriage'. It makes sense to age her up for the TV series too... I mean, besides the obvious uncomfortable idea of a woman's mind in a child body... because it also means her diaries could be written right from the day she was turned with a lot of detail and clarity. And as far as harming self... I used to do that and in a way it IS for attention, but in the 'there's something very wrong here and I need help' way. I used to do it as a way of concentrating all the pain I felt into one spot and I'm very glad I'm long past that, but it was also def a cry for attention and help. It didn't work. The best way to get help and deal with the pain is to get help.
I love how you picked up on Claudias accent, i feel like paying attention to the accents, especially louis is really interesting throughout the series, its great, subtle, acting
Yes! The diaries aren’t verbatim completely from the books, but they are based on bites and some lines are lifted exactly from Anne’s words. Claudia is the BEST I love her character so much. Great reaction!
When Grace said he didn't need it, she was talking about the house. When Louis feelings get hurt, he gets defensive. Louis is me, me is Louis. All of what he is struggling with is things that I used to struggle with, but the older I've gotten, I've let go of
I love this show, it’s funny, beautiful to watch, macabre, and it even has interesting philosophical discussions to boot. Thank you for your analysis, it is fantastic as always!
Lestat & Louis's dynamic is so funny! "I don't know about that skirt", "Why does she talk to the book?" lol First turned Claudia is a riot! "Oh oh, they're talking French" You can't deny it, Lestat has plenty of panache. So hysterical when Claudia blocks Louis lmao yup, she's got secrets.
I was wondering why did they put that final scene of selfharm since i first watched the episode. And I finally understood. She was putting her hand into light at the begining of an episode. But only briefly. For a second. Now she is enduring much more. It there to show how much stronger she became in a sense of willpower.
I think also to show how much bolder and less restrained she's becoming and how recklessly little she cares about consequences. Like, one could see her in the beginning pulling back real quick as her chickening out, and her at the end now there's no psychological roadblocks holding her back from doing it anymore, she's not afraid of the pain nor of potentially alarming Louis/Lestat and/or maybe getting in trouble and scolded by them for it.
32:05 - I do believe the spectacles are a deliberate nod to the Dracula movie with Gary Oldman and Keanu Reeves. I think Oldman's Dracula also wore different colored ones for different scenes. Color is often used similarly to how lighting and music is used, to set a particular ambiance or mood/tone/etcetera, it's like a subtle communication with the audience-like things being well lit during happy scenes but dark or rainy during gloomy/sad scenes, and so on. But, also, yes: most likely function to serve different occasions aesthetically speaking as well. Lol They function, practically-speaking, to conceal his vampire eyes from attracting the attention/suspicion of anyone who knew him when he was still human; but are very likely coordinated to match his outfits/moods. The level of detail put into everything shown on screen in this tv series is absolutely incredible, I love it.!! ^-^
37:15 important but small note of importance here. Remember how Louis depicts Lestat as violent and messy with his kills when he’s the one narrating? Well now we have a change of perspective (Claudia) notice how she doesn’t describe Lestat that way. In this scene it’s shown clearly that Lestat was very (delicate?) and classy with his kill, not messy. It’s a small detail but in my opinion a big one that adds to the whole question of what the real story is, whats opinion and what is fact? Is Lestat really a lot less violent than what Louis leads us to believe? During my first watch of season 1 that was definitely my opinion when I picked up on this.
33:00 also Louis quite literally couldn’t go to these family events, he can’t go out during the day. I’m sure if he could’ve he would’ve seen them more often, which just makes the resulting distance between them hurt more.
The addition of Claudia makes for a fun change-up in family dynamics, doesn't it, and gives us another interesting perspective on life with Lestat is like! I'm so fond of the happier moments they shared, especially the scene where they're dancing in the garden, but I also get a kick out of the reminders that we are witnessing monsters trying to play house! Great reaction, as always!
I LOVE your reactions, it’s hard to find people who show themselves watching basically the entire episode (without having to pay) so this is amazing!!! AND you actually talk and analyze, I’m literally so excited for you to finish this season and I hope you watch the second one!! 😋
Really love your reactions! I love the happy parts of this episode, Claudia is so great :) 'It's chiffon it has movement' is one of my fave quotes haha
She also had a little less of a personality and a little more of just raw self-serving/predatory instinct. If I remember it right. I really appreciate the way she seems a bit more 3-dimensional and well-rounded and on par to the rest of them, to me, in the tv series.😊💖💖😁
i loove that you have no previous knowledge of these characters, i wiiiish i could experience claudia for the first time lol you could watch the 1994 movie after you finish season 2 (AFTER, or you're gonna get spoiled BAD), only to see how claudia is handled in that movie. she's played by kirsten dunst and she killsss it
i see your reactions and i go 'OHHH HE IS GONNA LOVE SEASON 2' because i bet you're gonna love season two!!!! also hold on to your butt because episode 5 (next episode) is REALLY INTENSE.
I was really glad to see the notification that you uploaded a new video because watching your episode breakdowns has been a lot of fun! I relate to my beloved Louis and Claudia so much. Btw I genuinely admire how you analyze media content; it inspires me to pay more attention to my own analyses. Honestly, your channel would have been incredibly useful when I was in college.
42:20 to me, the whole point of poor things is that it is the story of a girls sexuality that is initially coopted by the men in her life (including her father who seeks to marry her off) and its her journey to reclaim that part of her self. to look at that story and reduce it to shes too young, this story is problematic is to ignore that the story reflects situations that happen irl every day. this friends thought process is too black and white for the conversation the movie wants to have
25:38 Remember they have smart window glass on their penthouse so Louie is able to filter the uv rays out, they used it in episode 1 when Louie showed Daniel he could burn in the sun. If Rashed was a vampire, he wouldnt need to be sitting in the shade while in the penthouse due to those fancy windows :3
Just found your channel and subscribed! I just finished season 2 and I'm now binge-watching reaction videos to this show. I really think it's one of the best/interesting shows I've ever seen.
Aww, i didn't know the Queer Eye guy passed😢He was so sweet. Loved the reaction to this ep! Claudia's presence really changes the dynamic of the whole show ❤
Amazing watch your reaction to the most delicious parts of the show. I literally can’t wait for each of your episodes 🎉 Your insight and analysis is remarkable.🙌 I love Claudia so much, what a fascinating character I think she puts her arm in the sunlight( at the end )to cause physical pain to mask her emotional pain 😔
It's okay to see Louis as a dedicated submissive or a wife and mother, since these are roles he embraces and wants in this season. Also, love the "coffin sex" signal between Louis & Lestat @20:52
I think... (when I was little I didn't get it but now I think I do) his family even thought they told him to not get close that night, maybe they expect him to not just apologize but change and leave Lestat and come to them (we know that can't be) that is why they are bitter, he didn't "try" so he must not care enough, it may seen hypocritical but makes sense doesn't it?
45:29 definitely. Lestat was 100% harsh here but if she’s gonna live as a vampire she needs to learn how dark stuff can get if you’re not careful. I really do think Lestat did this in an act of care and responsibility, he didn’t do it to be cruel. I’m happy you didn’t demonise him for this, a lot of people look past how serious the situation is and just call him sick.
if we do the iwtv, claudia is played by 11 year old kirsten dunst and she is amazing in the role. she was even nominated for a golden globe for the role
what happened with Charlie was directly louis and lestat's fault actually. They coddled Claudia like she was a baby for so long, and they were qo happy to be in their family bubble that they refused to tell her that no she would never grow old and she couldnt get close to humans because theyre fragile
also all of that we saw for mostr of the ep are from diaries mostlyof a child so thats also a part of the narration,, what is over exaggerated and that is casually glossed over
You have been slight misled i think, season two concludes the "interview with the vampire" story, season three technically begins "the vampire lestat" ehich, as you can imagine, features lestats pov and much of his life story
I cant wait for you to get more of the story as the season goes on im so excited to see ur reactions to certain truths revealed in season two hehe also lestat's backstory is getting adapted in season 3!

Yea you sleeping on the fact they were high note homophobic and trying to guilt him out of a house they can’t afford taboot. You got to admire the gumption. I know my neurodivergent short circuits and that was a doozy.
Just remember that the first time you get to see "The Real Lestat"(that is not a memory) is at the end of season 2. Season 1 Rashid is... oh that's a lot better considering the things he has said.
33:40 Remember the night when Louis kicked the door in? He told his mom he owns the house and doesn't need permission or an invitation. Maybe, that is where Grace mustered the reference to say "you don't need it." Also 😂, I know this will be "conflicting" to me having actually asked that question previously but. .. why do you feel you must read the comments? I don't know about everyone else, but you reading or engaging in post commentary is unrequired for my enjoyment of your reactions. If you feel so strongly about not wanting to be spoiled by hints or out right spoilers, what is it that you feel even more strongly about in which compels your to look at the comments that potentially may be inconsiderate or nasty people involuntarily or intentionally divulging future episode information 😭?! When I miss a day of a show I enjoy, hell even an hour, I don't log on to any social commentary platform, or even the internet for the most part, until I have watched that series' episode or movie. Because, yes, the algorithms are at work. Of course whatever my interests are, which is a particular show, will be the first thing I'm likely to see. Why not wait until you've completed season two or caught up with all aired episodes before engaging with the comments? Trust me, for myself I would prefer if you have no spoiled comments in which you are pondering. I love watching your, presumably, unmarred reactions. It's preferable 😊 .

It would be rough to be part of a 3 person family dynamic where two people can communicate freely mind-to-mind and one person is blocked out.
When Grace said you don’t need it she was referring to the house not the invite.
But wait, she says that right after he mentions the invitation? I admit, the wording makes it confusing

Not you and Daniel Molloy taking the same notes. 😆😆
"And I want that shirt" same dude, same.
I was expecting this on sunday !!! Pleasantly surprised
Claudia's here 🎉
NON-SPOILER COMMENT: The diaries don't show up in Book 1, but she DOES keep a diary as shown in book 3. So the diaries are canon within the universe.
loved the dexters laboratory reference
edit: AND a Nicholson joker reference?? your reference game is so good today
42:20 to me, the whole point of poor things is that it is the story of a girls sexuality that is initially coopted by the men in her life (including her father who seeks to marry her off) and its her journey to reclaim that part of her self. to look at that story and reduce it to shes too young, this story is problematic is to ignore that the story reflects situations that happen irl every day.
this friends thought process is too black and white for the conversation the movie wants to have
I know we’re only on season 1 but LOOORD I am so excited for you to see season 2.
Thank you as always for your amazing reaction :)
Hey MovieMan, AVOID THE COMMENTS FOR THIS EPISODE. PEOPLE ARE GIVING AWAY HUGE SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE SERIES!! And they're not giving 'Alerts'.
I’m new to your channel but I like your thorough and thoughtful take on this show.. it’s a good show ❤
Just found your channel and subscribed! I just finished season 2 and I'm now binge-watching reaction videos to this show. I really think it's one of the best/interesting shows I've ever seen.
Thanks for joining the journey, glad you're having a good time
Had to comment before I even watch to say I couldn't WAIT for you to react to this episode, so excited to see what you think of Claudia!
I love this episode! Claudia’s perspective brings such a different element into this already fraught relationship!
Lestats ability to control people has nothing to do with their IQ or mental fortitude. It's not like the 'force'. 😂
*bursts into the room* YES
your reactions are my fav !! You're funny, perceptive, and you don't cut out all the best parts. Thanks for making these!!
Aww, i didn't know the Queer Eye guy passed😢He was so sweet. Loved the reaction to this ep! Claudia's presence really changes the dynamic of the whole show ❤
Wait, who?
@@MrMgage13 He mentions it in his react-the first contestant ever of the Queer Eye show.
Love your super long videos so please don't feel the need to cut them down 😊
Amazing watch your reaction to the most delicious parts of the show. I literally can’t wait for each of your episodes 🎉
Your insight and analysis is remarkable.🙌
I love Claudia so much, what a fascinating character
I think she puts her arm in the sunlight( at the end )to cause physical pain to mask her emotional pain 😔
The best Character ever, welcome CLAUDIA. LOVE CLAUDIA 😍🤩
i love that we are getting two reactions in one package :D
i think that’s actually a magnolia tree! keep an eye out for magnolia going forward 😉
26:36 very demure, very mindful
Hope you had a great vacation! I'm so glad to see another episode breakdown ☺
It's okay to see Louis as a dedicated submissive or a wife and mother, since these are roles he embraces and wants in this season. Also, love the "coffin sex" signal between Louis & Lestat @20:52
yes!! finally claudia is here! she's a fan favorite for sure, so glad you're enjoying their strange family dynamic 😆❤
I think... (when I was little I didn't get it but now I think I do) his family even thought they told him to not get close that night, maybe they expect him to not just apologize but change and leave Lestat and come to them (we know that can't be) that is why they are bitter, he didn't "try" so he must not care enough, it may seen hypocritical but makes sense doesn't it?
oh god Im so glad you were on Vacay. I just started watching your channel and love your Severance series and got so scared lmao
Hey MovieMan, do you have a moderator for comments? I volunteer to help if so. This fandom notoriously spoils without realizing it.
It's a magnolia tree
if we do the iwtv, claudia is played by 11 year old kirsten dunst and she is amazing in the role. she was even nominated for a golden globe for the role
what happened with Charlie was directly louis and lestat's fault actually. They coddled Claudia like she was a baby for so long, and they were qo happy to be in their family bubble that they refused to tell her that no she would never grow old and she couldnt get close to humans because theyre fragile
Love the reaction as always!
Totes loving your IWTV reactions! Sooo good! ❤
Much of the dialog is directly from the books, the language is florid.
That's not cherry blossom. That's another tree. Magnolia.
It is significant in Ann Rices books.
And it will play a part in season 2.
also all of that we saw for mostr of the ep are from diaries mostlyof a child so thats also a part of the narration,, what is over exaggerated and that is casually glossed over
I look so forward to your reactions to this show. Next time I will get some alcohol and enjoy with you. MM101
Love your reactions! I always look foward to your iwtv videos 💓
god bless louis and his terrible lying skills
CLAUDIA!!!
Great reaction thanks!! 😄
Best s01 episode, thanks for the content ^^
5:14 That's a magnolia tree. It's a relevant detail in the story.
Once again you didn't miss much. Next episode is gonna mess you up though
Love your reactions! Whats your fav thing so far? When can we expect ep 5?
oh my CLAUDIAAA
You have been slight misled i think, season two concludes the "interview with the vampire" story, season three technically begins "the vampire lestat" ehich, as you can imagine, features lestats pov and much of his life story
Like someone said, Louis is the wife, but Lestat is the mother
More Severance pls
I cant wait for you to get more of the story as the season goes on im so excited to see ur reactions to certain truths revealed in season two hehe also lestat's backstory is getting adapted in season 3!
❤
AHH YAY FINALLY
About the coffins: While they were asked to pick their own, Jacob actually didnt do that, he said they can just choose one while Sam took time to think, so his was comfortable but Jacobs not so much bc he didnt do any research and let the teams pick. Sam act got locked in his for hours bc they forget he was even in his but he didnt care and fell asleep thats how nice his was lol bare in mind he got locked and forgot during an emergency
Yea you sleeping on the fact they were high note homophobic and trying to guilt him out of a house they can’t afford taboot. You got to admire the gumption. I know my neurodivergent short circuits and that was a doozy.
I think I’m the only person who doesn’t like Claudia 😅
Just remember that the first time you get to see "The Real Lestat"(that is not a memory) is at the end of season 2. Season 1 Rashid is... oh that's a lot better considering the things he has said.
That's a HUGE SPOILER
That's a spoiler
He can’t “remember” that because he doesn’t know it yet. Spoiler warning!!
Man just delete... This is just not nice when he makes it explicitly clear he want no spoilers in this very video?!
Stop with the subjective hints and straight out SPOILERS😮💨Let him naturally experience the show as it's happening.
33:40
Remember the night when Louis kicked the door in? He told his mom he owns the house and doesn't need permission or an invitation. Maybe, that is where Grace mustered the reference to say "you don't need it."
Also 😂, I know this will be "conflicting" to me having actually asked that question previously but. .. why do you feel you must read the comments?
