It is absurd to see even super expensive builds that don't even have the most basic fire extinguisher, let alone a fire suppression system. Great as always
Big weight savings guy here. Car weighs 2150 race weight, turbo car on m1. Got 3 gallons of cold fire suppression onboard. Also upgraded my suit to sfi 20. I started to take fire safety seriously after watching some videos lyle barnett made. Every racer should watch his videos it will really make you think twice.
Damn, always have your head sock and have your visor down! Ate that SFI 5 stuff up too! 5 is supposed to be good for 30 seconds but I guess with the speed blowing the wind it isnt.
Honestly it hit me when I drove by a wreck and it looked like a major bonfire my dad said one of our cousins was in the car. My dad said he had something in the car that exploded killed the driver and our cousin. I'm sure he was trying to show off the car.
Great point about not skimping on the details. Most car guys want to bolt on more power, better suspension, and shiny bling. They don't usually pay attention to wiring, plumbing, and fire extinguishers.
This is great. I’m just a garage tinkerer but I started to take fire safety a LOT more seriously when my turbo RSX lit on fire on tail of the dragon. If there weren’t several people there to help me put it out, it would have burned to the ground.
How does Novec compare to AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) for effectiveness and corrosion? I had an AFFF system that got me out of the car safely but did not fully extinguish the fire, and after the fact caused quite a bit of corrosion in the aluminum that was exposed to it.
It is non-corrosive and doesn't leave a residue. There are also some reports of AFFF causing cancer although it's kinda like soapy water so not sure about that. I think this stuff puts out the fire better, like halon but with more post-cooling due to the phase change of the liquid.
If you own a factory race car built in 2016? Your cell bladder needs to be replaced!! They are only good for 5yrs!! Shout out for using my video from Michelle's car!! :)
All wise words, especially when it comes to fuel and high pressure systems on some modern direct injection engines that run 2000 bar rail pressure. Methodical neat fuel systems planning and not being tempted to use cheap mick mouse Chinese braided lines and anodised fittings that have poorly machined thread are key to peace of mind . Fit and forget Anyone else noticed the horrible habit modern manufacturers have of using plastic cam / valve covers? Not very safe in an impact either, we have a BMW S58 M4 engine going in one of our race cars and kinda cringe of the thought of the high pressure injectors getting damaged in an accident 😵💫 One last thing that’s always puzzled me , why are race cars not forced to have remote electric safety valves for the fuel lines ? Any engine bay fire or major accident and generally the whole fuel feed is exposed leaving quite a lot of fuel in the feed pipe . A bulkhead mounted valve would definitely help and probably save your car especially older ones that don’t run a fuel pump controlled by the ECU .
The Subaru WRX Community really needs your excellent knowledge and commentary on the new 2022+ platform. Its a 2.4L FA20 engine with twin scroll turbo but comes stock with Equal Length headers which removes the classic Subaru rumble. There is only two companies making Unequal length headers, both slightly different. Can you do your fantastic science talk on EL vs UEL headers on this car, as well as how having the divided collector at the twin scroll turbo vs not divided could affect turbo performance? As well as other air flow and emissions information? Over two years now and everyone is still fighting EPA with this car...
Perfect timing. Just started this project of mounting fire extinguisher to my car. However, I'm not sure if the ELEMENT E50 is that good... despite seeing them at almost every car shop here.

We got a little wilder with fire...well Pyrodex actually, as kids....by the time they stopped our stupidity a US Senator had got involved lol. Whoops. Haha
I got some Pyrodex kid stories to tell, my friend would steal it from his dads reloading cabinet and we made this awesome rocket. We almost burned down my neighbors house.

Awesome! We made a PVC rocket with a warhead! I didn't figure out the center of pressure right and it was unstable and hit our neighbor's house and blew up and got his garage burning. Then there was the oxy-acetylene in the waterbed that got us on the news.

Equal length is better as is twin scroll. Shouldn't you be posting this sort of question on the videos regarding the FA engine?

Weak crank, weak rods, poor balance shafts, bad rod ratio, burns oil, basically the whole engine. First engine designed during Nissan's decline.
