In this episode which is a bit long you can see how I replace the sunshade on the panoramic sunroof on a BMW Gran Turismo f07 5 series , it's a rather complicated operation don't be fooled by the ease with which this operation is done in this clip, and bonus I replace a side view camera and the parking brake button, all new and original parts. Operation performed with a sense of responsibility and professionalism are certain details that do not appear in the video but this does not mean that they were not made !

We are just having our sunshade fixed out of warranty for our BMW active touerer. Aus. After initial dealer quote of $2000 plus AUD. We contacted head office. They then advised that an inspection was required and reimbursable if $300. The inspection done at dealer which they indicated back to us it could be fixed for $600 plus, but they were speaking to head office. Anyway full repair being done at no charge. It's been a few days. Hopefully we get the car back tomorrow.

watched the video and decided that this job is too involving for a guy without a garage , so found a local shop in Bulgaria, Plovdiv specialized in sunroof and power windows repairs ... less than 400 euros and 2 days later the brand new sunshade is in the car

You never ever fail to amaze me with your videos and expertise. The fact that you share videos as a guide I commendable. I'm always in awe how gentle you are with removing components, keeping them aside and then reinstalling. Plus, I find your subtle sense of humour blend in really well with the core content. This is the exact problem I'm having. The dealer is charging $5,276.08 to do this job. From my research this appears to be a common recurring problem for this particular car (535i GT). Everyone having this problem should reach out to BMW so they will know it's a problem that should be addressed. Maybe they can or will come up with a fix for the band that's coming detached from the fabric. This is a very expensive repair and its not covered under extended warranties.

In the group on Facebook I'm asking everyone to flood their inbox at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com so they (BMW) can see the magnitude of the problem and maybe they will create a recall to help all of us. Yes, mine failed twice as well. BMW is aware of the problem. They have made a replacement part that the dealership says will prevent this from happening again. No surprise, it is over $7000 to get the new improved version installed.

I have 2016 gt550 and I have the exact same problem with the sunroof shade. The metal part got unglued from the cloth. Jeeze, so many operations to do to change the part. My first and last BMW for sure.

Ich habe für gleiche Arbeit bei BMW in Darmstadt 2000 Euro ausgegeben. Die Arbeit wurde sehr mangelhaft durchgefürt. Ich habe das Auto dann noch 5 mal abgeben müssen um schäden zu beseitigen. Jetzt nach 2 Jahren ist wieder etwas kaputt gegangen. Schade, dass ich diese Video nicht frühe gesehen habe. Super Arbeit. Danke 👍

What an excellent video, I just purchased a 2018 535 gt. When the dealership tested the sunroof the fabric had separated from the metal strip/coil and proceeded to tangle itself exactly like your video. So, I wanted to see how involved the job is. Luckily, BMW is going to repair the sunroof (they said two weeks) but I'm sure it will happen again and also wanted to see if it was something I could myself. Thank you again.

How do I order the side view camera and a replacement parking button?
The black trim to the roof switch panel has 2 recesses in the front edge for removal - never pull down on the rear edge of the switch panel, its very fragile.
There is no need to remove the rear view mirror, or the trim halves behind it, which are fragile and easily broken.
To remove the lowest part of the B post trim, door tread plates should be removed and the seats moved forward, first to gain access to the clips at each end of the B post trim.
There is no need to remove the large D post trim panel completely, just loosen the top part - this panel is very tricky to refit.
To lower the headliner, lower the seat backs as far as possible, release the headliner all round the outer edge with a wide trim tool, then pull down on the edges round the glass. Move the liner forward onto the dash - this allows room to remove the entire cassette to a bench where it is much easier to do the replacement, as this is a critical stage as the blind must be properly seated and aligned.
The cassette and headliner are best supported via a batten across the roof aperture and 2 bungee cords. Attach the liner at the rear roof light, then the front centre screw in the rain channel, then the centre rear clip, then all the clips round the aperture (which are easily displaced)
Super cool ! each one with its own technique, but this operation was performed according to the specifications from TIS, but you can do it in another way if it is simpler for you . Any sensitive ornament that can break will break only if you do not know how to you manipulate it, and about the rear view mirror I strongly recommen you to take it down because in a second of inattention you will touch it with the headliner and you can break the support from the windshield , but I repeat each with his technique, thank you for the suggestions
I did this job solo too, using the TIS. This is why I commented. Your video was excellent, but I think you made life harder for yourself. I agree it is an advanced job

Hello, i have the same problem, how much cost the sunroof ?
This is a very common failure point on these vehicles. Expensive part and difficult to replace. Mine failed and I cut the fabric away at the rear by the roller and then tinted my sunroof with the darkest limo tint available. This has worked well to avoid the cost and the likely failure of a replacement because of the same bad design. Many other F07 owners have done the same tint to avoid this repair.

Thanks for the guide! I followed this on an install today but the new shade sits around 1cm from the front of the sunroof when closed leaving a small gap near the drivers seat. I followed all the instructions as per the guide. Is there a way to move it forward by about 1cm so it doesn't have a gap?
For anybody playing at home. I had to complete the full initialisation of the sunroof (takes about 2 mins) and that resolved the gap at the front.

Follow-up: I followed your instructions and fixed the sunshade in my 535i GT. I had a local BMW repair tech run the ISTA calibration. Works great! Thank you!

What can be the issue if after the same panorama fixing, the buttons works incorrectly. If I pull close button - roof going to open and when I pull open button roof close. That means, if I want fully open the glass roof I need to close textil part 😅

Great job! Well filmed with enough light. I have a same kind of problem in my car and also the mechanism is jammed. Makes a terrible noise. Maybe some clips are broken? The sun visor does not go back, only half way... Any ideas? And, where did you find the replacement visor? Keep up the good work!
Hello, I'm having the same problem as you. I took my car to the BMW dealership and they're charging almost $6k to do this work. The Techs at BMW made it worse by trying to do a reset of the sunroof/sunshade and now the sunshade is caught in the front and back mechanism and won't move at all. My BMW warranty expired on 5 Jan 2021 which would have covered this problem.

While on the subject for the panoramic roof. Anybody know if the rear glass portion is adjustable with screws since I’m almost sure the sound is coming from it. I have a creaking sound and it’s very annoying. Appreciate all the help I can get.

$2300 repair four years ago. About to do it again in 2021. I've five bimmers. Car has been trouble free except for this recurring issue. Wish they could do better.
It's quite expensive because it's a pretty complex operation and the part is expensive, to keep you longer when you open the sunroof open the sun visor to the maximum. if not the air current will force it and it will detach from the sides
