- Narayaneeyam is a poem composed by Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri. This text is a profound summary of the Bhagavata Purana, an 18,000-verse scripture devoted mainly to the worship of Lord Krishna.
In this piece, the dancer envisions a radiant bluish light, more luminous than a bed of blue lily flowers. At the centre of this divine glow is a youthful figure adorned with dark curly hair, peacock feathers, and a garland of mandaara flowers. He is surrounded by sages like Naarada and the embodies wisdom of the Upanishads. This piece continues with the Carnatic krithi "Manasa Sancharare", a composition by the saint-composer Sadashiva Brahmendra. This song reflects a yearning for the mind to dwell in the presence of the Lord and be immersed in his contemplation.
This is taken from a recording of my Kuchipudi recital in Paris at Théâtre Le Mandapa on 6th October 2024.
