10 or more years ago, I vaguely recall reading in the RMV guide for my state encouraging cyclists to ride in the opposite direction, which made sense to me at the time. Now I can't imagine doing that and I'm glad these ideas have been changing for the better.
Well done University of Miami and IBikeSafe.org! As a year round bike commuter with thousands of miles on very busy New Jersey roads, I've stayed safe by practicing these principles. Rules of the road should be followed by ALL drivers of vehicles.
I hope you add the application of rear view mirror (either attach to glasses, helmet, or handlebar. I cannot believe many people doesn't know this exists.
How anyone thinking riding a bike with your back to coming 4K# vehicles is a good idea escapees me. You cannot see what is coming to move out of the way, and with the levels of distracted drivers now the odds of a collision are highly elevated. On the other hand riding against traffic allows the rider and the vehicle driver to see each other and avoid collisions. But it is OK, only the naïve that believe such obvious illogical carp are at risk, I'll take the ticket and live to ride another day.
