I almost was a concrete angel. I told school, I told family members they did nothing but tell my parents so abuse got worse. But at 12 I ran away to a roller skating rink and they hid me until the police got there. I'm now 53 with no family except the one I created. My 6 kiddos now grown and I broke the cycle
What a wonderful ending to a tragic story. I may not know you, but I am still very proud of you for having the courage to do what you needed to do. Love to you and yours.
Ran away at 14. School did nothing. Cops did nothing for me. 41 now with 4 kids and 2 grandkids. It took work but the cycle can be broken. This song will always hit hard.
The very first time I saw this video I was 9-10 years old. I watched it got up, walked to my room and sobbed for like 20 minutes. This song is sooo good.
You were wiping your eyes and missed the moment you realize that the little boy was her guardian angel as he went through the light to find her in heaven and they run to the children on the hill. Martina is a country music singer and has wonderful hits on sad subjects and love stories.
Grab the tissues. This song gets me everytime. Martina may be 5' tall but her voice is huge. She's one of the best female county singers. This is another deep rabbit hole to dive in
While I was never abused by family (thank God for that), I was horrendously bullied to the point of thinking that as a kid. I hope and pray no one has to feel that way, especially children. I am fine now and do love myself.
The Little Girl-John Michael Montgomery is a must. As a Christian and as a girl dad you should do this one. Also Alyssa Lies- Jason Michael Carroll. Both of these you need the official video
This song gave me the strength i needed at a time i wished i had never been born, I grew up, got away, and broke the cycle. Thank you Mrs. Granden for refuseing to look away.
I’m familiar with several Martina McBride songs. She really shows you she can sing in ‘A broken wing’ I have never heard this one. Powerful song but it’s the video with the girl that that makes it tough. You’re a champ brother. You held it together better than I would have. Having 13 and 10 year old son and daughter I couldn’t imagine wanting to hurt them. Sadly, there are evil people out there that feed off others pain. Not every parent deserves a child but every child deserves a loving parent. God bless y’all.
I literally just suggested u listen to Martina Mcbride on ur Alison Krauss video! This was a heavy one to start with, but she has a lot of amazing songs! A broken wing, Independence day, Happy girl, In my daughter's eyes, This one's for the girls....She is definitely an artist u could let Alynia listen to!
I’m a retired Elementary Physical Education teacher and I reported so many cases. I’m thankful that some were helped and taken away from the abuse. It’s the saddest thing you can see. They opened up to me cause they trusted me. I don’t how anyone can overlook it but they do. Not me.
In my eyes the mark of a real man is his ability to express his emotions and especially to be able to cry. I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that you are a guy, since your name is Eric? I think also being open on public forums like this about being able to cry is awesome to help normalise it. So Thank you 🙏
So many reacting to this song are so touched and emotionally torn up by the time that the little boy angel walks through the people at the funeral that they are shutting their eyes or looking away Hope you go back and re-watch that part of the video.. Great song! Touching reaction.
6'4" 290Lb long haired Country Boy... I'll be lucky to make it through without dampened eyes. Gets me every time! It's sadness and anger at the same time. HOW & WHY would anyone?!?!
Happened to me and my siblings in the 70's. It took my 6th grade teacher reporting what she saw and the school helping my grandmother build a case against my parents to bring us to safety.
I always feel like i need to hug a reactor when they experience this the first time. If you are able to watch it again you missed a key moment in this video. I understand your eyes were down...but at the funeral scene you see the little boy that she was friends with, becomes an orb and that's when she greets him with the hug. He was her guardian angel all along. It's still sad to see them run to play with all the other children but it's one of the few moments that makes this video bearable for me. Hug your babies tonight BP!
I've heard/seen this once before and never caught on that the little boy was her guardian angel waiting for her. Brings even more poignancy to the song. I'm an English lit nerd - the early British poet/illustrator from the Romantic period, William Blake's "Songs of Experience" will get you every time. Onions...lots of onions...
Martina has an amazing voice, and so many of her songs tell really compelling stories. Kids deserve our protection, and their innocence should be protected as long as possible.
Anything Martina McBride is amazing. Her song was played at my daughter's funeral. In my Daughter's Eyes. Go done the rabbit hole please. God's Will is another year jerker
Martina is a country artist, mostly 90s country. My favorite artist. When this song came out it brought me to tears. Just breaks your heart knowing this really happens. I wish I could save all those babies from being abused. They don't deserve it.
You said her name correct. You also caught me in my feels with your emotion. Keep being the best father you can be for your babies. Martina is a country genre singer most popular thru the 90s, early 2000s. She's up there with Reba and Patty during that time. Broken wing and Independence day are other great songs from her. She sang a lot about raising awareness and empowerment for those who may not have had a voice.
Martina will take on a cause. She has a fire voice. Beautiful. My favorite of hers is Anyway. So inspirational. But for pure fire in vocals check out a live version of Where would you be.
The boy was her guardian angel and preparing her for her fate and welcomed her with open arms when it was her time. You have to check you "Where Would You Be" by her. It us a live performance from the CMT Flameworthy Awards. You will witness the most amazing vocal control.
Another great tear-jerker of hers is "God's Will"... but my favorite Martina McBride song is "Anyway" - amazing, inspirational, & one of her many songs that make you marvel at how such an enormous voice comes out of her tiny body. She is a powerhouse vocalist.
Her voice is heavenly. She didn't even stretch it out past 20% on this one. Theres several live videos when she just holds notes for 20-30 seconds and just blows your mind
Yep BP, you’re one of many of us. I have 2 daughters, they’re older now but we can’t protect them from everything and teach them how to take care of themselves and reach out. Take care of them when we can, support them and always tell them they always have a place to go, especially to talk. As they get older, they’ll need you as much, believe me. Being a dad doesn’t end at an age. Teach them to be themselves and that they can rule the world…
Sadly there just are not enough of fathers like you, BP and my own awesome husband. And you are 100% correct there is no end date on being a parent. The way we parent just has to evolve and grow as our children do.
Great reaction. This is country music. I have seen this video and herd the song many times, but it still hits me in the feels. I am a father and grandfather now, and yes if I seen anyone doing this I would get involved and it would not be good for the abuser.
BP, you're growing up my man and finding there's a whole new world of music styles to explore. Sometimes you read to much into them or don't understand the simple meaning of them but the more you watch and listen, the more you learn. Bless you my man because thru people like you the younger generation will learn and understand the roots of their music.
I remember when this song came out. I cry evertime. We need songs like this. Maybe it will save not at least one child, but all children of abuse. Thank you
Her catalog is massive with hits. She’s a super famous country music songwriter, singer probably my favorite song of hers is broken wings and Independence Day, but I could go on and on about how talented and brilliant of a vocalist she is.
Martina is a legend in Country Music and is known for doing these kind of songs to bring up awareness. Listen to God's Will, another great one from Martina.
Martina McBride has a powerful voice...this song gets me every single time! Thanks for the reaction!! It causes tears every single time I hear this song. I was not abused, nor have I ever abused or neglected my children. It happens all the time and it is so unacceptable!
I love that Martina McBride isn't afraid to sing about tough subjects. She has such a beautiful, strong voice. "Broken Wing" is another great song, as well as "Independence Day". Both of those songs are about breaking out of abusive situations.
You missed the part of the video that shows that the little boy was a spirit who was there to help the little girl in her passing. Martina is a powerhouse vocalist. I saw her sing at the Grand Ole Opry, and she sounds as good, if not better, than her recordings.
Most country music is based on REAL life events. Thats what makes country music as special as it is, and its fanbase as big and various as it is. And when you throw in storytellers like Martina McBride, it goes to another level.
You will probably see comments saying that this song is about her niece. It is NOT about anyone she knows. She has confirmed this many times. Imagine how horrified she and her family must be that anyone thinks that. She didn't write but her vocals bring out the feels when addressing a topic that sadly happens every single day around the world. She has many many hits. If you want her full vocal capacity listen to her perform Where Would You Be live at the CMA.
First time hearing this song and like BP I hoping it meant she had the strength to break away. Because in my mind another way to think of a concrete angel is how so many of us essentially turned to concrete just went so deep inside of ourselves during the abuse. We mentally freeze and sometimes physically freeze and we feel like concrete and we can’t move because of the concrete. My heartfelt love goes out to all of the other surviving, but at so many points in time had to become concrete angels so you could survive to live another day. And in case you don’t already know it, that generational chain of trauma and abuse it can be broken! Hang in there and keep fighting and take strength from myself and all of the others in this comment section that have survived and have broken that chain. ❤❤❤
Martina is a road you should go down!! Almost all of her songs have deep meaning and touch your heart...some to listen to are; Broken Wing, Independence Day, Where Would You Be? And In My Daughter's Eyes!! ALL amazing songs!!❤❤
Bless your heart. This one is a tear-jerker, for sure. Heartfelt reaction from you, for sure. Martina is a Country artist, but agree that this song could fit in other genres. 💙
Great reaction it does it to me too bro I have kids and grandkids now and knowing there are kids getting beat up by parents rips my heart out I can never get enough hugs from my kids and grandkids
Great reaction. Check more Martina. Incredible voice, generally associated with country music for sure. Her range is amazing. Independence Day will hit you in the feels too.
I grew up in a dysfunctional and abusive home. By God's grace my siblings and myself grew to be normal adults. This goes on around us, if you see signs say something, they need help. The boy is an Angel, angels are around us.
I’m so thankful you are alright. I’m a survivor as well. I can’t scream loud enough for people to speak up if they know or see a child being abused. God bless you and your siblings.
This is a tear jerker 😢 I went through childhood abuse so I resonate with it 😢it wasn't to this extreme but bad all the same 😢😢I protected my children like they were made of glass❤❤
This is a song that hurts deep down into your soul. I have a daughter and a crenddaughter and feel so lucky that they were both raised in a loving family.
You definitely set a good example for what a grown man should be. You show your love for your family and are not afraid to show it to the world. Keep the faith and keep setting such a good example. Again I say. Your mother would be very proud of you. God bless.
As a childhood abuse survivor I can’t thank you enough for reacting to this video. I could have been that little girl, everyone looked away and I was left to fight my way out. This shouldn’t be happening in our world. I sincerely thank you for your platform and bringing this sickness to light. Much love.
❤I have heard this song on the radio, but have never paid attention to it. Definitely had me crying this morning...abuse is so wide spread today, it's awful.
Martina McBride touched on subjects in some of her songs that weren't really talked about at the time. I remember them being really controversial and only showing the music videos during a certain time slot (I think it was like 10pm to 4am).
awesome reaction to this song. I like your reactions because they are real and if it has to affect you. I had 3 kids and they are grown up now but there are times when they can push you, we did this to our parents too. I just learned to walk away for a few minutes to take the anger away then deal with stuff
God bless you, many are not able to break the cycle.
Thank you for sharing that highly personal story. So glad you got away and that you're happy with kids of your own.
🙏
Ran away at 14. School did nothing. Cops did nothing for me. 41 now with 4 kids and 2 grandkids. It took work but the cycle can be broken. This song will always hit hard.
I think you looked away right as you discover that the little boy was an angel sent to be there with her.
Yes! I noticed couple times he’ll pull up lyrics and miss certain parts
Yes, he did. I wanted to tell him "You just missed an important part".
Give him a moment because he got emotional, and who knows what else was going on in his head, knowing he lost 2 children.
Yes, he did. I was about to post that.
@@motogem1408 I didn’t see any remarks disparaging the man, just stating he missed an important aspect of the video. Love the channel
Next, you need to do Martina’s song “Independence Day”!! Pleeeaaassseee!
oh yes- please react to this one
I was thinking the same thing
Absolutely. Same depth, better ending.
Yes. And wasn’t there another song that Martina sung that was about another girl and abuse?
Please react to Martina McBride's Independence Day! Her voice is amazing!
The very first time I saw this video I was 9-10 years old. I watched it got up, walked to my room and sobbed for like 20 minutes. This song is sooo good.
All those kids at the end are Angels .. Martina McBride is country . Need to listen to Independence Day by Martina McBride...
Independent Day is phenomenal. Please react to it sometime soon
Sorry, autocorrect struck again. Independence Day
Sorry, autocorrect struck again. Independence Day

This song is about Martina's niece who's mother beat her to death.

She's not one of the best female singers in the country. She IS the best female singer in country music.
@raymondjohnson2616 eh. That would be Alison krauss. I'll let her fight it out with Miss Rondstat for second
@@allenruss2976 I agree and sadly Martina's voice has been broken for years.
To me one of the saddest lines ever in a song is " Sometimes she wishes she was never born"...omg; NO CHILD should ever have to feel this way😢❤
Agreed
While I was never abused by family (thank God for that), I was horrendously bullied to the point of thinking that as a kid. I hope and pray no one has to feel that way, especially children. I am fine now and do love myself.
Even sadder is the line...when morning comes it'll be too late.
The Little Girl-John Michael Montgomery is a must. As a Christian and as a girl dad you should do this one. Also Alyssa Lies- Jason Michael Carroll. Both of these you need the official video
Alyssa lies is differently one he needs to do.
Yessss omg both are beautifully tragic
First time I heard Alyssa Lies I wanted to throw the radio
I don't think BP can handle another song like this but great suggestions!
The Little Girl was going to be my suggestion.
Martina McBride - “A Broken Wing” !!
I agree. I don't know why this song gets overlooked by so many people. This song is absolute fire.
Independence Day
Martina McBride has some of the most heart wrenching, beautiful songs. I think one of her most popular songs is Independence Day
Everyone looks away when the little boy is revealed to be her guardian angel 🤦🤦🤦
The boy was an angel.
I almost skipped this one, glad I didn't, you're vulnerability is was makes your channel so great!!!
She's one of our great female country singer's!
This song gave me the strength i needed at a time i wished i had never been born, I grew up, got away, and broke the cycle. Thank you Mrs. Granden for refuseing to look away.

The concrete angel is the grave marker. I've seen this many times and it crushes me every time. Now you need to see Independence Day
Martina has a great voice!! She’s got lots of other good songs too! 🥰
it's okay to get sad and shed tears, because this is a serious sad song. It tears me up each time

One of my favorite songs by Martina McBride is God's Will and broken Wing
Gods Will is a masterpiece ❤
Yes "Gods Will" is beautiful! So beautifully written!

Martina McBride touched on subjects in some of her songs that weren't really talked about at the time. I remember them being really controversial and only showing the music videos during a certain time slot (I think it was like 10pm to 4am).
She has another equally powerful song ~'INDEPEDENCE DAY~ that deals with similar topic
Beautiful song, Beautiful voice
awesome reaction to this song. I like your reactions because they are real and if it has to affect you. I had 3 kids and they are grown up now but there are times when they can push you, we did this to our parents too. I just learned to walk away for a few minutes to take the anger away then deal with stuff
