The Harry Potter community is so much more than just the books.
the way people still go absolutely buck wild when the Snape puppet appears is hilarious
JKR’s tweets have been upsetting for a while, but seeing the communities reaction to what happened today makes me love the fans even more.
The ending made me cry after such a hard day. Harry Potter is so much more than the books or the author. This community gives me so much hope and I'm so proud to be a part of it.
One thing that I keep in mind is that books belong to their readers. As soon as a book is published, it ceases to belong to the person who wrote it and is instead in the hands and minds of those who read it. That has helped me separate the negative and harmful beliefs J.K. Rowling has and voices from the book series that has gotten me through so many things in my life. I realize that Harry Potter has been a light in the darkest, lowest points in my life, but I also know that the woman who wrote the series doesn’t have the power to taint that light if I don’t let her. I hope this is something that helps other people to remain positive and hopeful despite the things that J.K. Rowling might say.
Sometimes I just think we're better readers of her books than she is, although that really doesn't make it less heartbreaking..

I’ve been in this amazing community for a little over a year and I’ve loved every second of it! I’ve only really made one friend but it still has been so much fun!

Those who love HP are collectively so much greater than certain ppl who need to grow a bit more.
Finally someone of stature in our communities that was gracious enough to give a mature opinion of JK's current foot-in-mouth tweets yet point out the books and community are separate, and that our fandom and causes live on. I could not imagine just tossing HP out. It was almost as unsettling watching lgbt and non-lgbt using our community to spread the same level of vitriol and intolerance on Twitter. Patience and education is our best weapon. We can't let every negative comment completely overtake us or we've lost. I actually think you make a great spokesperson.

I was at the Boston Yule Ball. It was my first one and it was so much fun!
at this point, the actual books as jkr wrote them has so little to do with my enjoyment of harry potter because the community is so beautiful and wonderful and it’s been able to pick up the (insane amounts of) slack for where jkr didn’t address concepts and conflicts thoughtfully or critically
Jeeeeeeeeez just thinking about you specifically gets me pissed off about this :((( like you have dedicated so much of your time to doing good, you have Harry Potter love and references in your published work forever, and she’s got to go and disrespect like that?! Like the fact that Sam just got to see her in person the other day and it can’t just be a nice moment makes me so freaking sad! How can! She be ! Like this ! For REAL. It makes no literal sense.
I will always love harry potter it was my first true fandom. Also thank you Jackson Bird, watching your videos has helped me realize I'm a trans guy and I know it's probably silly but I look up to you.
