Don't get me wrong, I love them, I love shadows, hands down one of the best vocalists today, but man when they play older stuff I really miss the rougher voice that MADE those songs
Old vocals sounded great but it’s absolutely impossible to sustain that vocal style over a lengthy career. If he kept it up he’d probably sound about as good as Vince Neil sounds nowadays. I think he’s found a nice compromise here.
By the time of this video, he said he would do softer vocals as he was on a long tour and wanted to rest. If you listen to the newest tour, you can hear he's back to his rasp vocals (with a different approach), he even does some screaming now

How many of you are actual vocalists and understand that raspimess in the voice = hindered vocal range. Not to mention that Matt sounds like he's sick (because his breathing isn't as stable here as it is in other performances from 2016-17). He's taking a different direction with his singing and everyone assumes it's because he's losing his voice. Just because it's cleaner doesn't mean he's lost it. I can 110% guarentee that he can still belt it like he used to, he just chooses head voice over his chest voice nowdays.
