I do this with jrpgs all the time. Yes its not always optimal but i love bonding with the characters and using what i enjoy haha. For example in Xenoblade 2 some blades are trash but if i love their design ill use them sometimes cause why not.
The main game is easiest when you do this. Before you get to the point where you're rebuilding the sphere grid from scratch it is pretty important to have coverage from each character's portion of the grid (except Kimahri).
If you just hammer all those stat spheres that you pick up along the way into Yuna, and keep her in the party whenever possible, AND make sure to get her Moon Crest early on. By the time you hit the Calm Lands you can get her Celestial weapon AND the first power up. Yeah it's useless for leveling due to no AP. But boy is it going to overpower Yuna until anyone else can get near a Celestial weapon.
If you're not focusing all your return. teleport, and special spheres on Yuna to hop around the sphere grid like a madman, then you're playing the game wrong. Yuna needs Rikku, Wakka, and Auron's sphere grids most. For the aeons. Their power is based on her stats, and if you increase her speed and power, then the aeons become GODLY!!! QUICKLY! Simply put, Aeons are best girl.
That's literally what I did on my first playthrough was just cheese fights with Aeons. Then afterwards I just slowly focused on Tidus and Auron, occasionally switching in Rikku.
@@thesurvivorssanctuary6561 Building up the aeons only makes life more difficult for yourself in endgame. All the opponents aeons would be best suited for fighting....are set up to defend themselves well against aeons, and possibly one-shot them! I tune them for dueling other summoners (Ifrit gets Nul-Ice, Ixion gets Nul-Water, etc.) but that's about it.
With a little work, Kimahri can be a great fill-in character. I had him learn Holy, Curaga, and Steal, so he can rotate in if I need to switch someone out (I haven't gotten to flare or ultima yet). With Lancet, he can refill MP without using ethers. For a 40-50 hour playthrough, this has helped me a lot.
Just replaying now and i made him my Tank (Use him for Guard/Sentinel with a counterattack weapon, Threaten and Entrust when i don't need his limit for Big Guard or White Wind) while rushing Quick Hit on Auron. Works like a charm. While i get why they're good lategame during the story i feel Tidus and Wakka are actually the most useless characters.

Completely agree with this list. Also another thing I would put in Tidus, Wakka, & Rikku's favors is the fact they are also the only ones who can fight underwater too.
My favorite Final Fantasy game ever! Although Lulu is my favorite character, I must agree where you placed her on the tier list. Throughout regular storyline gameplay, I found her to be one of the most useful only because her evasion status is OP! She literally saved my ass amongst many ambushed enemy battles as well as some bosses due to her high defense and magic defense status. Give her the HP spheres and customize her armor with more HP, she literally is a tank in the defense department.
She's weirdly very tanky even though black mages are usually glass canons. She's a good magic defence wall in certain fights where magic enemies will just nuke everyone else if you need to tag her in to use Phoenix Downs on more important party members like Rikku.
What kills me with rikku is how late you get her. And unless you had the patience before the internet to figure out her mix combo, she is weak on every level. I know how op she is now, but I got sick and tired of bringing her into battle late cause I know if you start with her, she is the first to be targeted and killed.

In the original back when I first played in 2004, I used quick hit and drain spam with Tidus on the underwater original mob that drops the wings to discovery over and over. Had to farm a lot of my own stuff out of ignorance because I never had internet at my parent's place. 1950's and all so they refused computers lol.

For someone who has a little experience with the game (namely, how the sphere grid works), but is still engaging in fairly normal play, Kimahri is actually an incredibly powerful asset. You just have to be willing to engage in a little bit of Blitzball near the beginning of the game. Try this strategy for leveling him: 1) Progress clockwise from his starting location around to the entrance of Rikku's path on the sphere grid, activating all the Spheres on the way. 2) Progress through Rikku's path until you finish the first circle, picking up Steal, Use, and a bunch of HP, Agility, and a bit of Magic. 3) Use a Return Sphere (from Blitzball) to jump back to the bottom sphere in his initial circle. Grab the spheres directly below him. 4) Backtrack to the beginning of Wakka's path and enter it. Grab Dark Attack and possibly Silence Attack, then wait next to the Lv.2 Lock gating access to Lulu's path. 5) When you defeat Spheriomorph, you get a Lv.2 Key Sphere, and you'll be able to use his accumulated levels to jump straight into the end portion of Lulu's path. Assuming you were using all the characters fairly evenly so everyone had about the same amount of levels gained, Kimahri will absolutely beat the brakes off of anything you come across with easily acquired endgame magic. Up to that point, he will basically be a better version of Rikku, minus her busted limit break. After finishing Lulu's path, you can have him follow behind Wakka or simply use another Return sphere to teleport back to Steal/Use and begin plundering Yuna's path for more magic boosts. People may not like Kimahri for other reasons, but when people think he's just a weak character, it sadly indicates to me that they're just not very familiar with how the levelling in the game works.
Nope not even close to the damage Tidus and Wakka provide with their overdrive, and can't compare to the cheer utility of Alchemy. Not mentionning magic become almost complete garbage in the post game except for 1 or 2 fights.
Tide-is makes more sense as a pronunciation given the audible resemblance to the word "tide" and the water theme and connection he has to Blitzball, don't @ me.
In certain situations (targets with low defense) Yuna can deal more damage with Oblivion than Wakka can with Attack Reels, and it should always be better than Blitz Ace assuming 255 Strength, so I actually rate Yuna slightly higher than Tidus, especially when you factor in that each of her Aeons can be used as a shield against party wipes.
Yuna obviously. All potential points to her because of aeons and solely because of aeons. When you can switch in other "characters" to fight for you, while also having a ton of ability yourself, that completely towers over all others.

First time I ever played through this, I solely used Tidus, Yuna and Auron. Shit was it difficult. A few years later, I saw my cousin playing and every battle he would switch out to ensure every character got experience. I thought this was odd but upon returning a week or so later, he was breezing through bosses that took me multiple tries. Question though, I'm not sure what path to take Kimhari down in the HD remake. I just got to the point I need to choose. Any suggestions?
Take him down Rikku's tree. You might as well just save all his levels until you get your first Lvl1 Key Sphere to get him as good a head start as possible. 1. You get Steal/Use before Rikku joins the party (can be useful, but often overstated) 2. Rikku's tree has a decent mix of HP/Strength/Magic (in addition to a boatload of Agility) which fits Kimahri pretty well
If you play through again and run expert sphere grid there are a few tricks that make your team busted. Tidus - reach haste, get to the strength sphere just to the right of this (will return to this later) bring him all the way back to lancet. All units - move to lancet Grind sinspawn on boat for at least 15 levels. Beat Lord ochu in forest. Reset until you get 2x HP sphere drop. Put these in empty nodes around lancet and teach to whole party. Let to Luca, win the blitzball match. This gives a strength sphere. Put in last empty slot for +4 strength on everyone. What I do next is personal choice as I do not care about lulu. Send her and only her on her way down her grid. This. makes a bunch of upcoming fights a cake walk. Play through game all the way through till the thunder plain without moving units (all still on lancet) . Only problem you may encounter is the boss at moonflow as lulu made everything else easy. Rikku can go on her way down her grid, she can get what we are placing later. Dodge 50 lightning bolts (this is a pain with encounters on but can be done) this rewards 3 strength spheres. Put them just to the north (on tidus path) on 3 empty nodes. Gets these with every unit. You are now hitting 2-3k with auto attacks. Send Yuna to life on her own grid then send down lulu's to where fira, ect are (this doesn't even require key spheres) Once done send to Auron grid as aeons scale better off attack and get quick hit off tidus. Send kim down Yunas grid, he scales most off of magic and this will make his boss fight later in the game easy af. It also keeps him somewhat useful. Next rikku for the reasons the above noted. Forget about lulu she did her job. Auron will be hitting like a truck, send back to his own grid, then tidus then rikku. Wakka is a monster. Send down his own, tidus, auron or rikku. Which order doesn't matter too much at this point. Again I would prioritise auron but insure I get quick hit. Rikku can go down her own, go backwards on kim or tidus back to the nodes we placed then follow tidus/auron/wakka grid. Again you want quick hit. That is how you make broken units using the expert grid imo.
I sent him down Auron's grid, he makes a great tank specially since some of his limits scale off max HP. I sent Auron into Tidus' grid when both junction.
I don't suppose it would be possible for you to rank the characters from Star Ocean 2: The Second Story? If you could though, I would highly recommend its remake/remastered Second Evolution since there's an extra party member available
It all depends on where you are at the game, then: early, mid or late. I'm right after the wedding and Lulu is STILL a beast, to the point that everybody else kinda feels like a supporting character in battles XD
Also if you were to remove the second damage cap. Kumari has the strongest move in the game, sunburst which without any cap deals around 7.6 million damage
Ffx is a amazing game. Every character can learn everything though so it comes down to limit breaks and jn that case Rikku is by far the best Wakka second Tidus/Yuna 3rd/4th Aaron 5th Lulu/kimarhi 6th/7th

I recently decided to platinum that sucker because it’s one of my favorite games. I use to hate blitzball because I thought it was just too hard. Not anymore. I recruited a new team and now I love it. I don’t know what I’ve been doing for years but it’s fun as all heck.
To me it depends on preference. Yuna and Auron were always my strongest characters quite quickly in the game. More so in the Remaster Version because of the Expert Sphere Grid. I think it depends on how you develop your characters. I always slowly worked with Tidus, Yuna, and Auron with Lulu on the side for Bikanel to Bevelle part. Rikku and Wakka briefly for the underwater parts. My main team was always extremely powerful by time I got Zanarkand. There are also wonderful places throughout the game for grinding. My early favorite was Bevelle Highbridge pre Seymour fight. I got Sphere Levels and Money quickly!
Idk, when I realized Lulu would become kind of useless in the lategame I kind of just decided I'm gonna handicap myself and I'm sticking to Tidus, Auron and Yuna for a party since as soon as I got Auron. This may be a dumb idea but until now I actually enjoy this, I switch around for elemental weapons if I need weakness exploits, and overall just plan stuff out. I plan on making Yuna a mixed mage like you suggested, also it's possible I'm gonna use Rikku either in place of Auron or as a 4th member, tho not sure, I'll see
I think Auron with his celestial weapon should be bumped up a bit. Sure, his actual speed stat can be a hinderance, but his first strike ability from his celestial has saved my butt a ton when going up against stuff like the malboros. Plus, having that ability to act before the opponent regardless grants you time to assess the situation, and act accordingly, as opposed to being one shot before you could blink.
@@geraldtarrant2748 there are many ways of playing as khimari all options are viable that's why he's such a good character, it usually depends for me on whether I beat the Luca goers and get the strength up if I don't I go for a magic set up, either way I get a teleport sphere and Lvl 1 key spheres from blitzball and go to the end of Auron or Yuna's sphere grid and i usually get steal and use before Chocobo Eater thanks to the Lvl 1 key spheres from blitzball :)

Wakka was my best character by far. He can hit enemies at any distance and he quickly becomes as powerful as Auron except he's much faster. It's also pretty hilarious watching the final boss in the game get taken out with one hit from a volleyball. Speaking of which, I always thought it would be funny if Wakka threw his volleyball at a spiked enemy it would pop and fly in a little fart circle before returning to him and you would see him patching it until his next turn.
Though i have to completely agree on your number one but for a different reason. I never used wakka's ult and still felt he was the strongest character in the mid to late game. His damage and acc make him such a consistent machine for dishing out damage. Add in some self made weapons with pierce and he is the solo god.
Top 3 are easily Tidus, Yuna, and Rikku just from base speed alone, at least in my opinion! It takes quite a while to get any of the others to even catch up! I'd argue that Yuna is the best character with access to her aeons with passado, oblivion, and zanmanto (pretty reliably I might add). The aeons also make great shields when necessary. Yuna is usually my first character to hit 9999 and 99,999.
if you get the remake and choose the expert sphere grid it makes yuna able to get magic early on and u can take kimari onto any members grid. i usually make him a second harder hitting rikku and it makes u able to steal early on.
I literally have every party member in nearly every encounter or boss I do lmao, just press Triangle or Y and they'll all get the same EXP, not including buffs and etc
Finally a list that excludes bias and properly focuses on the key aspects of the characters and their usefulness. However, I would move Yuna up because of how unbelievably busted those aeons are. If you understand the mechanics revolving around the aeons and max out Yojimbo's hidden "Favor" stat then he'll one shot anything that looks at you the wrong way including bosses.
before establishing such a list maybe specify where you are in the game for like to the end yuna is god tier period, her nul ability (wich many dont use O_o) allow to negate any elemental thing going on, that include the one elemental almost always poping (helloo nul light in thunder plain), bahamut having base domage break is a great asset to end some boss before loosing track, her magical power, the most needed sumon to serve as meatshield for dark aoen she has it all kimari can quickly get steal and such negating every 2-3 machina/fight in gagazet lets say, the counter on his ultimate weapon make him great for end game and so on
Also I won't argue with your placements of Wakka, Tidus, Rikku, and Yuna, as you are 100% correct to put Wakka at the top, and debating the order of the other three would just be a pedantic splitting of hairs for the sake of starting a fight. The only thing I'll point out is that you forgot to mention that there is a small bit on Yuna's path where she can sneak into the start of Rikku's, allowing her to nab Steal, Use, and all those HP nodes, thus giving you a third (if you count Kimahri) character who can spam Al Bhed Potions as well as help gorge on all those weapon and armor customization ingredients with very little time spent. I dunno if that puts her above Tidus, who has Hastega, but as I said...pedantic splitting of hairs.
If you run through the game with the expert sphere grid you can round everyone out. I made Lulu a backup support with shell protect and reflect. Made yuna a black mage who could steal and use. Kimahri was the primary thief and white mage and tidus wakka and auron all swapped paths mid way through and became ever more useful. Rikku was kind of useless except her limit since I had yuna and kimahri stealing everything already I gave tidus auron and lulu entrust to give their bars to rikku if needed
you can get attack reels in like 5 minutes....simply use Reset date. recruit brother fromt he airship. jecht shot. attack reels will show up in next tournament. win it bc brother wedge and tidus are unbeatable. it doesn't take any time at all. its hilariously easy.
When ffx first came out I strictly stuck to playing as Lulu and Yuna. Lulu because of her badass spells and heavy black magic damage & Yuna because hello, aeons!!!! So most of the characters were weak throughout the game which gave me trouble! And I avoided at all costs playing as Kimahri. But then it changed and Kimahri became my fave. After training him as equally as I did with everyone else I came to find that he is strongest in terms of strength, yes even more than Auron’s massive blades and can lay some heavy crits! I mean he is a ronso afterall
at the game start is definitely Kimarhi, you can start hitting a thousand-point damage before even getting to the Ifrit temple.... after while Yuna is the one that follows up if you recycle those sphere points with the other characters (to open up level pathways that she'll later take to get leveled up)... after that almost every battle can be won with Bahamut until the game finishes up ....
I usually used the 3 girls together in the endgame and thought they felt pretty good for most of the game I'm general but I always thought it was annoying switching everyone in to get one hit so they get experience lol.

@@TheBig451 I always find him more dense than obnoxious or annoying, whist he's' racist it's more driven by religious- Yevon's- doctrine (Al bhed+macina= SIN) rather than irrational automatic hatred of anyone looking different than he; no helped by his hardheadedness. But the most important thing is he gets over it ,even naming his son Vidina, Al Bhed for"future". Now that's character growth!!
Having just finished this game, Lulu double cast flare + Auron mental break makes end boss easy. Tidus with hastega rounded out my 3. for lists like this I think you should judge based on a normal person just trying to beat the game and not any crazy grinding.
Auron is the only character with first strike on his celestial weapon I think. That makes him the only viable counter to Malboro's in omega ruins if you're going in with everyone on celestial.
Wakka, and Yuna is soooo OP if you utilize her return sphere and black magic or friend spheres. Also, kimahri in that you can customize his weapons and strength assuming you know how to do it right. But he will not get god strength till end game. I’ve played and beat this game about 7 times lol tired of it already.
But when it comes to celestial weapons. Lulu ends up with the best magical offense because her weapon comes comes magic booster. Also her drain fury is extreme useful if you are going for break hp limit as everything else that heals in the game aside from curaga typically caps out at 9,999.
Oh yeah, Lulu outdamages everyone when it comes to magic thanks to Magic Booster, but in a game where Quick Hit trumps any spell, having abilities like Evade & Counter, Magic Counter, and Counterattack combined with physical attacks trumps Onion Knight.
@@BrendenBarlow if you opt for BHPL, you're better served with Auto-Regen. At extremely high levels of play, wasting a turn healing when you could get in 4 Quick Hits seems less than optimal. Especially since you can use Rikku for a party-wide 100% HP restore with Ultra Potion, or a 50% HP restore with Esunaga with Ultra Cure Magic really isn't worth using in the late game, especially since so many bosses have 255 Def and MDef, far better to use physical attacks since Celestial Weapons ignore Def. The only real reason to use Magic late game is for offense, and as an offensive tool it's far inferior to physical
@@ryanball8944 im talking about fury drain, not curaga. With high magic it is extremely easy to land 16 turns of it which equates to 160k damage and healing for lulu. I understand its really not as useful as other things, my point is. While not many, there are still a few options for magic end game if someone wanted to use lulu. Believe me, i don't need to be educated, ff10 is my life😂😂😂 i just wanted to clarify. Sorry if it seemed like i was trying to argue with you.
Nope you are wrong, anima cannot surpass 99999 damage limit, making her useless, it only looks like she does a ton of damage but after you get break damage limit a regular hit from anyone will do the same amount of damage as Animas Overdrive. You can disable her summoning/ Overdrive animation to see her real damage!
@@CloudsOverDD Really? Then why don't you skip the animation for Anima's overdrive and have a look at total damage dealt, it wont surpass 99,999 damage where as Waka hits multiple times at 99,999 per hit, if you have break damage limit weapon equipped.
@@vovasyhin7219 no you're definitely wrong man.....Anima Oblivion hits 16 times in the International/HD releases. all at max damage. Anima has hightest damage attack in the game. a simple google search would prove that.
I hate the mechanics of Lulu's Spell Fury, I never get decent yield out of it; when I can, I teach her Entrust and then give her OD gauge to someone better able to use it. I also never got the best Mixes out of Rikku (Hyper Mighty Guard, Null-All, etc.)
I really disagree with the idea that Kimhari takes too much work to make good. It's pretty easy to obtain new rages, since all you have to do is lancet every mob the first time you come across him. Plus, he has the easiest access to other sphere grids. What's your problem with him? Also, I take issue with the whole "best team" idea for this game, considering how X's combat revolves around constantly switching your party and manipulating the turn order.
the work it takes for khimari isn't about his overdrive, but about his level. sure you can go to wakka's grid for example, but with the same amount of work , wakka is ahead of khimari on that grid, and is better than him (and same thing for any other grid) you have to level him more to catch up, and if you want to explore several grids, you also need the key spheres.
I liked playing the game switching characters, except Kimahri i didnt use. Even Rikku since i didnt want to learn combination for her items. I dislike in most FF that black mage get low tier as the game goes on. Lulu is my fav in this game, i kept using her till the end.
incorrect, Yuna is the top. As you mentioned, she is the only one that can summon, which makes her the ONLY different character end game. Rikku is a close second because of her overdrive. Then Wakka and Tidus just because they can swim, the rest are tied... and in Kimaris defense, he got screwed, by the time you finish his section of the grid, you have only acquired the spheres to go into Lulus tree, he needed to go into Wakkas or Aurons to shine.
The swim team is basically half the reason theyre the characters to put the most emphasis on. There's not many swimming bosses but since you HAVE to use them there you may as well hard focus them.
Rikku made it to the god tier! The best FFX character. I had her complete the Sphere Grid back on the PS2. "Rikku is-no contest-the most USEful party member." You can't tell me that pun wasn't intended. My version of the list would put Wakka on the low tier. I never cared much for him, Lulu, or Kimahri. My primary team was Rikku, Tidus, and Yuna (or Auron when Yuna was unavailable).
During the main story of the game magic is the strongest, by the end of the game, as in, fighting all the dark aeons and penance, the best team is Rikku, because of her mix ability, Wakka because of attack reels, and Tidus because of blitz ace
Yeah this list is pretty good and hard to argue. I think Auron should be higher than Yuna because his overdrives are just way better. Banishing Blade is so OP. Not to mention Yunas black magic becomes more and more useless the stronger your party gets. Rikku is probably the best character in the game due to how useful she is in every single endgame fights and monster arena bosses/dark aeons. She has the best overdrive in the game as well. I also think Wakka could be lower because... well.... he's wakka lol
@@xheralt yeah i actually agree a bit but if you hit 255 magic it does the exact same. Attacks give you more turns and have faster animations than magic so magics useless if you have max 255 magic/strength
The bottom 3 are ironically the 3 more useful in my playthrough. Lulu's magic is top tier, Kimahri can do a little of everything (BLK wht magic, steal, use and on par with Tidus in strength) and Auron one shots everything that isn't a boss fight
Man I always end up geting more use out of characters that others consider low tier. Morgana in Persona 5 and Lulu her. Gotta say I dont do much post game stuff, aside from getting all Aeons, Yunas Celestial Weapon and taking out Omega, becuse the grind is just to much work fore me. So its mainly just in the mainstory but Lulu rivals Auron fore the position of best non Aeon damage dealer fore most of the game and by the end of the story Lulu wins that race with that skill that allows her to cast 2 spells in one turn (called "Hades Magie" in the German version of the game) and Ultima. And Yuna hits harder with magic but I keep her busy with casting white magic. Lulu deals like 14000 Hp damage to Omega per turn. Although its not like she is the MVP. I mostly focuse on using Yunas Aeons. They are so much fun to use.

Wakka Riku and Tidus are all god tear bc they are your main team imo its not just quick hit but haste and cheer aswell, Yuna and everyone else i fully agree bc i only bring Yuna in when needed in late game. I use Lulu untill i defeat the first magic sphere then she usually sits and Kamari who's that lol jk but seriously, i never use him in battle once he is strong enough to best his solo ronso fight witch doesn't take that long especially when you use expert sphere grid and send him straight down Aarons sphere line 👍, only time i use Aaron is when i have to have first strike... Literally thats it, i put piercing on a Wakka weapon and sit Aaron amd Kimari Lulu
My final team was Auron, Tidus and Rikku HOWEVER once I got Yuna’s celestial weapon it was over for the story. With Rikku’s help she destroyed all the enemies I came across.
7.Kimahri, he kind of remind me of Frog, he can do a lot, but is not good, he can be good, but is tiring to make him strong. 6.Lulu, she rocks in the beginning of the game, but get ignored at ending, specially with Yuna learning black magic, plus her overdrive.... 5.Auron, I feel like he is a better version of Kihmari, he can do and take damage, but lacks supporting skills. 4.Tidus, Tidus is kind of a time mage and that's great, he has good overdrive and can deal tons of damage, for a warrior-like, a feel like he is a bit fragile... 3.Yuna, Yojimbo Lol no, but the at the same time yes, not only summoning is amazing but she can also give support to the others, plus, do damage with black magic 2.Rikku, Rikku can do everything, she is the fatest, can heal, buff, do damage and the list goes on. 1.Wakka, he is not as fast as Rikku, but he can do even more damage and status ill (without rely on his overdrive)

I do this with jrpgs all the time. Yes its not always optimal but i love bonding with the characters and using what i enjoy haha. For example in Xenoblade 2 some blades are trash but if i love their design ill use them sometimes cause why not.

The main game is easiest when you do this. Before you get to the point where you're rebuilding the sphere grid from scratch it is pretty important to have coverage from each character's portion of the grid (except Kimahri).

If you just hammer all those stat spheres that you pick up along the way into Yuna, and keep her in the party whenever possible, AND make sure to get her Moon Crest early on. By the time you hit the Calm Lands you can get her Celestial weapon AND the first power up. Yeah it's useless for leveling due to no AP. But boy is it going to overpower Yuna until anyone else can get near a Celestial weapon.
Zanmato and Bahamut can break damage limit if you can jump Yuna's sphere grid to maximize strength.

If you're not focusing all your return. teleport, and special spheres on Yuna to hop around the sphere grid like a madman, then you're playing the game wrong.
Yuna needs Rikku, Wakka, and Auron's sphere grids most. For the aeons. Their power is based on her stats, and if you increase her speed and power, then the aeons become GODLY!!! QUICKLY!

That's literally what I did on my first playthrough was just cheese fights with Aeons. Then afterwards I just slowly focused on Tidus and Auron, occasionally switching in Rikku.

All the opponents aeons would be best suited for fighting....are set up to defend themselves well against aeons, and possibly one-shot them! I tune them for dueling other summoners (Ifrit gets Nul-Ice, Ixion gets Nul-Water, etc.) but that's about it.
With a little work, Kimahri can be a great fill-in character. I had him learn Holy, Curaga, and Steal, so he can rotate in if I need to switch someone out (I haven't gotten to flare or ultima yet). With Lancet, he can refill MP without using ethers. For a 40-50 hour playthrough, this has helped me a lot.
Just replaying now and i made him my Tank (Use him for Guard/Sentinel with a counterattack weapon, Threaten and Entrust when i don't need his limit for Big Guard or White Wind) while rushing Quick Hit on Auron. Works like a charm.
While i get why they're good lategame during the story i feel Tidus and Wakka are actually the most useless characters.
Yeah having Kimahri have Holy by Macalania, and steal by calm lands/Mt. Gagazet is OP as hell for the casual play through.

Completely agree with this list. Also another thing I would put in Tidus, Wakka, & Rikku's favors is the fact they are also the only ones who can fight underwater too.
My favorite Final Fantasy game ever! Although Lulu is my favorite character, I must agree where you placed her on the tier list. Throughout regular storyline gameplay, I found her to be one of the most useful only because her evasion status is OP! She literally saved my ass amongst many ambushed enemy battles as well as some bosses due to her high defense and magic defense status. Give her the HP spheres and customize her armor with more HP, she literally is a tank in the defense department.
She's weirdly very tanky even though black mages are usually glass canons. She's a good magic defence wall in certain fights where magic enemies will just nuke everyone else if you need to tag her in to use Phoenix Downs on more important party members like Rikku.
What kills me with rikku is how late you get her. And unless you had the patience before the internet to figure out her mix combo, she is weak on every level. I know how op she is now, but I got sick and tired of bringing her into battle late cause I know if you start with her, she is the first to be targeted and killed.
Literally can get her to lv 70 in thunder Plains my dude just gotta use grenades and have lulu with thundara and grind for an hour or 2
EXACTLY! By the time we get her she’s mainly useless. And had no idea her mix was broken. I didn’t find out till I randomly came across internet blogs discussing it months after beating it. Internet was something at the time I didn’t readily have access to.

In the original back when I first played in 2004, I used quick hit and drain spam with Tidus on the underwater original mob that drops the wings to discovery over and over. Had to farm a lot of my own stuff out of ignorance because I never had internet at my parent's place. 1950's and all so they refused computers lol.

For someone who has a little experience with the game (namely, how the sphere grid works), but is still engaging in fairly normal play, Kimahri is actually an incredibly powerful asset. You just have to be willing to engage in a little bit of Blitzball near the beginning of the game. Try this strategy for leveling him:
1) Progress clockwise from his starting location around to the entrance of Rikku's path on the sphere grid, activating all the Spheres on the way.
2) Progress through Rikku's path until you finish the first circle, picking up Steal, Use, and a bunch of HP, Agility, and a bit of Magic.
3) Use a Return Sphere (from Blitzball) to jump back to the bottom sphere in his initial circle. Grab the spheres directly below him.
4) Backtrack to the beginning of Wakka's path and enter it. Grab Dark Attack and possibly Silence Attack, then wait next to the Lv.2 Lock gating access to Lulu's path.
5) When you defeat Spheriomorph, you get a Lv.2 Key Sphere, and you'll be able to use his accumulated levels to jump straight into the end portion of Lulu's path.
Assuming you were using all the characters fairly evenly so everyone had about the same amount of levels gained, Kimahri will absolutely beat the brakes off of anything you come across with easily acquired endgame magic. Up to that point, he will basically be a better version of Rikku, minus her busted limit break. After finishing Lulu's path, you can have him follow behind Wakka or simply use another Return sphere to teleport back to Steal/Use and begin plundering Yuna's path for more magic boosts. People may not like Kimahri for other reasons, but when people think he's just a weak character, it sadly indicates to me that they're just not very familiar with how the levelling in the game works.

Nope not even close to the damage Tidus and Wakka provide with their overdrive, and can't compare to the cheer utility of Alchemy. Not mentionning magic become almost complete garbage in the post game except for 1 or 2 fights.

In certain situations (targets with low defense) Yuna can deal more damage with Oblivion than Wakka can with Attack Reels, and it should always be better than Blitz Ace assuming 255 Strength, so I actually rate Yuna slightly higher than Tidus, especially when you factor in that each of her Aeons can be used as a shield against party wipes.

First time I ever played through this, I solely used Tidus, Yuna and Auron. Shit was it difficult.
A few years later, I saw my cousin playing and every battle he would switch out to ensure every character got experience. I thought this was odd but upon returning a week or so later, he was breezing through bosses that took me multiple tries.
Question though, I'm not sure what path to take Kimhari down in the HD remake. I just got to the point I need to choose. Any suggestions?
Take him down Rikku's tree. You might as well just save all his levels until you get your first Lvl1 Key Sphere to get him as good a head start as possible.
1. You get Steal/Use before Rikku joins the party (can be useful, but often overstated)
2. Rikku's tree has a decent mix of HP/Strength/Magic (in addition to a boatload of Agility) which fits Kimahri pretty well
If you play through again and run expert sphere grid there are a few tricks that make your team busted.
Tidus - reach haste, get to the strength sphere just to the right of this (will return to this later) bring him all the way back to lancet.
All units - move to lancet
Grind sinspawn on boat for at least 15 levels.
Beat Lord ochu in forest. Reset until you get 2x HP sphere drop. Put these in empty nodes around lancet and teach to whole party.
Let to Luca, win the blitzball match. This gives a strength sphere. Put in last empty slot for +4 strength on everyone.
What I do next is personal choice as I do not care about lulu. Send her and only her on her way down her grid. This. makes a bunch of upcoming fights a cake walk.
Play through game all the way through till the thunder plain without moving units (all still on lancet) . Only problem you may encounter is the boss at moonflow as lulu made everything else easy.
Rikku can go on her way down her grid, she can get what we are placing later.
Dodge 50 lightning bolts (this is a pain with encounters on but can be done) this rewards 3 strength spheres.
Put them just to the north (on tidus path) on 3 empty nodes. Gets these with every unit.
You are now hitting 2-3k with auto attacks.
Send Yuna to life on her own grid then send down lulu's to where fira, ect are (this doesn't even require key spheres)
Once done send to Auron grid as aeons scale better off attack and get quick hit off tidus.
Send kim down Yunas grid, he scales most off of magic and this will make his boss fight later in the game easy af. It also keeps him somewhat useful. Next rikku for the reasons the above noted.
Forget about lulu she did her job.
Auron will be hitting like a truck, send back to his own grid, then tidus then rikku.
Wakka is a monster. Send down his own, tidus, auron or rikku. Which order doesn't matter too much at this point. Again I would prioritise auron but insure I get quick hit.
Rikku can go down her own, go backwards on kim or tidus back to the nodes we placed then follow tidus/auron/wakka grid. Again you want quick hit.
That is how you make broken units using the expert grid imo.
I sent him down Auron's grid, he makes a great tank specially since some of his limits scale off max HP.
I sent Auron into Tidus' grid when both junction.
I don't suppose it would be possible for you to rank the characters from Star Ocean 2: The Second Story? If you could though, I would highly recommend its remake/remastered Second Evolution since there's an extra party member available

Also if you were to remove the second damage cap. Kumari has the strongest move in the game, sunburst which without any cap deals around 7.6 million damage

I recently decided to platinum that sucker because it’s one of my favorite games. I use to hate blitzball because I thought it was just too hard. Not anymore. I recruited a new team and now I love it. I don’t know what I’ve been doing for years but it’s fun as all heck.
To me it depends on preference. Yuna and Auron were always my strongest characters quite quickly in the game. More so in the Remaster Version because of the Expert Sphere Grid. I think it depends on how you develop your characters. I always slowly worked with Tidus, Yuna, and Auron with Lulu on the side for Bikanel to Bevelle part. Rikku and Wakka briefly for the underwater parts. My main team was always extremely powerful by time I got Zanarkand. There are also wonderful places throughout the game for grinding. My early favorite was Bevelle Highbridge pre Seymour fight. I got Sphere Levels and Money quickly!
Idk, when I realized Lulu would become kind of useless in the lategame I kind of just decided I'm gonna handicap myself and I'm sticking to Tidus, Auron and Yuna for a party since as soon as I got Auron. This may be a dumb idea but until now I actually enjoy this, I switch around for elemental weapons if I need weakness exploits, and overall just plan stuff out. I plan on making Yuna a mixed mage like you suggested, also it's possible I'm gonna use Rikku either in place of Auron or as a 4th member, tho not sure, I'll see

I think Auron with his celestial weapon should be bumped up a bit. Sure, his actual speed stat can be a hinderance, but his first strike ability from his celestial has saved my butt a ton when going up against stuff like the malboros. Plus, having that ability to act before the opponent regardless grants you time to assess the situation, and act accordingly, as opposed to being one shot before you could blink.
The Expert sphere ruined Lulu more than the Zodiac Job license board ruined Fran LMAO.

@@geraldtarrant2748 there are many ways of playing as khimari all options are viable that's why he's such a good character, it usually depends for me on whether I beat the Luca goers and get the strength up if I don't I go for a magic set up, either way I get a teleport sphere and Lvl 1 key spheres from blitzball and go to the end of Auron or Yuna's sphere grid and i usually get steal and use before Chocobo Eater thanks to the Lvl 1 key spheres from blitzball :)

Wakka was my best character by far. He can hit enemies at any distance and he quickly becomes as powerful as Auron except he's much faster. It's also pretty hilarious watching the final boss in the game get taken out with one hit from a volleyball. Speaking of which, I always thought it would be funny if Wakka threw his volleyball at a spiked enemy it would pop and fly in a little fart circle before returning to him and you would see him patching it until his next turn.
Though i have to completely agree on your number one but for a different reason. I never used wakka's ult and still felt he was the strongest character in the mid to late game. His damage and acc make him such a consistent machine for dishing out damage. Add in some self made weapons with pierce and he is the solo god.
i was actually able to get the lightning trophy by doing it in sets of 10 and pausing the game in between each set to calm my brain and reset my focus
Top 3 are easily Tidus, Yuna, and Rikku just from base speed alone, at least in my opinion! It takes quite a while to get any of the others to even catch up! I'd argue that Yuna is the best character with access to her aeons with passado, oblivion, and zanmanto (pretty reliably I might add). The aeons also make great shields when necessary. Yuna is usually my first character to hit 9999 and 99,999.
if you get the remake and choose the expert sphere grid it makes yuna able to get magic early on and u can take kimari onto any members grid. i usually make him a second harder hitting rikku and it makes u able to steal early on.
the issu being endgame, the expert sphere has less nod sadly :/

I literally have every party member in nearly every encounter or boss I do lmao, just press Triangle or Y and they'll all get the same EXP, not including buffs and etc
Finally a list that excludes bias and properly focuses on the key aspects of the characters and their usefulness.
However, I would move Yuna up because of how unbelievably busted those aeons are. If you understand the mechanics revolving around the aeons and max out Yojimbo's hidden "Favor" stat then he'll one shot anything that looks at you the wrong way including bosses.

for like to the end yuna is god tier period, her nul ability (wich many dont use O_o) allow to negate any elemental thing going on, that include the one elemental almost always poping (helloo nul light in thunder plain), bahamut having base domage break is a great asset to end some boss before loosing track, her magical power, the most needed sumon to serve as meatshield for dark aoen she has it all
kimari can quickly get steal and such negating every 2-3 machina/fight in gagazet lets say, the counter on his ultimate weapon make him great for end game

Also I won't argue with your placements of Wakka, Tidus, Rikku, and Yuna, as you are 100% correct to put Wakka at the top, and debating the order of the other three would just be a pedantic splitting of hairs for the sake of starting a fight. The only thing I'll point out is that you forgot to mention that there is a small bit on Yuna's path where she can sneak into the start of Rikku's, allowing her to nab Steal, Use, and all those HP nodes, thus giving you a third (if you count Kimahri) character who can spam Al Bhed Potions as well as help gorge on all those weapon and armor customization ingredients with very little time spent. I dunno if that puts her above Tidus, who has Hastega, but as I said...pedantic splitting of hairs.
If you run through the game with the expert sphere grid you can round everyone out. I made Lulu a backup support with shell protect and reflect. Made yuna a black mage who could steal and use. Kimahri was the primary thief and white mage and tidus wakka and auron all swapped paths mid way through and became ever more useful.
Rikku was kind of useless except her limit since I had yuna and kimahri stealing everything already
I gave tidus auron and lulu entrust to give their bars to rikku if needed
The last run of FFX I did was over 200 hours. That, combined with all the runs before it, and I've still never had the patience to get attack reels
you can get attack reels in like 5 minutes....simply use Reset date. recruit brother fromt he airship. jecht shot. attack reels will show up in next tournament. win it bc brother wedge and tidus are unbeatable. it doesn't take any time at all. its hilariously easy.
200 hours? I did a full clear, minus some blitz ball, in 99 hours. What were you doing for 200 hours if you didnt even get attack reels?
When ffx first came out I strictly stuck to playing as Lulu and Yuna. Lulu because of her badass spells and heavy black magic damage & Yuna because hello, aeons!!!! So most of the characters were weak throughout the game which gave me trouble! And I avoided at all costs playing as Kimahri. But then it changed and Kimahri became my fave. After training him as equally as I did with everyone else I came to find that he is strongest in terms of strength, yes even more than Auron’s massive blades and can lay some heavy crits! I mean he is a ronso afterall
at the game start is definitely Kimarhi, you can start hitting a thousand-point damage before even getting to the Ifrit temple.... after while Yuna is the one that follows up if you recycle those sphere points with the other characters (to open up level pathways that she'll later take to get leveled up)... after that almost every battle can be won with Bahamut until the game finishes up ....
I usually used the 3 girls together in the endgame and thought they felt pretty good for most of the game I'm general but I always thought it was annoying switching everyone in to get one hit so they get experience lol.
I agree. Anima (pronounced Enema! ) is fantastic but not enough to make Yuna God tier. And I agree 100% with your God tier choices!

for lists like this I think you should judge based on a normal person just trying to beat the game and not any crazy grinding.
Auron is the only character with first strike on his celestial weapon I think. That makes him the only viable counter to Malboro's in omega ruins if you're going in with everyone on celestial.
Or just equip a ribbon. Or just have anyone with first strike and switch them out to someone with a better weapon
Wakka, and Yuna is soooo OP if you utilize her return sphere and black magic or friend spheres. Also, kimahri in that you can customize his weapons and strength assuming you know how to do it right. But he will not get god strength till end game. I’ve played and beat this game about 7 times lol tired of it already.

But when it comes to celestial weapons. Lulu ends up with the best magical offense because her weapon comes comes magic booster. Also her drain fury is extreme useful if you are going for break hp limit as everything else that heals in the game aside from curaga typically caps out at 9,999.

Oh yeah, Lulu outdamages everyone when it comes to magic thanks to Magic Booster, but in a game where Quick Hit trumps any spell, having abilities like Evade & Counter, Magic Counter, and Counterattack combined with physical attacks trumps Onion Knight.

@@BrendenBarlow if you opt for BHPL, you're better served with Auto-Regen. At extremely high levels of play, wasting a turn healing when you could get in 4 Quick Hits seems less than optimal. Especially since you can use Rikku for a party-wide 100% HP restore with Ultra Potion, or a 50% HP restore with Esunaga with Ultra Cure
Magic really isn't worth using in the late game, especially since so many bosses have 255 Def and MDef, far better to use physical attacks since Celestial Weapons ignore Def. The only real reason to use Magic late game is for offense, and as an offensive tool it's far inferior to physical
@@ryanball8944 im talking about fury drain, not curaga. With high magic it is extremely easy to land 16 turns of it which equates to 160k damage and healing for lulu. I understand its really not as useful as other things, my point is. While not many, there are still a few options for magic end game if someone wanted to use lulu. Believe me, i don't need to be educated, ff10 is my life😂😂😂 i just wanted to clarify. Sorry if it seemed like i was trying to argue with you.
I kept their «role» in sphere grid xD For example ignoring other charas Special, Skill, Magic paths and went for Matt, HP/MP/ att etc.
in the hd version Yuna can have higher dmg than wakka with anima's overdrive.
Nope you are wrong, anima cannot surpass 99999 damage limit, making her useless, it only looks like she does a ton of damage but after you get break damage limit a regular hit from anyone will do the same amount of damage as Animas Overdrive. You can disable her summoning/ Overdrive animation to see her real damage!

@@CloudsOverDD Really? Then why don't you skip the animation for Anima's overdrive and have a look at total damage dealt, it wont surpass 99,999 damage where as Waka hits multiple times at 99,999 per hit, if you have break damage limit weapon equipped.
@@vovasyhin7219 no you're definitely wrong man.....Anima Oblivion hits 16 times in the International/HD releases. all at max damage. Anima has hightest damage attack in the game. a simple google search would prove that.

Yojimbo is the best character.
I hate the mechanics of Lulu's Spell Fury, I never get decent yield out of it; when I can, I teach her Entrust and then give her OD gauge to someone better able to use it. I also never got the best Mixes out of Rikku (Hyper Mighty Guard, Null-All, etc.)
Me a hyper intellectual that broke all sphere barriers and grinded until I filled everyone's sphere grid completely.

I really disagree with the idea that Kimhari takes too much work to make good. It's pretty easy to obtain new rages, since all you have to do is lancet every mob the first time you come across him. Plus, he has the easiest access to other sphere grids. What's your problem with him? Also, I take issue with the whole "best team" idea for this game, considering how X's combat revolves around constantly switching your party and manipulating the turn order.
the work it takes for khimari isn't about his overdrive, but about his level.
sure you can go to wakka's grid for example, but with the same amount of work , wakka is ahead of khimari on that grid, and is better than him (and same thing for any other grid)
you have to level him more to catch up, and if you want to explore several grids, you also need the key spheres.
I liked playing the game switching characters, except Kimahri i didnt use.
Even Rikku since i didnt want to learn combination for her items.
I dislike in most FF that black mage get low tier as the game goes on. Lulu is my fav in this game, i kept using her till the end.

incorrect, Yuna is the top. As you mentioned, she is the only one that can summon, which makes her the ONLY different character end game. Rikku is a close second because of her overdrive. Then Wakka and Tidus just because they can swim, the rest are tied... and in Kimaris defense, he got screwed, by the time you finish his section of the grid, you have only acquired the spheres to go into Lulus tree, he needed to go into Wakkas or Aurons to shine.
The swim team is basically half the reason theyre the characters to put the most emphasis on. There's not many swimming bosses but since you HAVE to use them there you may as well hard focus them.

Rikku made it to the god tier! The best FFX character. I had her complete the Sphere Grid back on the PS2.

My version of the list would put Wakka on the low tier. I never cared much for him, Lulu, or Kimahri. My primary team was Rikku, Tidus, and Yuna (or Auron when Yuna was unavailable).
Funny thing is that auron can do over 7,8m damage in one hit with his celestial weapon.
But else i can agree with your tier list.
How? His strongest Overdrive only hits twice.

During the main story of the game magic is the strongest, by the end of the game, as in, fighting all the dark aeons and penance, the best team is Rikku, because of her mix ability, Wakka because of attack reels, and Tidus because of blitz ace

Yeah this list is pretty good and hard to argue. I think Auron should be higher than Yuna because his overdrives are just way better. Banishing Blade is so OP. Not to mention Yunas black magic becomes more and more useless the stronger your party gets. Rikku is probably the best character in the game due to how useful she is in every single endgame fights and monster arena bosses/dark aeons. She has the best overdrive in the game as well. I also think Wakka could be lower because... well.... he's wakka lol
In my experience, Yuna's black magic, combining her stat progression with Lulu's, almost gives her better damage yield than Lulu!
@@xheralt yeah i actually agree a bit but if you hit 255 magic it does the exact same. Attacks give you more turns and have faster animations than magic so magics useless if you have max 255 magic/strength

The bottom 3 are ironically the 3 more useful in my playthrough. Lulu's magic is top tier, Kimahri can do a little of everything (BLK wht magic, steal, use and on par with Tidus in strength) and Auron one shots everything that isn't a boss fight
Man I always end up geting more use out of characters that others consider low tier. Morgana in Persona 5 and Lulu her.
Gotta say I dont do much post game stuff, aside from getting all Aeons, Yunas Celestial Weapon and taking out Omega, becuse the grind is just to much work fore me.
So its mainly just in the mainstory but Lulu rivals Auron fore the position of best non Aeon damage dealer fore most of the game and by the end of the story Lulu wins that race with that skill that allows her to cast 2 spells in one turn (called "Hades Magie" in the German version of the game) and Ultima. And Yuna hits harder with magic but I keep her busy with casting white magic. Lulu deals like 14000 Hp damage to Omega per turn.
Although its not like she is the MVP. I mostly focuse on using Yunas Aeons. They are so much fun to use.
Depending on the battle I usually used Auron - Tidus - Yuna then Rikki - Lulu and Kimarhi
I mean I just started playing this game for the first time since I was like 7 last month, and kimahri and lulu are my heaviest hitters so somebody PLEASE tell me why everybody else thinks they’re bad?!

Wakka Riku and Tidus are all god tear bc they are your main team imo its not just quick hit but haste and cheer aswell, Yuna and everyone else i fully agree bc i only bring Yuna in when needed in late game. I use Lulu untill i defeat the first magic sphere then she usually sits and Kamari who's that lol jk but seriously, i never use him in battle once he is strong enough to best his solo ronso fight witch doesn't take that long especially when you use expert sphere grid and send him straight down Aarons sphere line 👍, only time i use Aaron is when i have to have first strike... Literally thats it, i put piercing on a Wakka weapon and sit Aaron amd Kimari Lulu
My final team was Auron, Tidus and Rikku
HOWEVER once I got Yuna’s celestial weapon it was over for the story. With Rikku’s help she destroyed all the enemies I came across.
7.Kimahri, he kind of remind me of Frog, he can do a lot, but is not good, he can be good, but is tiring to make him strong.
6.Lulu, she rocks in the beginning of the game, but get ignored at ending, specially with Yuna learning black magic, plus her overdrive....
5.Auron, I feel like he is a better version of Kihmari, he can do and take damage, but lacks supporting skills.
4.Tidus, Tidus is kind of a time mage and that's great, he has good overdrive and can deal tons of damage, for a warrior-like, a feel like he is a bit fragile...
3.Yuna, Yojimbo
Lol no, but the at the same time yes, not only summoning is amazing but she can also give support to the others, plus, do damage with black magic
2.Rikku, Rikku can do everything, she is the fatest, can heal, buff, do damage and the list goes on.
1.Wakka, he is not as fast as Rikku, but he can do even more damage and status ill (without rely on his overdrive)
