    The information concerning the toggles is great. If you are using a cheap, poly tarp--many of our number do--the toggles reduce the stress on the grommets, preventing the grommets from tearing out of the tarp. And if you choose to wear a blanket on a cold day, the toggle and a piece of rope make a very convenient belt.

    your maneuver of getting your water/cook bottle out of the fire has added to the reasons I've been seriously considering switching over to this style of water bottle. as an added, I use my small toggle mainly off the inside of my tarp/tent to hang my personals, an candle lantern. looks like 2014 is going to be a hell'ava good an busy year for you an yours. i'm glad

    Dave you mentioned your eyes are not that good, so you dont use knots unless you have to . Makes alot of sense ,that also makes alot of sense in colder weather when your hands are cold and you lose dexterity. This makes it much easier since your not trying to untie knots with cold fingers, good video.

    When securing loads to the A frame that is equipped with prussics and toggles, the time-proven diamond O hitch is very good to use. The diamond O also works well on a ladder style frame.

    Dave you are a constant reminder that, brains are just as important as muscle, you need to have an equilibrium between both. No muscle, you're weak, no brains, you're dumb. A balance, like everything in life is needed.

    I recall reading ware soldiers would have a three foot length of rope with a loop on one end and a toggle on the other. Every one would have one so if they needed a rope for something they could link them and not need to carry a long pice of rope. Good video and a lot of useful info. Thanks.

    As a fellow can't-see-crap-without-my-glasses sufferer, I've added the 6th C to the 6 Cs of survivability (of course moving the old 6-10 to their respective position of 7-11). #6 is Cataract...bring glasses, which luckily for me are also strong enough to use for combustion...gotta love multi-use tools, eh? Might need a new 11Cs video for us geezers!

    Dave was your rope belt and tree toggle 1/2" manila rope? After watching your blanket video, i got an 80/20 wool blanket from Harbor Freight to try it out. Even used your double up rope loop for the belt. The door to my office is always open for the dog and it gets cold, for me that is :-) I wrap up like you showed and I am toasty warm. (no heater in the room) Thought your toggle belt would be good for that also. Thanks for all the videos Dave.

  • @ShinKyuubi

    Good video with good info. I gotta say that belt of yours could be the cheapest belt I have ever seen in my life. Considering sticks are everywhere in the woods and you can make cordage out of other things you find in the woods the belt could pretty much be free if you don't wanna buy man made rope.

    My buddy and i had been small game hunting a few weeks ago and he had taken a spill. When i went over to see if he was ok he had said I'm fine but my gun barrel is all jammed up with dirt. Thanks to watching Dave's videos and watching how he multi tasks many items i pulled out my knife shaved off a stick and poked it down his barrel then tied a small stick to the end of a peace of bank line i had in my pack and ripped off a peace off my handkerchief pulled it out the barrel and he was amazed at how i did that. lol only thing i didn't tell him what how i learned how to do that he thought i just came up with it thinking on my feet.

    T-Totally off the toggle topic here; but was just wondering in light of the recent happenings in W. Virginia.. How many people caught the recent rain water or used a dehumidifier to collect water from air, and then filtered or chem treated to make it potable. Sorry for the interuption of topic, but I didn't know where else to include :/

    • @CPLBSS88
      @CPLBSS88 10 років тому

      Humans have been killing animals for centuries... way before we had all these fancy razor tips. What do you think? OBVIOUSLY a sharper tip is going to yield a quicker and cleaner kill but it does not HAVE to be razor sharp to kill. As long as your bow is powerful enough to push that arrow fast enough to make it overcome the resistance of the flesh/bone, to a lethal depth, then that is all that matters. Everything else is just extra - up and to the point of it being moot.

    • @rogersmt
      @rogersmt 10 років тому +1

      Doesn't have to be but you owe it to the animal to have the broadhead as sharp as possible to get a clean ethical kill. Sharpening mine tonight for a hunt tomorrow. Good luck.
