I definitely agree that comparing games in a similar genre gets tiring. After a certain point it feels like everyone is trying to defend their own bias towards a game but why cant everybody love whatever they want without having for it to be called a rip off/bad :"D

Genshin was called "zelda copy" and i agree 100% back then' but for me when i started the game it's so much better and suit my preference. Copying can be alright if done well tbh. But if we're being honest genshin concept isn't a first, open world games have been here for awhile. Personally I think genshin is great in it's vibrate colors and wuthering waves is beautiful in it's more dulled colors. They both have different aesthetics that are both equally good to me.
I've already played pgr (same developers as wuthering waves) and it's gorgeous imho.
I will say tho I see more people insulting genshin's designs bc wuthering waves beta? I'm not sure what use for a game in development that's not released yet- but I feel like it's rude to the people who made the designs (assuming that designers and the directors are separate) but yeah that's my opinion even tho it's half-assed
Edit: ok so I'd like to add more to this because I read other comments and they had some good points plus when I was writing this I was in a big hurry.
I mostly think it's fine to like both games and enjoy both in my opinion no need to put them both into some competition.
While yes, speaking truthfully competition is great but if constantly done the person is going to end up making other people and things constantly compete
Which is a problem in the entertainment industry because it can tire out those you look up to or a big fan of.
Now back to a point that I DEFINITELY messed up badly in a way
The insults thrown at genshin's world and design.
Keep in mind any big company or team we'll have a director who approves and disapproves of certain things (and obviously leads the team)
So when throwing insults at least don't be too harsh with them because at that end of the day the person who worked on is a human not a robot
And even if the director's choice might've been bad, still be respectful because someone worked on this.

It’s inspired by lots of things. Wuthering waves includes dodging, flipping, double jump, and running on walls. They have absorbing echoes rather than artifacts. Everything is basically different. There are probably 100s of games that have the same gacha, building, and character designs. Genshin set a standard just because it’s a good game, but not everything has to compare to it. Genshin isn’t original, and neither is Wuthering waves. So hate on both, not just Wuthering waves.

Wuthering Waves didn't even bother to change the UI elements and placements or Graphics. It is just straight up copy with extra features. It depends on who you ask. There are so many genres that are not going to make a much money as a game like Genshin. The soulslike series of games for example are not even close. But, in no way would anyone say to make those games "better" they should be more like Genshin.
Sometimes you just serve a niche and are successful just in that venture. Even Genshin would do "better" if it were more like Candy Crush or Honor of Kings. It would be far more profitable.

    • @nottyseel949
      @nottyseel949 3 місяці тому +2

@@CaelusXFirefly69 Popularity and success aren't really directly proportional. Genshin is wildly popular, but its profit per player is astronomically low compared to the rest of the industry leaders. Even compared to PGR, but definitely compared to HSR or Nikke. From a business perspective it's not just revenue but the effort and cost necessary to make that revenue and Genshin is one of the highest costs but lowest yearly revenue per player.
From the company standpoint, success is not really convincing a lot of people to play the game but convincing people the game is worth money. While PGR serves an extremely small group, that group on average massively spends on the game compared to the average Genshin player. HI3 is about the same as PGR and HSR is a little higher, while Nikke clears everything.
Hopefully, though, all games don't just become Nikkes just because it's generally the least effort for the most profit. Not saying that Nikke is low quality, simply that it costs less to produce than a complex 3D combat system, and oceans less than a complex 3D world.

  • @dustinabigan2776

Honestly I feel like the word "copying" is being used too liberally. Just like with other games, Genshin can't claim ownership of a general game style or genre or specific mechanic. It's like if the original inventor of the gachapon or the first gacha game decided to start suing gacha games left right and center for copying the idea of gacha.
I don't have plans of playing the game, but I do hope at some point a Genshin competitor actually comes out and competes over several years. A lot of people love to talk up the idea that Genshin being on its own is something that's always good. In reality, having a monopoly on a certain genre pushes developers to become complacent and there would be a lack of any real improvements because you're the only game that way anyway. I used to play World of Tanks Blitz, and I'd imagine that's why I ultimately left the game: There just wasn't anything new because the overall game concept is on its own that people are forced to play said game or leave.
Competition is ultimately good for the consumer because these different games would start competing for player attention through different means like better rewards, mechanics, etc. I would imagine this is why HSR gives out more rewards than Genshin, and the bottom line (whether you think rewards are a metric for how good a game is) is that those rewards give players a better bottom line for the game and entice playtime from the players. If anything, I think having a game that directly competes with Genshin could push the game to listen more to their playerbase, more so than what they do now.

@@ComicCrossingAt this point Genshin’s UI is the standard. It’s simple and is easy to navigate so why would they change it up if it’s probably going to get criticized for being annoying. They can try to make it better but there’s only so much you can do if you want to keep it simple and clean. Look at Honkai Impact 3rd’s UI. It’s very complicated with many buttons and annoying to navigate for newer players that some new players even quit just bc of the UI. I for one took so long to get used to it that I barely played when I first started but now I understand it well and play everyday with no issues navigating it. I still think it needs some cleaning up and a lot less shops and currencies at the very least but I know the UI alone is why some people don’t give Honkai a chance. If people had to learn how to navigate WW’s UI if it were drastically different, they might turn away from the game.

I think it's easy to underestimate how much those UI elements etc have become genre defining - if you want to make a game in this sort of space hoyoverse UI is *the* standard players are used to and if you want to do something different you are going to need it to be better in some specific way to offset how much players bounce off the change.
It's an extreme example but imagine a game that swaps out WASD for something else - can be done of course but when it is done there's usually a good specific reason for it. If WW didn't have a reason to deviate it's understandable that they went with "industry standard"

a lot of people say its a genshin copy but also is the same crowd that says its not bright and colorful enough. its like they want it to be more similar to genshin and also not. we all need to remember that as artists and developers or creators we all take inspiration and use reference. and wuwa has definetly taken a lot of inspiration from genshin but made it their own with the dark atmosphere and duller colors which makes it stand out more. also its better to have more similar games so people can choose what fits for them the most. some like vibrance and happiness which genshin gives and some like dull and sci fi which wuwa gives, its better to have options than just to have one thing that has all the things you like but there is one part of it that takes away from a lot of the main points you like. its good that other companies take reference from genshin it means more for us people that love this type of anime game genre. They did not invent the side menu, the wheel menu, the anime artstyle, their puzzles, the camera mode, the weapon equip system, not even the piece equip system. They did three things that were unique from most other mixed audience gacha games, and they were:

    2. Releasing on a console as well as other platforms, and;
    3. Being open world.

The point of this saying isn’t to discourage artists but rather to remind them that original work means little. Its not about reinventing the wheel, its about adding to it. Copying does not show a “lack of creativity”. Most creatives start out by copying! Its a natural part of the process. There’s nothing wrong with continuing to build on what inspired you, in fact that IS creativity.

It's incredible how people take everything to the extreme, some despise it for copying, others complain about those who despise it for copying and despise Genshin Impact.
What is clear and absolutely objective, does not have to be a bad thing, is that this game is an almost absolute copy of Genshin Impact. Obviously it seeks to add new elements, but that does not mean that 90% of the game is the same as the Hoyoverse game.
It may be better than Genshin itself, but one thing does not take away from the other. I also find the comment "Well, Genshin is a copy of Zelda" ridiculous and stupid. Genshin Impact was clearly inspired by Zelda, but in this case it goes beyond inspiration.

FINALLY! An actual adult making actual fucking sense. HUGE part of GI community will play both games. As of late all you see is the big cc's going 'genshin killer' non-stop and creating all this negativity around GI just because of their own pent up anger towards GI, completely biased opinion and general dissatisfaction with the game. Which is neither here nor there. I'm someone who has played GI since launch, it was my intro to gaming in general and I''ve been playing a plethora of games ever since it's release. I don't plan on quitting a game just because another shows up, that's ridiculous, I plan on playing both, as a lot of people are going to, as gaming in general is meant to be enjoyed.

I think those who act like they don't see the blatant similarities are just coping to not feel like they are playing "the lesser game" (which is dumb since a game can be a "copy" and be better than the original ie. Riot games imo).

Its only when the subculture produces something beyond its established community and makes it into pop culture, doesn't the creative meta changes again. So those who are use to only playing games in the meta of popular culture triple AAA gaming, it'll feel original or new to them again.

I took an introductory course of video games studies for my VGS minor and I can say that MAJORITY of the games are definitely inspired by other older games. No matter what, you can’t really escape from it. Everything is going to be reused but the only difference is how developers approach it in a different perspective. If any of the older games, such as Pong and Pac-Man don’t exist, then there would be no games in the modern gaming. They need to exist to be able to learn and develop new unique games. The analogy near the end is a perfect description for that!
What I could say is that Wuthering Waves is not a copy of Genshin but rather an inspiration! The devs learned the mechanics and dynamics (for example) and simply approached them in a different light.

@@CaelusXFirefly69 You wrote half an essay without giving any real argument as 90% of the stuff you say is just wrong.
WuWa has an entirely diffrent gameplay cycle than Genshin.
Genshin doesnt have echos that fight with you, counters, perfect dodges, outro or intro abilities or Boss any form of challenging boss mechanics. So the gameplay is already different than Genshin by a long shot and you yourself even admit that gameplay = combat and exploration.
On top of that they made the exploration different and better allowing you to farm the open world for artifacts, make traversal more fun and less of a slog and make Coop an actually fun experience as you are able to do something together in the open world than just steal resources.
UI and Interface being "Genshin specific" is just stupid argument as Genshin themselves also copied somewhere else and why change something that already works ? It gives you familiarity and lets you easier start with playing the game than just sitting there trying to understand the UI.

This energy can either be directed into fanwork (fanfiction and art) or I can create new characters with similar dynamics and backstories, but they head down a different path. I haven't played wuthering waves, but I suspect this game is inspired by people who experienced Genshin, wishes some aspects were better, and took it into their own hands to attempt to make that vision a reality. 2. Design - honestly i have zero idea why u think its similar considering genshin player own opinion regarding WuWa design which fits more with WuWa world views in comparison with Hoyoverse aesthetic which emphasize on characterization into the design with oversaturation and decorations which not weird if this is genshin because most of their characters are like thats. WuWa approach or KURO approach in their design is practicalities and moderns tradition for the characters. Kuro aesthetic is monochrome or desaturated as kuro is highly base of Nier series.
      3. Exploration - there's not much to say as it both open world but WuWa already make many improvements for travesty in the game which help exploration experience.
      4. Gameplay - now this make me curious if you actually knew how WuWa combat system because its crazy that u call it similar with genshin. Genshin is team composition as 90% of the prep is team building the combat itself didn't take much skills its heavily on elemental reaction which force many people to build character that they aren't interested. WuWa as it is now take more on player skill then character build as even end content can be clear IF u know what u doing and focus during the fight thats say there's still need for certain level of stats to clear the end game but those stat along didn't promise u victory in boss fight.

Idk why but WW reminds me so much of Paragon (which is a totally different game genre) lmao, maybe it's the graphics

Ik I'm late to watching your video dish it's bc I'm somewhere new but I get what your saying, it's like if I take the same wook and materials the original artist used on this one thing but I change it to my perspective it's not copying it's just inspiration. Not taking the same idea from them just the things they used in your own way

My view is Genshin getting competition is a good thing. Just hope it isnt like tower of fantasy and ultimately cash grab with low value.
Anywho, i think the UI cpuld use some work, look at other similar generes and take more inspiration from other places and add its own feel it its UI.
I wish it good luck, and hope ill be able to enjoy its story and world building because thats what i love in games.

In general, it’s not a gambling game like Genshin, i’m litearlly forced to play the game, meanwhile : having 3 five star characters in wuthering waves on the first day, which make it enjoyable, not tiring. THEY LISTEN TO THEIR COMMUNITY WHICH SO MUCH BETTER

Everything is a remix. There is no such thing as truly original. Everything is inspired by something that came before. I find the discourse about how "X copied Y is bad" so trite because they usually don't amount to anything meaningful. I'd rather hear people talk about how "The way X used this same thing from Y is..." because at least that way, people readily acknowledge that copying and getting inspired is a thing but instead of focusing on the fact that something was copied, they instead talk about how that copying was used whether it was for the better or for the worse.
Dismissively ignoring a thing's potential simply because people see it as a copy of something else on the surface is simply not the right way to think about things.

the dyslexic comment is accurate, i prefer the type letter style and it’s nice to see a game that isn’t super bright and has a new aesthetic to it~

so what are your arguments on the millions of copy-pasted games China has regularly released lately? Do you dare to call them "having their own uniqueness" despite clearly blatantly copying other games in the market? I have seen a lot of UA-camrs slamming on these games but then here we are, you telling us that there's no such thing as originality and there's actually originality at the same time.

I personally like WuWa a lot more as it does everything what I wanted Genshin to do over the 3 years. Good and challenging boss fights, make exploration more fun and less tedious (like running and wall climbing and that everything uses stamina is shit, Content to play in general, more resin BETTER GACHA etc.
Genshin will be dropped by me when WuWa launches as it does everything I wanted Genshin to do and more.
I am also tired of Genshin defenders sucking the glizzy and hating on WuWa and say that its worse than Genshin but cant even provide any good arguments for their thesis.
