    As a bartender I really appreciate you using molasses and demura sugar to make brown sugar simple syrup. This is the base simple syrup for my bourbon drinks. When the syrup is still hot, I pour half of it into dehydrated cherries. I strain the cherries and have two types of simple syrup to work with. The steeped cherries goes perfectly with smoked manhattans.

    Used to work at Starbucks and I’ve had this drink several times. Tried to make it at home with all the “at home brown sugar syrup” dupes and it never tasted right. This one is amazing. The best suggestion was using the molasses and sugar instead of using the brown sugar you buy in store. You get much more of that molasses flavor and not so much of the sweet sugary vanilla flavor.

    Hi! Sbux barista trainer here! The "point" of these shaken espresso drinks is technically the foam that shaking the espresso creates, and while it does settle pretty quickly, the reason we don't strain it is so that foam holds up longer.

    • @AngelicaMorais
      @AngelicaMorais 3 роки тому +12

      Yes exactly. I think the store that they got it from actually strained it a little bit, because usually you don’t get that much oat milk in there nor have super little space after the foam goes down. I’m a little confused about how they did it lol. I love their version of the shaken espresso tho, much better quality hahahaah

    In Indonesia this is called "Kopi Susu"/coffee with milk and brwon sugar. It is the most well known coffee and there's a lot of franchises all around Indonesia sells this type of drink, this is the most simple one all you need a Brown Sugar that have been melted and become liquid, milk (you can use full cream/fresh milk), ice cube, and also espresso. What makes each franchises difference is the ratio, there is one with lot of espresso/milk/the brown sugar. Cheers Morgan, love your videos that detailed!

    There's actually not much brown sugar syrup in the drink. Starbucks uses "half pumps" for the brown sugar syrup so the 3 pumps are really 1 and a half of a regular syrup bottle pump. There isn't a thick syrup at the bottom, its mostly just espresso since the oat milk isn't shaken with the drink.

      This isn't a new drink. Mostly just the oat milk part is new to Starbucks. I've been drinking the shaken espresso drink for about 12 years now. The original version I had heard of the the in store version of the Starbucks doubleshot which came out when I worked there in '09ish. Most underrated and under-priced drink they had until it got replaced with this.
      They had the Starbucks doubleshot (which is also shaken) on their menu since then which I loved because it was the cheapest way to get my daily 6 shot drink for only $4.75 I would get a0 venti doubleshot (came with 5 already) with an extra shot. Then change the classic syrup to French vanilla or the thick holiday ones when available.
      The new shaken brown sugar oat is the same drink but me expensive, different default syrup, different milk, and 1 less shot (hate it!).
      Thankfully I got an espresso machine for my home a year ago. I also have Oatley and a bunch of syrups and flavorings. 6 shots shaken with ice, syrups and sugars in feeling that day, oat milk on top. That's my daily so I love this slight variation/ step up.
      As, for espresso beans I use a creamy Italian toast cake trombetta gold. Goes great on this recipe. To shake I do the syrup, then 6 shots, then ice in a mason jar. Then screw on the lid and give 10+ heavy shakes. Then top with oat milk = perfection

And shake. A lot.... pour it out and it had an awesome foam on it, pour a small amount of half and half on top, and serve without a lid. Your supposed to get that foam mustache. Totally dig the cat bowl.
    This is for those who don't know the various grades of molasses. Blackstrap molasses, the grade used here, is the most "pure" form of molasses, essentially what molasses is if you wring as much sugar out of it as possible. It will give you the most bang for your buck in terms of flavor, and it is indeed a ton of flavor-- too intense for me straight up. A lot of cooking recipes call for regular (sweet) molasses, so if you only have blackstrap on hand, add a little sugar.
    Since I'm a lazy git, I probably would just chuck the sugar and molasses in the pot with the water. But if you make your own brown sugar, you have options like cookies (and cookies made with homemade brown sugar are AMAZING).
    I usually don't drink Starbuck's featured coffees (expensive and often disappointing), but I'll give this a try. Alas, I don't have an espresso machine, but I might try it with some Aeropress or moka coffee as soon as I master the moka pot. It won't be the same, but it's cheaper than getting an espresso machine.

I wish is how we made it. That looked very visually appealing. Also, your choice is coffee beans is better. Since what I've experienced shaken the blonde espresso at Starbucks. Is that it does not shake all too well. It doesn't foam right like the signature blend of espresso we use there. Again, I like your drink more, it's very visually appealing. In México cafe de olla is, of course, Ceylon cinnamon, sugar (a lot) and coffee. The coffee pot with the cinnamon stick and sugar simmers for a long time, essentially burning the coffee, so, not something you would want to do if using an artisanal quality roast coffee. And so, I determined that it is better to add the cinnamon flavor with an eye dropper and LorAnn Oils Cinnamon Oil, available at Michaels Hobby Stores. So that is my recommendation if you are using a good quality coffee for this drink. If using Community or a grocery store coffee it isn’t a big deal and I’d say go with the cinnamon stick. Living in Houston we have some fantastic grocery stores catering to the Hispanic market and Ceylon cinnamon is super available.

    Which was the brand of oat milk that was used for this drink? Do you think that the vanilla added to the oat milk helped get that texture that helps the oat milk float atop the espresso base? I’m having some challenges with my nano foam lithium trying to reach that fluffy cold foam consistency

    I made a sort of brown sugar paste from homemade brown sugar (been making my own for about 5 years) with cinnamon and vanilla and 3 shots of espresso... Shook it all up in a Mason jar with ice, poured it over more ice, then added in the milk. It was pretty good. Kind of like a double shot over ice like I used to get, except with brown sugar, cinnamon, and oat milk.

      I have to agree, I tried it when it came out and because I thought it would be really good I was really excited! What I usually do is try the drink first, and if I like it, I then make it at home. Unfortunately I was very disappointed, because I ended up not drinking it from how bad it was wasting my money, but now I’m thinking that it was just the barista that made it bad (because of all the raving reviews it’s had) and I’ll give it one more try at a different location, see if I like it then

    • @ianl3350
      @ianl3350 3 роки тому +7

      @@MIMITAS29 a ton of baristas make this drink wrong unfortunately. We don’t get training on each new drink that comes out and a lot of people don’t take the time to read the drink cards for the new ones- people forget the cinnamon and blonde shots, and put wayyy too much milk in all the time. Also because our espresso machines are semi-automatic and designed for speed you do lose consistency with the quality of the shots being pulled. Starbucks is a great employer for the most part but I definitely won’t deny that home made/local coffee has way more to offer in terms of richness and consistency.

    It's actually supposed to be more like cold bar pumps, which is half. Tall: 1 pump, G: 2, V: 3. But most baristas may not notice this in the recipe card, so they will come out sweeter than they're supposed to lol But! The blonde espresso shots are meant to make it sweet, too.

    I love shaken espresso drinks and make them all the time at home. I personally think they're more closer to an iced Americano, in that you're adding more water to it by shaking the espresso in ice and letting some of that melt in, then just finishing it off with a splash of milk.

    I make a very similar thing at home. Sometimes my second cup of coffee takes a while to get finished. It gets cold. So I make it an iced coffee. Costco’s oat milk is AMAZING, very sweet and creamy. I use the brown sugar syrup I use for boba. Also I absolutely hate those cobbler shakers. The plastic ones at Sbux suck, too. I use a Boston shaker instead. They don’t get stuck and they’re way better at sealing

    A tip from a mixologist, try to use clear ice, it melts slower and doesn’t add a lot of dilution when you’re shaking it or when you serve it in the glass, some ice machines sell small clear ice cubes you just have to notice which ones, not like gas station type of ice. Trust me ;) haha

    If the syrup is super thick, a dry shake might help incorporate the molasses syrup and coffee. A dry shake is with out ice ( common cocktail practice for honey and honey syrups). Then add ice and shake again to chill.
