This is part of the reason why I never tried to work retail. I've heard way too many stories about employees getting in trouble and even fired for trying to stop a theft. It is a damned if I do or don't situation since they are going to pin the blame on you. The food business isn't exactly a luxury either since I have had to pay the restaurant when customers would skip out on the check. Yes, the server pays the bill when someone skips out or can't pay...
+Storm haywire yeah serving was worse then GameStop ever was. But I made way better money serving. Nothing like getting yelled at for the food taking to long ..... I forgot I cooked it!
Back Pocket Game Reviews I hate it when GameStop offers $6 for a game that they are going to resale for $55. They have become very greedy over the years. I understand they are a business and have to make money, but they are a rip off.
Michael Creech I had a shrink wrapped, never opened copy of mass effect 3 that I actually won in a slim Jim contest but I didn't want it. I took it to GameStop to trade it in when the used version was still $55, and they offered me $3. it kinda pissed me off. another time my friend traded in his 360. it was a modern warfare 3 special edition. the cashier wouldn't let him trade it at first because she thought the paint job on it was damage on the console (it was painted to look burned and war scarred). it was also programmed to make special noises for the power on and disc tray. she thought it was a problem with the sound system. because of all this she only offered $30 because she was "feeling generous".
Back Pocket Game Reviews yeah because he took it to another GameStop and got $70. I've had a lot of issues with that lady there though. She doesn't just get annoyed if you don't preorder, SHE GETS PISSED. He whole demeanor changes from "how can I help you" to "what do you want"
When I worked at Blockbuster it was illegal (against store policy) to have only one person working the only time it was done was by the store manager at slow hours in the morning and it was against the rules then which is why only the store manager would do it.
jordan rausch well at my gamestop i went to ask about a pokemon card code, and they tould me to preorder the game and what it included, to get the card, and if i was sure, then asked me again to get the gamestop card and finally asked me to preorder the game once again. i said i came for a card just a card...
It really depends on the location and manager. The gamestop near me used to be great. The guys ask if you need to renew your card once. Also no ads playing in the store. Those guys got fired. Now ads play at way too high volume all the time and a cute girl cons nerds into renewing their card and pre ordering. Nothing wrong with an attractive girl, but obviously she was hired to improve sales by objectifying women.
Preston Wells Well technically anybody can steal. The follow-up to that action is of course the company attempting to figure out who you are and press charges accordingly through means of video surveillance and employee description if necessary.
The only thing I like about GameStop is that the employees often give me FREE posters, and there are even times when they even give me posters that you can only receive if you preorder certain games. Yet, I don't even have to preorder them!
Yah I have a friend who knows all the GameStop employees (he was gonna apply there, but they stopped offering jobs to people under 18, probably because of internal theft issues) and they'll sometimes give him like 20 free posters when they're throwing them out. It's pretty funny actually
About that #7 part. I once walked into a GameStop with a crap-ton of Amiibo behind the counter. A few rare ones too. I asked the guy if I could buy them and he's like "Uhh, no. We're shipping them back to our warehouse to be distributed to other GameStops." Like, what? Your company will literally go out of their way to waste money shipping product from one store to another and THEN resell them? Why not just sell them now?
Back Pocket Game Reviews yeah i can see why they do it. there are two GameStops in the area I live in that are less than a mile from each other, I'm not even kidding.
+Akira Kamisaru Same, you'll notice too on Amazon the games are cheaper. I saw Far Cry 4 for like $40 at Wal-Mart and on Amazon it was like $19.99 lol.
Good luck with that, they move it to field destroy. Meaning that that will completely and utterly render it unplayable before tossing it to the dumpster.
TMoney9961 I've heard of it happening before. Then again, the last time I heard of it was during the ps2's lifetime. Makes sense if they did that to stop people from raiding their trash.
MultiTelan Some stores don't do it, which is against company policy, and could get almost everyone in the store fired. honestly, the best thing you should be able to find in a GS dumpster, is a bit of marketing, poster, standies, ect. Even then, it's still illegal to get into those dumpsters.
Actually Dumpster diving is not illegal. By law once an item is thrown out it becomes the public domain meaning anyone can legally take it as their own. You will mostly get charged with trespassing though since most dumpsters are in restricted zones and out of bounds to the general populace or even locked behind gates and fences. Trespassing = bad. Being a bin scab = OK
pauly202 trespassing and if the dumpster has a lock on it, that will be more charges. Even having worked at Gamestop, I still don't understand why people are so petty to go dumpster diving. Have some fucking respect for yourself. I don't think people.understand that you can walk in and ask if there's and marketing that they are going to throw away. A lot of the time they will just give it to you.
+Austin Moller It's not simple if you want to keep a job. Quitting a bunch of retail jobs will damage your career, and not just in retail. Stupid comment.
+George Ephrem I don't have the answer to this. But my guess would be kids don't always use deodorant because their parents havent sat down to tell them about puberty
Yeah, a few months ago I was at gamestop with my brother and this 7yr old kid walks up with gta 5 in his hand with his mom and the guy at the counter warns them but the mom still buys it.
+eggsamillion TeamBloxer happens all the time. You really start to loose faith in parents working there. More so when they drop the kid off at the store like I'm a baby sitter.
eggsamillion and? If the kid can handle it an is monitored while he's playing.(so he doesn't see or do the naughty stuff) what's the issue. My son plays it but just drives the cars and does the racing.
It's really not bad at all. I've been working for Gamestop on and off for years as a holiday rehire. A lot of the stuff he says is true, but it really depends on the store and the managers. I have not had any problems over the years. plus, almost all of this is pretty standard in every single retail job ever. So, it's nothing different from working anywhere else.
I would say the kids an trashing the store and the parents not doing anything to stop them. A large portion of the people coming in will treat you like they own you. I remember a kid working at GameStop stole a gameboy advanced game. Then had a friend come in to sell it. He lost his job for 65 cents
ProGamer lol bro you probably make less than 30 thousand.Retail you can make great money. It depends on the Job kiddo. You definitely aren't making any money with that degree if you are saying retail you won't make money lmfaoooo
for me the worst part about working at gamestop is the nappy ass kids. kid: MOM MOM I want DOOM! me: sorry kid that's an R rated game. lady/mom ugh does it look like I care what game he wants. That's just normal day at gamestop. but holidays....oh boy
You said R rated game because you're a fucking moron and know nothing about the things you talk about. This guy corrects you and you immediately try to attack him and get personal based on his channel. What the fuck is wrong with you?
Scout_ VI Whoops, I accidentally liked the wrong comment. I mistook Denis Shrestha for you. Oh well. But yeah, some people are just looking to gnash their teeth at other people over the dumbest stuff, because of whatever insecurity they have. Fuck em.
"Is GTAV acceptable for my child" WAS BY FAR my favorite question when working at gamestop. Mainly because youd see the kid trying to say its ok for atleast 30 mintues. Then Id respond with "How old is timmy here? ...Oh well only if you want your kid to be subjected to cursing, blood, torture, prostitution and the most controversial game of its time" Then smile at the kid giving him a wink as the mother begins to scream at her kid yanking them out of the store by their arm.
+Hell6hound right it's like parents just don't understand. Even after I would say what all the bad stuff was they still got it for their kid. Then came back and blamed me.
I dont think I ever had a hard time with parents. I wasnt there long enough though, just as a filler spot before leaving for the military. I worked in a mall, store was super small so I think people didnt want to be in there longer than they had to because of how cramped it was. Theft was a hard one to deal with though. First couple of weeks I get an email from my district manage with a photo of a guy we needed to keep an eye out for and refuse service to. I didnt really think anything of it but not 5 minutes later he came in wanting to trade in unopened items he had apparently stolen from another store.
Worst part about working (and shopping) at GameStop? They severely decrease the amount of $$ on buybacks vs what they sell for! I remember selling back a PS3 game that had came out not even 2 weeks before (it was a crappy and very short game, as I found out) and all I got back for it was $8...$8!?!? I understand for years GameStop was the only store that would buy back a game, so of course they would do what they want, but that just pissed me off that they would be so cheap...now I just go digital, so just like what Netflix did to Blockbuster, watch GameStop go outta business soon!!
Sarcasm was in my post. Of course their empty. From my time buying any including used games were always in a locked drawer behind the counter. I don't know about y'all but I think if I'm going to risk jail...I'm not robbing a game store. I'm going for brinks trucks
I randomly found this video and since I watched this one I have watched about 11 other videos lol. It's funny hearing about your experiences as I have heard similar things from friends. Great work with what you have done so far! I would definitely watch you do let's plays of video games to get your opinion. Also you got another subscriber from this video! 👍🏻
Back Pocket Game Reviews that's fantastic! There are a few youtubers I watch all the time and since 2013 the two of them went from 50k to 450,000. It's incredible to see how youtube brings people together.
even when there are 2 employes in store it's still ridiculously difficult to get all the tasks done. GameStop corporate has no concept of how the stores actually run from day to day. Been there since 2009 as a part timer, and the amount of crap And tasks they add year after year is freaking disgusting. Dont forget the pay is shit compared to other Boutique style retail stores.
+Stoney Shibu their is no where to move up after SM. Unless he is becoming a District manager which I doubt because they just let a bunch go, so they could cut back all the DMs and condense the districts
Eh, I mean a lot of your video covers the basic rules of retail. I worked at GameStop as a store manager for one of the busiest stores in the country, I think we were top five, definitely top ten (out of some 7000 stores mind you). Yeah it did suck, I was overworked and underpaid, we had to deal with very frequent regional and VP visits since we were such a busy store. Paul Raines and Tony Bartel showed up a few times a year. Our store had the RD Jason Sapp (whom manages like 6 states worth of stores) and his boss George (national manager) coming in three times a month, when other stores had him coming once a year. I had GAs quitting left and right because they couldn't handle the amount of crowd volume we had, all the go backs, ridiculous amounts of filing, etc. They thought it would be easy. My three SGAs took it like champs, they were store veterans and coped with the stress. I did go through three Assistant Managers (four if you include me before promotion), in the span of about seven months. The point is that while it is cake to work at some GameStops (I helped out at some where we literally sold like $100 of games a day vs. $100,000 CASH ONLY daily at my store on average, $250,000-$350,000 CASH ONLY during holiday season), there are stores where it is insanely stressful. Unfortunately the customers aren't really understanding and it is what it is. Look, it really all depends on how you run the store and how much support you have from your District Manager, that'll interpret the overall fluidity within the store. My store had no cameras, so shrink was a problem like it is in any store. The payroll and hours I got were shitty unless it was the holiday season, so I had to work extra doing counts and perpetuals while managing a team of 20, dealing with execs, etc. Those were unfortunately things my DM nor I could control, so it did suck. I did, however, have loads of support from him which did help facilitate the daily operations and sometimes payroll. Even though GameStop doesn't have independent stores owners, it almost seems like it because every store is different. Yes, I did get paid time off, paid sick days, health, dental, and medical insurance, bonuses, a free ps4 and xbox one when they launched, etc. No we do not get free games other than that, nor do we have secret info on what's coming out, we're just people doing retail jobs. Regardless, it was an experience I learned a ton from and I did appreciate it opening doors in management for me.
BrianShaggy074 I worked as a dishwasher for two years lol, first job. I worked 17 hours a day and I was lucky to get a 30 min break under those Greek people I worked for
cx same shit here lol i sleep like 5 hours a day but I'm a cook and where i work it be busy af since it's in like a place where there's a lot of stores but only restaurants there are McDonald's, some Mexican place and us
***** Is it your first job? And how busy is the store you're working in? Is it a high volume mall where tons of people go? Also, which state are you in? Entry level Gamestop jobs are almost guaranteed to pay minimum wage unless you have a great resume with previous and expert sales experience. The number of hours you get will depend on what the store gets allocated that week and on whether or not you meet your weekly sales quota of 15% for memberships, 15% for pre orders, and how accurate you work. I heard they've steered away from numbers now, not sure if that's true. If it's your first job, then don't expect much. Expect minimum wage, and no more than 10-15 hours until mid November up until mid January. Again, this all depends on how busy your store is.
Back Pocket Gamer I was a Store Manager for GameStop in the Orlando FL area for three years. When someone asked me what I knew about Cooking Mama, my immediate response without missing a beat would be "Cooking Mama's my JAM YO!" and guess what? I would then sell a copy of Cooking Mama lol
Back Pocket Gamer lol it's not like it was a COD fanboy that was asking me. It would usually be a parent looking for a good DS game for their daughter. Always try to meet the customers needs and help them take advantage of B2G1 free PO deals. They will thank you and always explain the survey if you are having a good interaction, short and sweet "just wanted to let you know, that it really helps us out to get a little feedback from our best customers, let us know if we are doing the right thing". That line got me an insane amount of surveys. I have tons and tons of advice if you're interested lol. I was pretty damn good at that job.
Another one to add is when a customer brings in a system that is infested with BUGS. I had never imagined this until I worked there but some one brought in a ps4 that smelled horrible in a bag. They set it on the counter and wanted to trade it. I opened the bag and my manager caught the smell. He told me to set it on the floor behind the counter cause he had a feeling he knew what it was. I set it down and began taking the cords to plug it up. And then I saw a roach on it. I popped open the top where the hard drive is located and I saw hundreds of alive roaches crawling all over the system. I'm not sure if the sight of it or telling the customer in a nice way that I can't take it while trying to avoid other customers from seeing or hearing about it is worse and we were killing roaches that had crawled out for the next few hours behind the counter while working
it's about freaking time someone stepped out and started talking about this stupid company! You failed to mention that they will fire you if you don't sell that stupid game informer magazine and preorders too. With this video, I bet you were fired huh?
***** I know that and I've seen them. They just weren't as in depth as this video by talking about numbers and corporate stuff. They only exercised their own disgust with their experience.
this wasn't very detailed. basically described regular retail crap. even got way to specific about your experience being everyone's experience. although you're probably right about district managers, you gave one example and called it fact
I worked at the place when it was Funcoland. You'd think it'd be fun, but hell no. They told us never sell any cheap games. We had drawers full of games waiting to be bought, but nope, no sell. They were so worried about commission numbers that i actually got fired for low numbers before the assistant manager that was stealing $100 outta the safe every week
I've been at GameStop for a year now and I wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way I did and experienced the same thing. And you were on point! Relating to your point about being alone as a manager, as a female I feel so unsafe being alone in the mornings. I have had plenty of people grab things right in front of me because they know I can't do anything; I've also had 50 year old men flirt and touch my arms when I'm alone. I love my coworkers so much, but it's hard to use that as the only reason why you stay with the company... GameStop is killing its good employees because all they care about is numbers and not making sure we're all taken care of and have a secure job. Thank you for making this!!
+Kyra Coffey I'm happy you liked the video. It seems a lot of employees and former feel the same way. I left for a better company and I hope you can do the same.
If you want to hate humanity for the rest of your life, just work in retail for at least a year. My first job was working at Walmart and I still hate people to this day.
The upper management can only be out of touch with their customers so long... eventually their customer base will become so depleted they'll go out of business. I feel bad for the store employees
I worked at gamestop for years. It was brutal. The customers just shit on you and you have NO help from your superiors. My biggest complaint was the parents that literally drop off their children and just leave thinking that we're good babysitters and can answer their every little question. Also you have to legit like attack every single customer that walks into the door, customer hates it, we hate it, but corporate loved it. Made everyone's life hell.
This all sounds just like working at the Home Depot. You've worked but you can't ask a gardener about building a home (play games but you don't know every game outside your demographic). We have little coverage and theft is definitely an issue. We throw barely damaged things like slightly torn packages because people won't buy it but the product it's 100% fine. Credit cards drives customer shopping rates. And it's all numbers in the end. Welcome to retail.
Worst thing about Gamestop. If you trade PS2 game in, they will take the game out and put in those stupid disk papers, and throw the case of that game away.
I'm surprised you never mentioned the pay. I worked at a gamestop in the Florida mall and I can tell you that out of all the jobs I worked at, it was by far my lowest paying job, ever.
I kind of understand their policy about not wanting you to stop them, because God knows they could be some psycho who'd try to fight you or pull out a weapon or something. But it does suck how you get punished for it.
its more so gamestop doesnt get sued. if you stop them by force while still in the store, they could say they werent going to steal it and that you assaulted them, and you cant leave the store for obvious reasons
I heard a story about a manager chuckling to himself as a customer kept coming in & stealing a bunch of gutted boxes, then the manager came back the next morning to open & found a garbage bag full of the empty boxes in front of the door.
yeah...gamestop is a good part-time job when going to school to help get gas in your car and if your a gamer it could also be a cool job to have. but if your looking to move up in life maybe get a house or a nice car i would find another job that pays better. yes i do like gamestop to "buy" but again unless i really had to i would never work there. lol same goes for Mcdonald's,taco bell,Walmart ect ect sorry guys.
+Johnie swaney It was ok. I left for a management spot at a much larger retailer. More pay, PTO and I get to take my lunch. I work a lot with PCs now which I like. I have my A+ and N+ certifications. But I loved working with games. Just didn't live that GameStop expects aggressive sales. No incentive to sell either seeing as they barely pay you a livable wage.
Good thing we have at least 3 people working at Gamestop here in Canada. Normally One working the cashier, other working up front or at the back and the other working around the store asking people for help and stacking games and things and keeping an eye on people
I used to work at a movie rental place (when they were still around) and I can relate to this. Customers always asking you about ever single movie. 90% of the time you were by yourself. Even on some holidays. So you were stuck behind the counter. Had no time to put away movies. So people would always ask if you can check the bin for certain movies even with a large line
I too have never had a problem with gamestop except when I bought 2 10$ league of legends cards and the price was 20$ + tax and I was like what the fuck is this bullshit tax, in other stores like Walmart they don't have tax on prepaid cards or game cards but fucking gamestop wants to be a greedy shit
Part of the reason I HATE going to gamestop is that whenever they ask if you want to preorder and you say no, they get such an attitude. If you decline anything they offer they seem to get really offended. Maybe it's just me but it happens at just about every gamestop i shop at.
I'm a 16 year old kid who loves gaming and wants to work there for 2 months over the summer. You brought up some great points about the worst parts of working there.
+Back Pocket Game Reviews Having heard this I have alot of respect to anyone who has to run any of these stores. Good luck this upcoming holiday season.
i worked at gamestop for 4yrs,my numbers was top in the district for subs & reserves too.My district & store managers played games, that was the stores conversations, but all said, this was one if my favorite jobs and i had quite a few.
I hate gamestop with a passion. Almost every experience I've had shopping there is bad. It's not all bad like the video makes it out to be, but 95% of gamestops are shit. If you find a good location with a decent manager, and cool people work there, you hit the jackpot! The gamestop in my town used to be great. It sucks asshole now, but it was a great place to shop before. Nerdy Asian guys (like myself) worked there. They would only ask you to renew your card once, if you say no they drop the subject. No ads playing in the store. The guy also replaced my non working used games even though I didn't buy the used game protection.
puttputt524 I know right, we used to have a bad store but it closed down. I have to drive farther to a different one, but the employees are really cool and aren't pushy.
Angel Flores they actually have A LOT of stuff out on the shelves. My GameStop has shirts and books/guides and the little bobble head toys (I forgot what those shits are called) and all sorts of figurines from all sorts of games and goodies, ranging from keychains to action figures to headphones and props. Some gamestops are crazy and some are very simple
Stealing pre-order money? What would make it easier to steal pre-order money than the rest that's in the register? The people get a receipt for the pre-order so it's no different than buying something. They don't hold everyones money until the product releases, that would be stupid because they would be having tens of thousands of dollars in store at all times.
Jman 1975 lmfao you can't steal money from a business period. Most business count the money they made throughout the day so it can be deposited at the bank. They also check to see if it's short as well. And most business also deduct pay from employees who they suspect that are stealing money from the business.
My most ridiculous incident with GameStop happened during the release of GTASA. I was 15 and under-aged at the time to buy the game but my mom went with me to pre-order it. That was fine, no biggie. Due to band practice I couldn't retrieve the game the day it came out but the next day after riding the train from school I walked 3/4 of a mile to get to this GameStop to simply pick up my game I had already pre-ordered and they had the nerve to give me a hard time because of my age! My name is on it, my money (my moms money) is on it, why tf can't I get MY reserved game?!?! I was about to lose my shit, you remember how big a deal San Andreas was! My friend already had it and was telling me about it! Luckily the manager walked out and recognized me from when we pre-ordered it and told the employee to give it to me, my mom was with me when I bought it. I would have been shitting bricks if I had to walk all the way back home without my GTASA that day!!!
Coming from a guy who worked at Best Buy during the holidays, I will say that those shifts go by the fastest...you're constantly moving, constantly having something to do...the shifts that take forever are the ones where the place is dead. You just sit there doing nothing for HOURS...
+Jake Fether oh for sure. Keep in mind though, it normally you and MAYBE another associate at GameStop. Making you an easy target to get robbed. Also making it insanely hard to stop theft
Back Pocket Game Reviews No, if anything it's sad. I actually liked my job and took it seriously. But they never and will continue to lose good employees because of there practices and policies. I used to work by myself for 6 hours with no break and had to lock the store to use the restroom... 😕
Back Pocket Game Reviews One time I wasn't wearing my "dress shoes" and the DM dropped by and was like where are your proper shoes? I had to get a pair of 6 inch heels left in my car and wear them for the rest of my shift because I wore sneakers... Ugh... So many things that aren't important were focused on
Back Pocket Game Reviews I buy all my games that I do buy from Walmart. I work for their optical division so I get a discount. I see Walmart with pre order cards now but no one pushes them. I sell my used games on eBay. I do remember when my town got a GameStop I was very excited and it just seems the company has changed over time. They severely tried to push that credit card on me. That thing is HORRIBLE. And they probably get a lot of 18 year olds who don't know any better.
Gray Kitten Today it's not terrible working there, I've been there 3 years and yes corporate reallyblows. My dm has literally never worked at Gamestop and she comes up with all these new ridiculous rules everyday but in store I always have fun. Most of the time you'll get pretty great customers and coworkers but he is right away the theft. It's like a 3rd world country, you turn around and everything's gone.
I don't know why parents have to be so stupid when buying games for their little monsters, the game says what bad stuff is in it on the rating. And if the game says rated M for mature then they should not buy it if they asking if it's inappropriate.
Justaburgscuzzin I'm mature, my parents knew that I could handle and understand violent games when I was just 10. I grew up playing CoD and the Elder Scrolls series. Just some kids don't deserve to play violent games because some get angry really easily and be annoying as hell online and learn to talk crappy. Also you don't know how mature I am, I grew up being the kid that the adults picked to lead some groups that were full of kids way older than me. I grew up with kids not wanting me to hang out with me because they felt like I was a adult hanging around them.
Your commentary is so cool, and entertaining. you just earned my sub I hope you remember me when you go big which I know you will go big good job and keep up the good work
I don't know anyone who liked working at GameStop, my sister worked there and hated it. She told me all the horror stories of working at a NYC location. Discounts are terrible, with NYC tax a game was basically the price with tax off. There is absolutely no benefit of working at GameStop listening to my sister's stories.
hahaha I got fired for internal theft. But it wasn't like stealing anything physical or money. I would just use my friends number if a customer didn't have a rewards card so he'd get the points. It's ok I only worked like once a week because my other job paid twice as much lol The job sucks but the coworkers were awesome!
One of the best thing about working at Gamestop has to be the feeling of having a little 8 year old come up and try to buy an M rated game, only to be told that he cant unless he has a parent buy it for him. Then having the parent come in and telling them about the game and they say absolutely not. i know, it may be sadistic, but it's kind of satisfying.
If kids were smart they would buy Xbox/PS4 cards instead of buying an M rated disk.
Gutsy Lol that's what I do
Gutsy thats what i do, can legally buy the disc, but i got the 500 gig HDD, and license transfer with my gf to save money.
In Germany they are M rated or in Germany you can First get them When you are 18
Gutsy lol that's what I do
Gutsy at my game stop here they treat the cards just like m rated games
This is part of the reason why I never tried to work retail. I've heard way too many stories about employees getting in trouble and even fired for trying to stop a theft. It is a damned if I do or don't situation since they are going to pin the blame on you. +Craig Carver sometimes it's the employees trying to get stuff they want for cheap. Happens a lot.
Every time I walk into GameStop it feels like a funeral is taking place. Nobody wants to be in there.
yo you aren't lying lol
HighLevi Exactly
LOL William that was a 4oyr old Virgin.. He lives in his mommas basement
Well, it's not the coolest thing to be in a video game
When I worked at Blockbuster it was illegal (against store policy) to have only one person working the only time it was done was by the store manager at slow hours in the morning and it was against the rules then which is why only the store manager would do it.
And at my GameStop if I say no to them about Signing up for a card then they leave me alone.
jordan rausch well at my gamestop i went to ask about a pokemon card code, and they tould me to preorder the game and what it included, to get the card, and if i was sure, then asked me again to get the gamestop card and finally asked me to preorder the game once again. i said i came for a card just a card...
It really depends on the location and manager. The gamestop near me used to be great. The guys ask if you need to renew your card once. Also no ads playing in the store. Those guys got fired. Now ads play at way too high volume all the time and a cute girl cons nerds into renewing their card and pre ordering. Nothing wrong with an attractive girl, but obviously she was hired to improve sales by objectifying women.
puttputt524 so they can get fired? If they leave you alone like that?
+jordan rausch yeah all they want is numbers that's it
Ivan Garcia wow
so I can steal??? that's all I'm hearing
Preston Wells True. 😂😂
Preston Wells Well technically anybody can steal. The follow-up to that action is of course the company attempting to figure out who you are and press charges accordingly through means of video surveillance and employee description if necessary.
Just don't ever come back, steal from a GameStop in another state or town that you will never visit again or live in.
MAN_ON_WHEELZ lmfaoo 😂😂
That's what I herd
So basically every retail job.
HearinVoices yup I relate to this a lot and i worked at 7 eleven lol
You gotta work in retail at least once, but only once.
Yep. Pretty much. Grocery retail especially.
The only thing I like about GameStop is that the employees often give me FREE posters, and there are even times when they even give me posters that you can only receive if you preorder certain games. Yet, I don't even have to preorder them!
DisneylandFan 14 Do you just walk in and ask for free posters?
+Frostycody Yeah pretty much.
Hollow Fragment Hmm...interesting. I think I might try that sometime.
I preordered GTA5 at a different store and walk up to the line at Gamestop to get a poster for it.
We're shipping them back to our warehouse to be distributed to other GameStops."
Like, what? Your company will literally go out of their way to waste money shipping product from one store to another and THEN resell them? Why not just sell them now?
That literally makes no sense...
+Nate Kidren yeah that's how they do it
Back Pocket Game Reviews yeah i can see why they do it. there are two GameStops in the area I live in that are less than a mile from each other, I'm not even kidding.
I don't fuck with GameStop anymore I get my games on steam
+Brandon Barnes yeah I go to Best Buy and Amazon. I will buy PC games on steam
Brandon Barnes I Shop For My Games On Amazon.
Akira Kamisaru yeah I shop on amazon too
+Akira Kamisaru Same, you'll notice too on Amazon the games are cheaper. I saw Far Cry 4 for like $40 at Wal-Mart and on Amazon it was like $19.99 lol.
+Izaya Orihara Yeah everyone is cheaper then GameStop. Best buy will price match Amazon
Gamestop is the EA of gaming stores.
+faismasterx true statement. Did you know GameStop owns it's own publishing company. It's called Game Trust. No joke.
Back Pocket Game Reviews GOD help us all....
+faismasterx no one is safe from the chaos
yep
EA is lowkey better. I got BF4 and BFH with all DLC for only $10 from their sales
U forgot getting prank calls such ass The Black Hokage
Shinobi Editz or hoodgamingtv
Upcycle Shoes not gonna lie I have been around when this happens
Upcycle Shoes battletoads for gamecube is my favorite
Woah, hey guys, welcome to EB games.
Copy that
copy that
Copy that
copy that
ThisisPow copy that
Honestly working at GameStop just seems like crap, I just by virtual stuff and online downloads
Dude Not So Perfect I have started to buy my electronics on Amazon
"buy"
"20 bucks to the trash" to me translates to "20 bucks to the bed of my goddang truck on store closing".
Honestly if a mom walks in with a 14 year old and asks about gta I'd say yes. Be honest, we all played it as teenagers. But if they're 8 then fuck no.
+Frosted Wheat Thins yeah but GTA has more sexual nods now then when I was a kid. 14 Idc play what you want
Frosted Wheat Thins. Never played GTA.
why work where you are not even paid holiday pay, no overtime, corporate management don't know shit about games
+Antonio Arteaga that's why I no longer work there.
Not everyone has 1000 job options to choose from
+Don Figga very true. Lots of people with degrees work there ro
Someone has to watch that box
Antonio Arteaga be thankful to have a job instead of complaining.
Sounds like almost any retail store to me.
sounds better than most to be honest, lol
cheesesteakphilly I worked in retail one holiday season and to me it's my definition of hell. Special sales days are the worst.
Scotty Rob Fucking preach.
So don't work in retail during the holiday season. Simple.
+Austin Moller It's not simple if you want to keep a job. Quitting a bunch of retail jobs will damage your career, and not just in retail. Stupid comment.
why does a game stop always smell like dirty socks when you always first walk in?.
It does lool
+George Ephrem I don't have the answer to this. But my guess would be kids don't always use deodorant because their parents havent sat down to tell them about puberty
George Ephrem lol true
Workers are not at all hygienic. The manager at my gamestop is the typical fat "gamer girl" and she had the worst BO I've ever experienced.
Angel Ramos we must go to same gamestop as she also smelt like she had spunk in her knickers
I got that shirt when I worked at gamestop.
Sue Lightning because you're a grill
OfficialLeonLionHeart *girl
vBCL he actually meant grill
+vBCL yeah shes not a unicorn
So I can steal from GameStop anytime I want?
Creepy Changa sure dude, its not like youll get blamed
Creepy Changa _I mean yeah. People are encouraged to do it because they get away with it._
Creepy Changa God always watches.
Healing365 prove it
Creepy Changa I just did.
Do you report the parents to the Police when they do that?
Because you should, they're abandoning their children.
Edithae yup what if a 13 is 6ft tall lol
eggsamillion and? If the kid can handle it an is monitored while he's playing.(so he doesn't see or do the naughty stuff) what's the issue. My son plays it but just drives the cars and does the racing.
Thischannle sucks! 13 is old enough to Watch himself.
why are there so many doors in your room
+Flower Bones Closet, Bathroom and Exit.
selling REAL fake doors here!
Someone's gotta
Megan Magaña because it’s a DOORm
love your content man!! especially you gamestop videos as I'll be trying to apply to gamestop this summer!
cve8686 you just heard all the cons, far out weighing the pros, why..
How else are you suppose to buy shit?
Hey Vsauce! Can I get some cool spit facts? :D
Eric Flores hey Vsauce, Michael here. Here's why Gamestop employees are technically not actually people.
Pizaz0 lol
he Babysitting Mama 😂😂😂😂💀💀💥
NATHANIEL THOMAS what I love that Game! XD
Quake Law 😂😂😂😂😂
God that sounds so awful. Props to you man for putting up with that.
search up reviewtechusa gamestop war stories, it will make you hate that place for good
It's really not bad at all.
I would say
the kids an trashing the store and the parents not doing anything to stop them.
A large portion of the people coming in will treat you like they own you.
I remember a kid working at GameStop stole a gameboy advanced game. Then had a friend come in to sell it. He lost his job for 65 cents
Glidderbuns Preach it
Glidderbuns 😂😂😂😂😂
Simply Retail jobs sucks. Low pay, bad hours etc...Its for people who do not have degrees. GET AN EDUCATION! Dont be stuck working in retail
ProGamer lol bro you probably make less than 30 thousand.Retail you can make great money. It depends on the Job kiddo. You definitely aren't making any money with that degree if you are saying retail you won't make money lmfaoooo
Jonathan Franco I stopped reading after you said retail can make you great money
Jonathan Franco ooo somebody is triggered.
+Jonathan Franco
"great money" hahahhahahhahahahhahahhahahahhahahhahahhahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahha......
ProGamer or if you need easy extra money you dumbass smh...Kappa
for me the worst part about working at gamestop is the nappy ass kids.
kid: MOM MOM I want DOOM!
me: sorry kid that's an R rated game.
lady/mom ugh does it look like I care what game he wants.
That's just normal day at gamestop. but holidays....oh boy
Denis Shrestha well excuse for misspelling, Mr.perfect
Denis Shrestha Nice UA-cam channel what are you 10?
You said R rated game because you're a fucking moron and know nothing about the things you talk about. This guy corrects you and you immediately try to attack him and get personal based on his channel. What the fuck is wrong with you?
Nero Masselli thanks for covering me it's just a simple mistake that I put
+Hell6hound it was funny when they blamed the kid.
+Hell6hound yeah that's common
Worst part about working (and shopping) at GameStop? They severely decrease the amount of $$ on buybacks vs what they sell for! I remember selling back a PS3 game that had came out not even 2 weeks before (it was a crappy and very short game, as I found out) and all I got back for it was $8...$8!?!?
I understand for years GameStop was the only store that would buy back a game, so of course they would do what they want, but that just pissed me off that they would be so cheap...now I just go digital, so just like what Netflix did to Blockbuster, watch GameStop go outta business soon!!
Ryan Cochran Eww digital, I still prefer hard copies
was it Destiny?
was it Destiny?
Nerdasaurus Rex Destiny is good if you get the DLC lmao
Well yeah it is. But because they said short and crappy i assumed they meant Destiny.
Apparently there's free games. since the company won't stop it
but the cops will......
..but most of the time its a empty case with no game inside lol
+Showbiz / Absolution I state in a comment the we used to have used consoles out on the floor during the holidays. Piled up to direct the lines
+Sam Drinkwater I do a lot of game reviews you can check em out on here. I also live stream on Twitch but upload on here the next day
Back Pocket Game Reviews awesome! I will make sure to check those out too! Keep up the great work and before you know it your channel will grow!
+Sam Drinkwater dude I shot up from 1000 to 3000 in like 3 days
Back Pocket Game Reviews that's fantastic! There are a few youtubers I watch all the time and since 2013 the two of them went from 50k to 450,000. It's incredible to see how youtube brings people together.
+Sam Drinkwater sure is.
even when there are 2 employes in store it's still ridiculously difficult to get all the tasks done. GameStop corporate has no concept of how the stores actually run from day to day. Been there since 2009 as a part timer, and the amount of crap And tasks they add year after year is freaking disgusting. Dont forget the pay is shit compared to other Boutique style retail stores.
+Sebastian Smith sunday's with ad were always a nightmare
As a former employee i can 100% confirm ALL of these. You made me shudder a few times
rob smith same here bro....ughhh
+rob smith lol watch out you might have GameStop PTSD... Lol
Lol!! Honestly i was pretty bitter about it for awhile. I'm over it now but they're just really dishonest
This actually opened my eyes. i never knew working in EB GAMES could be so stressful. Retail is retail after all.
Newsflash: gamestop isn't a career job
its a job
not a career
career job..no
Can be, just not store level for sure.
well my gfs dad is the manager at game stop and still moving up,
(and giving me a job there)
so, yes. its a career. you fukin idiot.
Stoney Shibu and then she cheats and dumps you ;)
+Stoney Shibu their is no where to move up after SM.
Regardless, it was an experience I learned a ton from and I did appreciate it opening doors in management for me.
try working at a restaurant bro, then you'll know how it really feels to be underpaid and overworked
BrianShaggy074 I worked as a dishwasher for two years lol, first job. I worked 17 hours a day and I was lucky to get a 30 min break under those Greek people I worked for
cx same shit here lol i sleep like 5 hours a day but I'm a cook and where i work it be busy af since it's in like a place where there's a lot of stores but only restaurants there are McDonald's, some Mexican place and us
hey i heard you was underpaid does day pay avarege or well cause i might start working there this upcoming, Monday so i wanted to know is it worth.
10. Annoying little kids
+The Truth has been Determined to be a Lie I would feel bad if I sold that to someone.
Glad I got out of retail at a young age, and into IT. Retail is the worst and I don't miss it
+PatsNation yeah I do a but of both now.
Congrats gamestop seems like hell to work for
+PatsNation oh it was
PatsNation bruh, I'm in fast food and I'm dying to go to retail
Man I'm so lucky not having to ever work fast food. Started in retail thankfully
Apex Avatar i thought you meant like computer bugs lol
Will my xbox 360 have bugs then ?
joe mine did and I have a clean house
Ramens poodle noodle oh shit i havent cleaned mine in years but i also have a clean house
it's about freaking time someone stepped out and started talking about this stupid company! You failed to mention that they will fire you if you don't sell that stupid game informer magazine and preorders too. With this video, I bet you were fired huh?
What do you mean "about time"? Videos where people critizise Gamestop has been a thing for years.
+Martin Skjøtt sure has
***** I know that and I've seen them. They just weren't as in depth as this video by talking about numbers and corporate stuff. They only exercised their own disgust with their experience.
Hey, great content. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
this wasn't very detailed. basically described regular retail crap. even got way to specific about your experience being everyone's experience. although you're probably right about district managers, you gave one example and called it fact
So thats where all there GB/GBC/GBA Games went to!!!
they Killed those Pokemon
Went to Gamestop to buy a game, they had the game on the shelves but not the actual game 😑
Ro Jack
All stores do that.
Ro Jack they don't have the cds in there until you go up to the counter
Ro Jack Dumbass
Kenneth McCullers I know that. The game was out for months but when I went to the counter to get the game, they didn't have it
Damn that sucks I wanted to work over there one time but decided not too until I saw this video
The upper management can only be out of touch with their customers so long... eventually their customer base will become so depleted they'll go out of business. I feel bad for the store employees
wow! and I applied there multiple times, thank God they overlooked me. lmao
Corey Harris same bro i was gonna try again too 😰
ZerO ditch
Corey Harris you were blessed
Haha. I truly was. I have a new found respect for the employees there now, the ones I meet are cool anyway.
For what it's worth, I hope your interview goes in your favor. 😆🤘
Amazingly accurate, down to the DM not playing games.... it's been over 10 years since I quit this company, and they haven't changed at all.
+Bigz568 and they probably never will
I worked at gamestop for years.
+TheFlyinSquirrel I feel your pain buddy. I always tried my best to train our part timers. But when they work maybe a shift a week, it's kinda hard
Survivors haha
I worked at a gamestop in the Florida mall and I can tell you that out of all the jobs I worked at, it was by far my lowest paying job, ever.
how much is the pay?
Jpmcgee93 7 something.
is that the minimum wage on Florida because that's horrible
Jpmcgee93 pretty much.
did you like it there?
You don't even have to warn them. They can read the rating on the box.
+Larry Dilorenzo to bad they dont
Gerald Deliva Oh I know. But, that is why it is on the front of the case. They need to look at these things.
+Larry Dilorenzo I agree but most people have no idea what they even mean
+Gerald Deliva pretty much how it goes
Gerald Deliva I wonder if idiots of that caliber exist...
+Lieutenant BaconWaffles yeah, GameStop has some dumb crooks. But they also have a dumb LP team, so it eventually works out in the crooks favor.
yeah...gamestop is a good part-time job when going to school to help get gas in your car and if your a gamer it could also be a cool job to have. but if your looking to move up in life maybe get a house or a nice car i would find another job that pays better. yes i do like gamestop to "buy" but again unless i really had to i would never work there. lol same goes for Mcdonald's,taco bell,Walmart ect ect sorry guys.
+calitroit45 I was a supervisor there for just shy of a year. I should do a video about why i left.
Johnie swaney well for Walmart being a store manager or a assistant manager pays well
+Damian account 6 figures well
Good thing we have at least 3 people working at Gamestop here in Canada. Normally One working the cashier, other working up front or at the back and the other working around the store asking people for help and stacking games and things and keeping an eye on people
+LEGENDEY BIG BOSS nice name. I feel safe the La Le Li Le Lo will not infiltrate my channel with you here
Ad for babysitting mama was under the video! XD
+Barbossa my current manager where I work now used to manage a BlockBuster.
I too have never had a problem with gamestop except when I bought 2 10$ league of legends cards and the price was 20$ + tax and I was like what the fuck is this bullshit tax, in other stores like Walmart they don't have tax on prepaid cards or game cards but fucking gamestop wants to be a greedy shit
aaron galve actually some cards have tax, some doesnt. all depends.
aaron galve if u buy two then they're gonna tax u thats why I only buy a specific amount
ButtFace McGee Gaming league cards shouldn't though
Prepaid game cards aren't legally taxable.
That Mass Effect 3 shirt you have on was my favorite shirt I ever received in my years of working for GameStop!
+Justyn Lopez mine to. Other then my Halo Reach shirt
How many kids try to steal a PS4 or Xbox One after he said that he has to talk but not touch?
MLG Doge It's still illegal. They will still call the cops -_-
+owen west true
Part of the reason I HATE going to gamestop is that whenever they ask if you want to preorder and you say no, they get such an attitude. If you decline anything they offer they seem to get really offended. Maybe it's just me but it happens at just about every gamestop i shop at.
Michael Redd that's because they apparently need to get those to stay employed.
+Craig Carver Yes that is correct
Michael Redd Yeah that happens to me in all the gamestops I go to. xD
So basically Gamestop is just like every other retail store......
lmao right. All the problems with GameStop are literally problems with EVERY job. Most are not that bad.
I'm a 16 year old kid who loves gaming and wants to work there for 2 months over the summer. You brought up some great points about the worst parts of working there.
+soul crusher2078 I also did a best parts video. It's in my GameStop files play list
+Back Pocket Game Reviews
Having heard this I have alot of respect to anyone who has to run any of these stores.
The guy also replaced my non working used games even though I didn't buy the used game protection.
puttputt524 To be honest I actually like the ads playing in the store. Some of them, anyway.
puttputt524 I know right, we used to have a bad store but it closed down. I have to drive farther to a different one, but the employees are really cool and aren't pushy.
Rukia Kuchiki's Husbando but if you spend more than 10 minutes in the store its obvious its on a loop. I feel bad for people who work there.
got to appreciate u guys more . thanks
😂😂what they do, steal game cases😂😂😂
Angel Flores The shity knock off game controllers
Angel Flores they actually have A LOT of stuff out on the shelves. My GameStop has shirts and books/guides and the little bobble head toys (I forgot what those shits are called) and all sorts of figurines from all sorts of games and goodies, ranging from keychains to action figures to headphones and props. Some gamestops are crazy and some are very simple
+jamskaterpete That ain't shit I'm not 7 I don't want a shirt from a gaming store nor a bobble head
Brandon Jackson true.
jamskaterpete lol😂like I said steal what, should some shiit
Lmao there is a babysitting mama ad on this video
My city gamestops always have at least 2 people in it
Who is yelling in the background at 1:23 😂😂😂 I just can't I'm dead 😭💀✌🏻️
+CrownRoyale my kids
What do you mean by employee theft? Is it them stealing merchandise or stealing the pre-order money?
I promise yall don't listen. He LITERALLY TALKED FOR TWO MINUTES saying that employees or customers are stealing merchandise....
Jugalarbrysteele it was a joke
+8BitGamer4life Merchandise.
Might've missed it, but are employees allowed to take the "trash" stuff? Even if get it after work
Allowed no, do they yes.
Back Pocket Game Reviews Theoretically speaking, would it be a good idea, or legal, to dumpster dive Gamestops trash?
+Chiyel Fae It's illegal to dumpster dive in general. But depends on where and if the employees care.
I can see that. We didn't have that issue, due to a heavy amount of AP that entire weekend. And there was about 45-50 employees working, non AP haha.
+Jake Fether dude on average we would get 84 hours to run the store with
Is that outside of management? Because with the store manager and AM, That right there would be 80, wouldn't it?
+Jake Fether that's excluding the SM, but ASM third key and however many GAs split the rest of it. Keep in mind the third key and ASM are full time
I used to be an ASM at GS... I totally agree with you 😂
+Crystah da TV thanks, it's always nice to see I wasn't the only one with this experience there.
Back Pocket Game Reviews
No, if anything it's sad. I actually liked my job and took it seriously. But they never and will continue to lose good employees because of there practices and policies. I used to work by myself for 6 hours with no break and had to lock the store to use the restroom... 😕
+Crystah da TV same. Bathroom breaks always sucked. Because I knew if the DM dropped by I was gonna get written up for it.
Back Pocket Game Reviews
One time I wasn't wearing my "dress shoes" and the DM dropped by and was like where are your proper shoes? I had to get a pair of 6 inch heels left in my car and wear them for the rest of my shift because I wore sneakers... Ugh... So many things that aren't important were focused on
+Crystah da TV yeah. I never understood how corporate didn't see how they were causing a disconnect between them and their customer base.
i feel like this channel is going to grow rapidly
+Manny I sure hope so
I'm 100% against pre ordering games. I believe that's that's wrong with the game industry now. GameStop is helping ruin games.
euvi85 you can preorder games everywhere. Not just at GameStop.
Nathan G. True but they push it like crazy.
+euvi85 I agree they push everything
+Nathan G. But only GameStop really pushes them
Back Pocket Game Reviews I buy all my games that I do buy from Walmart.
I'll give you my subscribe, love the video man keep up the good work!!
+Ryan Chretien thanks buddy welcome to the community
Anyone hear that scream at 1:25 from someone😂
yea lol
Ethan Perez It's probably some kid he tied up in his basement
I used to think GameStop was my dream job but now not so much thanks for the video man.
About the theft*
and i use to think working at gamestop would be the coolest job...silly me.
Ray Espinoza same....
Ray Espinoza dude if it means standing there for no reason and getting paid id get the job why the hell not.
exactly
The hard part of the job is applying for it and actually getting called
Applied to gamestop 6 years ago, they still have my application on "hold".
Gamestop workers have all the right look for better job while working at GameStop. Surely no one should be working at GameStop until the age 65
+heyheyhe0011 our oldest manager in our district was in his 50s
I don't know why parents have to be so stupid when buying games for their little monsters, the game says what bad stuff is in it on the rating. And if the game says rated M for mature then they should not buy it if they asking if it's inappropriate.
Dragonborn. Exactly. Im 17( Mature i think its 16+) and i only have three rated Ms. Bayonetta 1 2 and Halo.
Dragonborn. Dunno why kids want gta at 8.
Captain Platapi Yeah I was a goodie goodie. At least I was a respectful, honest, cool, and mature guy to the adults and those above me.
There dumb going to theaters see
Movie to parents took there kids see deadpool on poster and theater ticket rated r
Your commentary is so cool, and entertaining. you just earned my sub I hope you remember me when you go big which I know you will go big good job and keep up the good work
Also probably hardcore gamers who know everything bugging the shit out of you to or ppl who never played a game asking a lot of questions?
I once interviewed at GameStop. They told me they couldn't afford to hire me because of all of the theft.
are you allowed to take any of the games they trash?
I highly doubt it.
I don't really see any logical reason not to
Phoenix Ward you can but most places scratch up the disk making it useless
Trashing games is the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Make a $1 bin. Problem solved. Gamers now pay to take your trash out.
I thought the same. Here in Germany, they have a shelf with old and used games, so that's something. You can get pretty neat stuff from there.
+CapTheBottle I bet NYC GameStop is a nightmare
hahaha I got fired for internal theft. But it wasn't like stealing anything physical or money. I would just use my friends number if a customer didn't have a rewards card so he'd get the points. It's ok I only worked like once a week because my other job paid twice as much lol The job sucks but the coworkers were awesome!
Genaro Quezada lmao
I was an assistant manager at GameStop and you're right about every one of these
+cameronwhitezel lol lots of former and current employees agree
so how do they hold you accountable for the theft?
One of the best thing about working at Gamestop has to be the feeling of having a little 8 year old come up and try to buy an M rated game, only to be told that he cant unless he has a parent buy it for him. Then having the parent come in and telling them about the game and they say absolutely not. i know, it may be sadistic, but it's kind of satisfying.
