That was awesome! I've read quite a few books on trees, which have arborists climbing trees. It's wonderful to actually see ya'll climbing the old growth Douglas Fir. Currently we have some protesters trying to save a tree from being cut down by developers in Seattle, WA. They have been sleeping in Luma, an old cedar's treetop, while down below we've been signing petitions to save it from being axed. I worked at a camp in the San Bernardino mountains (Alpine Camp in Twin Peaks) for almost 2 years facilitating a High Ropes course where you would climb up trees to go through each challenge.
One is called The Centurion (My favorite one) where you would climb up 100 feet and run on a platform to then jump to catch a trapeze, I loved doing that one as much as possible.
But I never knew you could climb up and sleep in the trees 300 feet up, that must have been really great fun, the sunset looked beautiful.
At Itasca State Park in northern Minnesota there is a very old fire observation tower. The observation deck is 100 feet above ground. There are stairs and handrails all the way up. As a firefighter I have been on 100 ft aerial ladders. No problem there. When I sleep at the campsite I’m on a closed cell foam pad and an air mattress. That’s my limit. Thank you very much. Your tree experience was fascinating. Remember- The guy in the movie said,”I’m getting too old for this s…….”
Meanwhile, stay north. The southern areas are getting baked currently.

Camper Rocks, you might want to suggest your friend uses a foot ascender with chicken loops. This adds a strap that goes around your ankle. If your top ascender fails you will fall inverted, it’s called a heel hang. Without the chicken loop you can have the foot attachments slide off and then it is all over. Nice adventure.

New sub watching for the first time and what a way to begin! This is such a beautiful adventure not many have the opportunity to do. I imagine Getting up the tree would be easier than taking a dump in a bucket being held by Leo. Definitely going to look into this next time I am on the west coast.

I really like these new discoveries of climbing trees .. reminds me of my youth climbing without any gear even watched my elder uncle climb trees in Oregon. Didn’t pay anyone , didn’t make a big deal out of it. Nows it’s a business, it’s all a business a waste of time .

Wow! I'm officially amazed that you did that. It looks hard and worthwhile, but you have to really trust in your training and your partners, and have some courage. I'm afraid if heights but I also like heights and within reason I have tried to push myself. I'm not sure I would want to spend the night up there, but I would definitely be up for the challenge of the climb with the right professional guidance. Well, on second thought, after that climb I would probably welcome a few hours of sleep in a hammock. I'm guessing this is a seasonal camp. Probably wouldn't want to do this in October. Well, you are now qualified to be a 'tree sitter protester' in a grove of old growth redwoods in CA. Its good to see your sister again and that she is up for another one of your adventures. No, I've never had the urge to want to sleep up in a tree, but that's just me. And I bet the air and oxygen level up high in that tree and forest was off the charts....take care and travel onward !!

@2:42 is that a Nova Scotia duck tolling golden retriever?! I adopted my dog from a shelter 8 years ago and she's probably half. A rare breed in the US! So smart and affectionate and loyal. A lot healthier than a standard golden retriever. More energy and rambunctiousness as seen here though.

I enjoyed watching this video even with weak legs. Also, I wondered when you would get a bug screen! It is a must for a van, i love the bug screen in my pleasure way.
