Aiptasia Eating Berghia Nudibranchs
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- We introduced Berghia nudibranchs into our systems to help mow down Aiptasia. The problem is they REALLY look like Montipora Eating Nudibranchs. If you’ve ever had to deal with Montipora Eating Nudibranchs, they are a pretty bad pest. I want to give you guys a visual reference of what these guys look like in comparison because one of these is a bad pest and the other is super helpful invert that usually costs $30 a piece.

The way the title is worded had me thinking “What? An aptasia actually ATE a berghia? This I’ve got to see.”
They work great! I used them. Just have to be patient. Soon you just forget about then then 2 months later, no more aiptasia period. Only down side is that once the food source is gone, the BH die .
I've heard that before. One day all the aiptasia are just gone.
love these guys takes a few weeks for them to multiply, but when they do they mow down aiptasia in a week or two its amazing!
Where do you personaly buy them from?
@@jarredlkling I bought some from www.saltyunderground.com/8-berghia-nudibranch
The down side is that when they finish eating them, they starve as thats all they eat, so be ready to pass them on to somebody else!
Thanks Than. I’ve always been a fan of BNs . I have introduced several into the 150 gal part of the system as my main problem is there. However, the Aiptasia are now present in my other two tanks in the system. That being said, I plan to farm the BN and feed them Aiptasia out of a special grow out tank.
Same here, I love these things and and I plan to breed them as well. They are currently ridding my 100 gallon of aiptasia. I wouldnt want to use anything else for aiptasia.
Wow. That Red Sea sail fin is gorgeous!
Absolutely shattered we can't get these in Australia
Nice, informative, and short, this was a perfect video.
I found it very difficult to differentiate berghia with similar (pest) nudibranchs.... are there any specific differentiators?
Great job letting us know. I know I’d freak out if I saw one of those on a new tidal garden frag and thought it’s a monti or zoa eater
Good video. Like the voiceovers
What do they eat if they won’t find Aptisiaa
love them
Where can i buy BN?
Anyone else think they had a speck on their screen at the beginning?
Would these attack any other anemones? What about attacking zoa's? or any other coral? leathers, scans, blasto, chalice, etc I'm looking for an aptasia rid problem I've been dosing atasia X keeping them at Bay but I guess it's a never ending process until I can find a solution, I almost got a peppermint shrimp, however I already have an emerald Crab as well as a harlequin to tackle my ascarina starfish problem and don't think the peppermint would get along with either of these Thanks in advance!
I know this was from a year ago but Berghia can't eat anything besides aiptasia anemones - they rely on aiptasia specific chemical cues to hunt. You could put a hungry Berghia in a tank with hundreds of any other type of anemone and any type of coral and they would just wander around looking for aiptasia till they died of starvation.
@@formallydehyde THANK YOU FOR THIS WONDERFUL RECOMMENDATION!! 😊👍
They work well Than but as you know you need to keep them alive after they get done eating all of the aptasia. They can be expensive..
Aptasia eating Berghia Nudibranchs work great! Unfortunately they will starve once it's gone! Check with your local shops and clubs for sharing!
Any updates?
Great info thanks buddy cheers mate 🍻👍
Than amazing 🤩, thank you , one question pls how do they reproduce? Are they different sex or same sax , even 1 can reproduce? Lay eggs ?
I desperately need these. What kind of success are you having with them?
Omg finally a source!!!! Hopefully.
I've had luck with file fish
I've never had one myself but I know some people who like them. Does yours eat coral?
@@tidalgardens I had one in the past and while small did good but as it grew it started eating coral...had to go.
I have been lucky with the few I have used not eating coral. In fact going to my store today for one.
I have a filefish that would never touch aiptasia at first, but then after I introduced a handful of peppermints, they started clearing out my aiptasia, and somehow that triggered the filefish to start eating it. I don't have any visible aiptasia anymore due to their combined efforts.
Would they be okay with Valentini puffer and wrasses ?
My wrasses eat them :( Never owned a puffer.
How much? I need some. I'll pick them up.
Do they eat anything other than Aiptasia?
Or rather, what is the carrying capacity of a given system? Do they die off once the Aiptasia is consumed, or will they persists as a multi-generation addition by consuming detritus or another food source? That can be the difference between a short term fix and a long term solution.
That said: thank you for the insight. I was just curious, I can't find a lot of information on these things. And they look like a great option if/when Aiptasia inevitably become a problem.
They will starve without Aiptasia to eat so people either ask for more Aiptasia from other hobbyists or they sell/trade/give away the nudibranchs.
Great video than but what happens when they eat all the aptaisia, will they offered food
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I used berghia and the aptasia did not come back until I added new rock
Thx
How rampant would you say aiptasia are in your systems at Tidal Gardens?
In tanks where there is a predator there are none, but if that predator dies they come back.
I’ve had issues keeping them alive, and guess I’m one of those rare cases where they have not worked out for me….
I really need it in my tank if you ship it to Saudi Arabia.
Will these guys get picked off by fish?
yes. wrasses love them
Very possible, but they come out mostly at night when fish predators are asleep. The other thing is unlike pest eggs, everything seems to like to eat these eggs.
I need some!!!!
Ok this is just plain true. 🙄
i need one asap!
Such beautiful and exotic fish!
Im so impressed
I want one
They need a constant source of aptasia.
They’re beautiful tho
Cry Havoc and let slip the Berghia of War
u only need 1 a tank.
Well if they weren't already difficult to find in stock with certain breeders they sure will be now. 🤣 🤦♂️
Hehe
