    Back when social graces meant something. I miss those days.

    I believe the older woman at Pres. Nixon's table is Alice Roosevelt Longworth who was the last surviving daughter of Pres. Teddy Roosevelt (in office 1901-1909). She was born in 1884 and was 87 when this state dinner occurred. She died at age 96.

      Hm don’t think so Alice looked straight out of the 1800s in the 70s lol. you can see photos of her at Tricia Nixon’s wedding. She attended with Paulina’s daughter Joanna

      @@Angelstar7774 Yes, as I look again, it's not Miss Roosevelt, and she would not be sitting at the head table next to Pres. Nixon at such a function. It's likely the wife of the Italian prime minister although she looks a little old to be his wife.

      JP M : I myself wouldn't be born for another 3 months and 21 days when this episode aired. However, I saw in the comments that while the episode itself aired on 3/02/ 71 that the actual state diner took place on 2/18/71. Were you already born at that moment or not????

    I bet there were no cheeseburgers served at this presidential event.

      The cheeseburgers were for the Clemson Tigers. They are not foreign digniaties and that was not a state dinner.

    March 2, 1971, was a Tuesday. Did 60 Minutes run a special episode that night?

      @Tubewings Рік тому +3

      No, the show aired on Tuesdays back then. It didn't air regularly on Sundays until the following season.

      Wendy Alexander Well the irretrievably ignorant will not learn. This old Persian proverb comes to mind: he who knows not and knows not that he knows not is a fool. He who knows not and knows that he knows not is a child, teach him. He who knows and knows not that he knows is asleep awaken him. And: he who knows and knows that he knows, is wise, follow him. Analyze the Presidents accordingly. Regards

      @@bobbywimsy6741 Sometime last year my Mother quoted the same proverb when talking about President Trump, an his actions. It seems to be the only conclusion that can be drawn with regards to him. The past week is the final proof.
