- I take you on a short tour of Jodrell Bank in Cheshire UK. It is the home of the famous 76 metre diameter radio telescope, which was designed by Sir Bernard Lovell and completed in 1957. The telescope famously tracked the Russian Sputnik satellite in October of that year.
Filmed early February 2023.

Looks like a nice place to visit! 😍
Very!
It's a great place to visit. We went there in 2021. We was lucky enough to be there at the right time when the telescope shifted position.
That place looks amazing, Stephen but as I have megalophobia I couldn't stand anywhere near those telescopes😱. Very interesting video👏💫🔭
I last visited Jodrell Bank about a year ago now and it never gets old!!
Went there a couple of times when I was in the cubs over 30 years ago. Love to go back and visit
Go to the BlueDot Festival. It's ace.

It's a long time since I was there. Thank you Stephen. You can see this for miles on a clear day. I have often looked for it from Tyldesley and also from the A6 and motorway at Over Hulton.
Thanks BooAnne.
Hi Steve. My Uncle always used to take me to Jodrell as a kid as a treat; you could see the dome in the distance from Macclesfield high up en-route in the car, a bit like seeing Blackpool Tower or The Boston Stump in the distance - really exciting. I was captivated by it - that magnificent piece of engineering set against that landscape. I was also a bit scared of it tbh; as a kid, it looked like a Zoid that could suddenly decide to walk if it wanted to! When they moved it around and the dome went forward everyone fell silent and watched in awe. I'd love to go again.
Thanks, pal. Great footage as always 👍.
Great story. Thanks for watching 🙏
Great vlog starman
Thanks kkrispy👍
Great field trip Stephen. I had no idea Lovell was the coordinator of the large array, cool stuff. BTW, that last building isn’t posh enough for the Council.
Ha!
Stephen. I live about 8 miles away from Jodrell. I remember going with the school about 40 years ago. They had a planetarium and things. You know that oval dish. They used to let you control that with a joystick. Then it gave you a punched out ribbon paper which you could rip off and take home. They don't let you do that anymore lol. Great Vlog. Apparently it was going to be scrapped. But the M.O.D saved it .To use for looking for E.T.
Thanks Richard.
Let's hope it's not the only bank that's too big to fail 🤔
We went Jodrell Bank on a school trip in the 80s. The planetarium was amazing such a shame it's gone now 🔭✨
Last time I was there was for the Halle Orchestra picnic. It was worth the price of the ticket just to hear the theme to Star Wars with laser projections on the dish and fireworks going off behind.
The BlueDot Festival is the only music festival I've ever been too. It's on again this year.
Went there two years ago the place is awesome it makes you realise just how small we really are in the vast universe just think that other planets somewhere out there with intelligent life
