This is episode 2 or 3 of the Sensational 13 weeks seriel of “Swara Raga Sudha” in DD during late 80s. Every week, the first 15 minutes discussion in my office will be about this seriel only (right from operators to officers). This ‘weekly once’ seriel had 13 episodes of 30 minutes durations. First half used to be our GuruDeva’s exposition and the second part contain Tamil cine songs in the same raga. With my limited memory, I try to recollect :- 1. Shanmukhapriya 2. Kharaharapriya 3. Thodi 4. Reethigoula 5. Kaanada 6. Mohanam 7. Aabogi 8. Ataana 9. Sudhdhadhanyaasi 10. Kalyani 11. Aanandhbhairavi 12. Charukesi 13. Gowrimanohari We used to pray against power cuts during the telecast timings !

I shouldn't be mean, but I can't but help imagining a sampradāyavādi singing this ... it would not be soft or தழுவிing* as BMK sings it. I can imagine those sangatis ... sung violently without any regard to the bhāva of the sāhitya. Perhaps, I am just a *leeeetttle* bit biased. Does it show? Vaguely? :) I recall at least three other examples (among many) of the தழுவிing lilt that BMK was so adept at: (1) viTanka tyāgarāja mohita... (in nīlotpalanāyiké), (2) at a slightly advanced sangati in the enunciation of "nī" in "nī nagumomu" (in the lovely abheri krti), and (3) sitayā saha samsthita (charanam) and raghu-rāma rāma (anupallavī) (in māmava paTTābhirāma). The svara, the sāhitya, and the voice modulation for the தழுவிing effect -- *only* BMK! * தழுவிing caressing; but somehow the the original tamizh word has more oomph than the English word "caressing"
Chandra Shekhar Balachandran Sir, bias vividly visible and rightly so as well..excellent examples given by you where in the maestro has caressed the sangatis and brought out the true bhAva of the composition. Super lucky are those who have accompanied BMK in the video, especially the kidos up front
