Koolaire ice machine making thick ice - intermittent water float issue

This Koolaire ice machine was making thick ice and the water was over flowing into the ice storage bin. Went through the troubleshooting process and found that the high water level float was not sensing the water level correctly. This was causing the water to over flow the water trough and water was flowing into the ice bin.
Fixed this issue by replacing the high water level float.

Did it have any loose grids? I ran into that earlier this week, and I cross hatched the ones sticking out a bit with a small flat head screwdriver as a temporary measure until we could replace the evaporater.

Evaporator looked good. I think the low ambient was the issue. I’ve never used that cross hatch method. I may have to try it out next time I have a bad evaporator.

@IceMachine411 yeah, I mean it's just a temporary measure until it's replaced, but it can be the difference between the ice hanging up and the machine going down on a long harvest, and it actually falling when it's supposed to. I just push the one that's sticking out back in and then put an x in about three or four places along that particular grid. I was on call last weekend and had to do it, so it does come in handy sometimes.

That's too close on that harvest time to safety time out. That's going to be an issue. Can u Adjust Safety time out to longer ? i'm not familiar with that machine yet. That's a Loooooooong Harvest. Most Machines i see Harvest in under 2 minutes. Even 15-20 year old machines.
1) i'd recommend Cleaning that machine with some ice machine cleaner.
2) Check the book on allowed ambient conditions. They may have to put up a couple fake walls to increase ambient surrounding machine. especially for night time or maybe just for night time.
a couple fake walls with doors with little vents in them.
