    Professor Tines, I knew early on that you’d still be dropping the occasional 4K vid years later… even when it seemed to kind of take a back seat… I knew because I too have one in my life.

    actually, pressing active on Q5 or Q6 sets the zero/start point while editing the sample/loop/region start/end point, so when you press active while the slider is totally down, you can only move the start point in a positive direction

    Ricky Tinez MPC videos are by far my favourite ones. Thanks for posting this! 🙂Question about the 4k - does it chop destructively or non-destructively?

    • @RickyTinez
      @RickyTinez  Рік тому +3

      Destructively. but it keeps the Original sample in the list incase you want to go back and edit it further. Once chopped it's new samples that can only be shortened not lengthened

    I’ve had 2 4000s in my day. I prefer the 2500 for the smaller footprint and still a classic MPC workflow but the actual sampling you can do on the 4000 is still Akai’s best sampler. Basically an ASR with MPC workflow. So good

    • @FaTTrAk
      @FaTTrAk 4 місяці тому

      💯 % and with the JJos on the 2500 it’s such a faster workflow. The sound of the asr and the 4k is the best for sure 🤙🏽.

    I really want a 4000 to complete my vintage MPC collection. I have the 3000 the 2000 XL and the 500. What you showed you can do with the Q links on the 4000 is crazy. That said I do love chopping samples on the 3000 by ear. It just works for my workflow but it's great to see the wav and how you can manipulate if fast on the 4000. Great video once again Ricky

    • @RickyTinez
      @RickyTinez  Рік тому +2

      If i started with the 3k i'd probably love the millisecond no transient chopping but the worst is spending 30 minutes to find out the sample does not work hahaha

    • @RoomAtTheTopStudio
      @RoomAtTheTopStudio Рік тому

      @@RickyTinez In the nine months I've had the 3k that's only happened once, fortunately. I love chopping on it. The button per function is what I love the most about it. I think the 4K has the same button per function and superior Q links from what I've seen in this video. If a 4K becomes available when I have the funds I'm getting it. The 3k is my current favorite though

    Just curious, why would you prefer an older MPC over a newer one? Is it more a nostalgia thing or do you think it is actually better than new ones? The MPC Live 2 was the first and only I have ever used (well, an Akai Force, also but that is a bit different and still a newer machine). It seems to me using an older one would be like preferring Ableton Live 8 over Ableton Live 11 since the software and capabilities are so critical.

    Hey Ricky. Have you ever used maschine and if so how do you rate the workflow against mpc? Also do you think the swing on maschine is the same/as good as the swing on mpc or the Roland 909?

    10:30 he figures out how a rate/level envelope works. It's a really really useful tool if used correctly far superior to a normal envelope in my mind, but often you only see them on gear from the 90's and early 2000's kinda a shame really. Also the beat was good, as usual. :D

    • @blkrbbt
      @blkrbbt Рік тому +1

      I'm trying to apply it to the Analog Heat mkII II... and I think if you add resonance to the filter envelope, you can mimic the same behavior in a more restricted way...
      Thanks for timestamping this and expalining!

    • @d.g.f.7056
      @d.g.f.7056 Рік тому

      @@blkrbbt the way he utilizes it in the video I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have much trouble creating a similar effect. Also on closer look it seems that the 4k's a/r envelope works far closer to a default ADSR. What I was more talking about is the six stage a/r envelopes which are separated into two attack, decay, and release stages all of them having their own rate and level parameters. Those types of envelopes, especially if loopable, are extremely powerful and can be used to really sculpt specific sounds...or just make really crazy ones.
