- This is a first video in a series to cover the VW auxiliary air heater installation on T5 and T6 according to the factory spec.
Parts required with part numbers will be covered in part 2.

Hi. You can find these kits on ebay. just type "vw t6 eberspacher" and filter for Used parts. Currently I see 2 complete kits and also several incomplete units that you could easily make complete by buying a few additional parts.
Part 2 will focus on all the parts needed for the build.

Hi from the U.K. we have an Eberspacher fitted in our T5 as an aftermarket kit it is not anything like as nice as your factory installation but it has been a game changer as far as allowing year round camping, I would thoroughly recommend anyone to make this addition to their camper van. Thanks for posting this was a most interesting video to me, have subbed 👍🏻🇬🇧

Very useful. I think you got lucky finding one of those used. From the ones I can find it looks cheaper to buy a new Airtop/Airtronic and fit it in a not so sexy, non-OEM way. Looking forward to part 2 though. This and the steering fluid video have been very useful.
Depends on where you are. In the EU the kits like mine are still easily accessible

@@busbits Hey! I couldn't find any way to contact you on your website, but I have found several for €600-800 on eBay. My T5.1 has the most basic comfort control module so I wonder if it will not be possible to retrofit the heater without changing that (expensive), that is at least the case with upgrading to cruise control and steering wheel buttons which I don't have (I have four wheel drive though, so that's nice).
However just finding the original air ducts and mounting would be ideal, then maybe I could get a used identical non-VW locked heater and use the regular Eberspacher controller.
I have a bit of time on my hands as I bought my T5.1 on auction sight unseen (lesson learned) and unknowingly bought an incredibly rusty example (Norwegian road salt), so I spent my entire summer vacation last year taking the doors off, grinding rust and painting inside the door shuts, now hopefully I can get the exterior painted this summer (Using bedliner). So I won't be getting in any trips this year either I think (car is not registered and needs some other things to get road legal again).

The BCM version is not relevant for the heater retrofit. Regular Eberspacher will cost more.

Thank you for the video - it is excellent. Would you please have the part numbers for the interior harness between the coolant and air heater? On the right side it would have the blue 10 way and in the left it would have the red 17 way. Also the harness up to the control panel. Many thanks in advance. Kevin
Awesome! I was looking for this exact information. I bought a Webasto Air Top 3500 for my transporter. I need to connect it to my california overhead display. I am now in the progress of figuring out the connectors I need to gather. Do you have any good source to buy the connectors from? Looking forward to part 2 of this video. Did you get VW oem webasto or the regular webasto?
@@busbits I got an original VW Webasto Air Top 3500 from also a Transporter California. I am in search of the 6-pin blue (T6Y) and 6-pin brown (T6Z) connector under the passenger seat which fit on the wiring harness of the car.
The Webasto Heater already has the correct connectors. I found the cables coming from the display to the blue and brown connector, only the connectors are missing in the car...
However I find them hard to find... Do you have any tips? Much appreciated :D
@@DanielvandenHoorn please post the part numbers from the plugs that are on the heater. The wiring diagram is different for early T5s.

A Very useful informative vid, i have a 2008 T5 with later 2012 Cali camper controller controlling all Cali fittings but no heater. Finally got around to fitting a heater & found a used Eber D3 + but has cut off plug, looking at the wiring i cannot see any fitting issues yet. I will need to purchase the 10 way plug and also the socket & pins I will also need dosing pump. Looking forward to your wiring vid as i was wondering why one of the cables from the heater goes to the vehicle diag plug which i am guessing is the OBD, is this just for fault code reading? Thankyou
Is your D3 VW OEM one or just the eberspacher generic model?
@busbits It is a OEM VW, it has came from a 2011 California. You may be worrying me now, do you think it will be ok
@tonywhitmore5274 unfortunately, it won't connect to an early T5. I mentioned about the compatibility (or lack of) in the video. You need a webasto 3500 vw oem unit and corresponding remote control for the headliner.
I've got all the part numbers for the heater and remote if you need them.
You could sell the current one on ebay and get the right one, probably without losing much in terms of money.

@busbits thanks for the reply, when I converted it I used a later camper controller a 7E7 prefix part number not the early 7H7. The Eber unit is from a 2011 my controller is 2012 if my memory is correct
@@tonywhitmore5274 Tony, I am not sure it will work but I also don't have experience with these camper controllers.
In a normal Highline setup the headliner controller from Eberspacher won't connect to the old BCM (2009 and older). The exchange protocols and canbus are different. The fan won't on an early T5.
I have been looking into how to start the VW Eberspacher without the OEM controller, I think there is a way how to do it through K-line but this is another matter to yours.

That service manual 406 you show at the one minute mark. I'm mostly curious about if i can take fuel from the Webasto engine heaters fuel line if I install an air heater for overnight camping. Because that's what I have to do, right? There's no way of turning the factory Webasto into a camper heater?

The plug part number is 4F0937743D but if you can't read a wiring diagram, this number is useless to you.
As I said, I plan to release a detailed video on electrics of this build but it will take couple of months because I have a large backlog of the content that I'd like to release before.

What was your reason for not wanting a autoterm?
Some say that they don't install Autoterm because of the Russian origin.
But for me there were other reasons:
1. Autoterm will never match the quality of Eberspacher or webasto.
2. For me most importantly - I wanted the original mounting position, original ducts and original remote control in the roof.
3. My almost new kit cost me less than a new autoterm.
@@busbits I'm just about to have a autoterm fitted, in the uk they seem to be the cheapest decent quality heater with a 3 year warranty, the others are way more expensive, didn't know they were Russian?

@@nickrackham1552 controller for what? Everything shown in the video is VW OEM parts except for 3d printed oem grille.
