- The newest, metallic offshoot of the medieval band CORVUS CORAX is a tough chunk!
Already with the beginning of the work on old Norse songs on the successful album “SVERKER” (2011) band founder Castus Karsten Liehm had planned to implement the material as a metal project. Since then it has been brewing in the heads of Castus and Norri, who are also the producers of all releases of the band.
This iron is now to be forged with heavy guitars - contributed by the absolute master among the axe swingers, Sami Yli-Sirniö (KREATOR, WALTARI) - and CORVUS CORAX drummer Norbert "Norri" Dreschers (Ex-DEPRESSIVE AGE) fat double bass blasts.
This is the birth of CORVUS CORAX ERA METALLUM!
This new project of CORVUS CORAX, who otherwise stand for the highest level of authentic medieval instruments, is walking far off the beaten path of common medieval rock. Massive thrash grenades instead of lively rock songs, Old Norse prophecies instead of German-language sing-along choruses, bagpipes weave atmospheric sounds instead of folkloristic melodies.
The result can be heard on the upcoming second single "YGGDRASILL" (released April 24, 2020), the lyrical depiction of the real self-sacrifice on the world ash in honor of Odin. Embedded with sawing guitar riffs and hypnotic flute and bagpipe sounds, Castus’ sonorous overtone singing tells us the victims experience being intoxicated by toadstools and henbane, hanging on the tree, bleeding and in trance, announcing the wisdom of the all-father Odin.
"YGGDRASILL" will appear on April 24th, 2020 on all streaming and download portals.
The corresponding album "CORVUS CORAX ERA METALLUM" will be released on September 4th, 2020.

I liked it... Really cool cinematography. It was a trip to watch, and the music was solid especially the slower parts where it almost sounded like throat singing. I have to say though compared to a lot of your earlier work I feel like it's lost something. There are lots and lots of really cool folk metal bands out there, and you certainly compare well to them but it's lost a lot of the really cool medieval feel of most of the rest of your music. It's what made you unique and I think it gets a bit muddled in this.
Not saying it isn't a cool experiment, and I'm still going to buy the album. I really, really liked the new version of Ragnarok. I think I'd just prefer if it stayed an experiment.
