Damn is such an amazing album if you listen from beginning to end you get a story of how Kendrick’s life came out but if you listen to it from the end to beginning you get a whole different story on how his life could’ve been.
Love your reactions, as a metalhead guitarist from Memphis, I respect KDOT so much; not just as a rapper but a musician. I grew up on 90s Memphis rap with my usual favorites: Pantera, Faith No More, Ozzy, Skinny Puppy, 80s pop, ect. KDOT switches his flows and melodies like no other. Even his voice effects (without much “effect”) remind me of Mike Patton at times. Shooo Shooo Shooo Have you watched any of his live performances from TPAB? His Austin City Limits performance is amazing. He channels James Brown while singing with no backing tracks to a live band. Not many are doing that anymore. “I” from Austin is amazing (also did it on SNL too). And the man censors himself on Primetime tv somehow too LOL
As a huge fan of many different genres of music, I love seeing other people branch out and explore different genres! Kendrick is my favorite artist of all time and your insight on his music from an outside perspective is so fascinating. Anywho, gonna go binge your content, loving this stuff!
Yup, that was the same Whitney blood walkin! 😂 So excited to see your review of GKMC. But for one offs...trust me - JID. But you really can't go wrong with J.Cole either. Okay, gotta go check out this Ren music suggestion. Peace ✌🏽
Two things. One, I actually look forward to your reactions. It's so authentic and fresh from a dude like me who is more on the rap side of life who listens to metal music whenever it pops up. Second, LUST is one of the best songs on damn. I can't wait till you get to duckworth. That aside, a lot of the things said in LUST is the hyperbole of black hood culture to a degree between men and woman. Lust being desire. Also. Yeah that Beat jumping from one headphone to another is... chefs kiss.
Madvilliany is a near perfect album for experimental hip hop instrumentals produced by Madlib and insane bars/rhyme schemes by MF DOOM. Definitely have to check that one out man !
My favorite reactions are metal-heads hearing rap/hip hop for the first time or vise versa and being enlightened. Your accent makes it all the more fun to watch! I can't experience this album again for the first time so watching others experience it is so great. I hope you do more Kendrick, he's worth it. The WHOLE discography. Love that you picked up on the reverse beat. K. Dot is the goat.
I love your reactions so much I’m a big Kendrick fan I love how authentic you are. Two artist I think you would appreciate: Cordae- on his 2019 album The lost boy his storytelling is soooooo good. Childish Gambino- he has a different sound that I think you would appreciate and the word play is insane. A few personal favs are freaks and geeks, 3005, Les, and IV. Sweatpants.
J Cole is a great shout. He’s not someone where it’s important to listen to his discography in any particular order. I will say, my favorites are 4 Your Eyez Only, and 2014 Forest Hills Drive. If you happen to listen to 4 Your Eyez Only, that might be one where it could be useful to read a brief explanation of the concept before you start. Otherwise you’ll be asking, “Is he talking about himself? Is he talking about [that person]?” Basically the entire album. He kind of shifts perspectives a lot lol
In terms of other artists, I feel like you'd really like artists like Denzel Curry (Taboo), Vince Staples (Summertime 06), Tyler the Creator (Flower Boy), and JID (Forever Story)
Suggestions, Schoolboy Q crashtalk or newest blue lips. J.Cole Forest Hill Dr. And yes that is the same girl in the Not Like Us video. Great reaction!!

so so very excited for this part, LUST is my long time favorite song from kendrick. looking for other artists, i highly recommend the discography of MF DOOM. he was one of the greatest lyricists ever in my not so humble opinion. Madvillany is a MUST! much love, mr dethrowe!!
Bro, if you love Kendrick Lamar, this in my opinion is a great list of similar rap artists. Similar in the sense that they consistently make albums that are lyrically, conceptually, and sonically impressive. 1. JID (he’s probably the most comparable to Kendrick, his voice sounds similar and he’s definitely inspired by him, but unique in his own way. Personally, I think JID is a better RAPPER than Kendrick. Not necessarily a better overall artist, I just mean pure technical rapping) 2. Denzel Curry (I think Denzel will be one of your personal favorites, just because he has metal influence in some of his albums. Definitely check out his cover of Bulls on Parade) 3. Vince Staples (Very underrated, consistently great projects. He makes street rap that’s brutally honest, not glorifying, but also not apologetic) 4. Tyler The Creator (Tyler, more than any other artist I’ve ever heard, exemplifies the concept of artistic growth. Literally every album he drops sounds like an evolution lyrically and production wise from the last, he just keeps getting better) 5. Danny Brown (Another underrated and very experimental artist. His album Atrocity Exhibition is one of the best albums of the past decade, period) These are probably my 5 favorite hip hop artists, other than Kendrick, Kanye, and Mac Miller.
Yo I love the Reggie Watts shout! Kendrick can get up there but he also pitches his voice up sometimes too (like the second voice reciting James 4:4 that sounded like a female voice). Recommendation for another review: something from “Awaken, My Love” by Childish Gambino, or the “This Is America” video if you haven’t seen that yet.
just got into your reactions a couple days ago and have been patiently waiting for another installment! i love hearing your perspective and seeing the things you’re enjoying about his work as compared to what you usually listen to. for the unedited version - i saw in a previous video that you had premium so maybe using YT music would be helpful? since it should show the regular unedited one. i also saw a couple people mention listening to GKMC and TPAB in one sitting but splitting up the videos - i would definitely recommend this if you have time. these albums are full stories and it may be harder to refer back to some things days later. but either way, can’t wait!
it's really hard not to recommend other kendrick albums with how good they are, which is bad because otherwise it can be overwhelming or seem overhyped when listening to it.
Maybe after the damn album before you check other Kendrick albums/mixtapes I’d recommend listening to his heart part series, those songs are great as well!
As someone who grew up on Limp Bizkit, my music taste split into both hiphop and metal (and went pretty extreme in either direction), I totally get that certain feeling you get when you first experienced such a well crafted album. I would love to see you react to Clipping. They're an experimental hiphop group (1 rapper, 2 producers) who have insane beats (even have noise passages), lyrics and flows (Daveed Diggs is also an actor). They have concept albums like Splendor & Misery (which was nominated for a Hugo literary award), which without spoiling it has an insane science fiction story. But they also have 2 Horror focused albums which are excellent. However they aren't as big, so checking out other albums like JID or MF DOOM might give you more exposure and views and I love those records as well so I'm all for that as well!
Please react to Teezo Touchdown's album 'How Do You Sleep At Night? With You' Some good songs to start with are Neighbourhood, Familiarity, I Don’t Think U C Me, Daddy Momma Drama, Mood Swings or Out Of Respect. My top 5 in order are: 1. Out of Respect 2. While their are other artist I wanna reccomend, You still have 3 other Kendrick albulms that you may enjoy even more. The others are way different from DAMN. and the only way to know is to listen. Definitely dont miss out on them because they are alot more intricate in lyrisme and the instruments being used for them are amazing.

If you love Music, you have to listen to his 'To Pimp a Butterfly' album. Its the best jazz album in decades. Also his major label debut 'Good Kid, M.A.A.D City' was pretty much universally acclaimed as an instant classic in hip-hop, and so many of those songs just get stuck in your head for life.
Kanye, it’s worth it. No matter the crazy stuff he be doing nowadays, I’d do “The College Dropout”, or “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” to start if you do eventually listen to him. But “YEEZUS” is his most experimental album
