Crafting a Victorian Inspired Lamp Shade

- Isn't there just something so magical about a Victorian lamp shade? While my creation is far from a tried and true Victorian masterpiece, but I wanted, in the most basic sense to capture a first timers try at something that felt elegant like that.
That being said, this was such a fun project! I definitely went into this a little bit blindly but think I have found a very deep love and appreciation for hand crafting lamp shades. I can safely say I will be doing this again!

The inspiration for todays project goes to master lamp shade crafter and absolute artist: @aceofshades
You can also use a fabric craft glue and hold things in place with clothes pins as they dry. I loved that you sewed your fabric on. If you purchase silk charmeuse, and sew it as a liner, shiny side in toward the lightbulb, it is very helpful , as far as reflecting the light, plus your lampshade will not be see through. Misting the fringe after everything is completed, straightens things out a bit too. Thank you for encouraging others to bring back an almost forgotten art.
I just got a lamp at a thrift store that has no shade and I am inspired to make something Victorian myself for it now! Ty for this amazing video!
This is like Christine McConnell 👍
I seriously thought you were Christine McConnell 😳 that is a compliment.
i love it! the lamp shade looks amazing and you explained everything very well. thanks for sharing with us!
Second music quite lovely
Very pretty indeed, very nice work done there Kaila,
Amazing
Turned out really beautiful! Great job ❤
If it’s like most of what is being made, the cast, sets, costuming and special effects will be amazing and the committee of writers will be so unimaginative, disjointed and heavily edited due to censorship that it will suck.
Love the way this turned out. As for the issue with the mic. No worries. It happens to all of us. Your video still came out great. Also love the bloopers at the end. Thanks for sharing. - Nancy ❤
Thank you so much! :) I am so glad to hear I'm not alone in my fumbles as I learn more about making this type of content. I'm so happy you enjoyed the episode! Enjoy your Sunday! :)
Love it. Great job!
I really enjoyed this video Kaila!!
You could add a white liner to the inside of the lamp and easily fix the translucency.
Fantastic !!! Its beeeautiful ! Translucence is nice, i lije that, you can get a dimmer lightbulb,, wonder if a yellow chandlier bulb would look good ? Lovin the bloopers ! Lol! You are a hoot :)
Beautiful ❤
Really beautiful, thanks for sharing - I'm going to try this myself today! Can I suggest no music when you are talking though as it's just too much when trying to concentrate on what you are saying.
I may have missed it, what did you use to wrap around the frame?
I too plan to join In your curious endeavor! You did absolutely amazing work for a 1st try, I only hope I can do the same!
And it doesn't hurt that you are stunning, Adorable, and hilarious! Thank you doll!
The lamp looks beautiful! I'm thinking of refurbishing a lamp myself. Is the green fabric silk? And what kind of bulb did you use with it?
where do u find more special shapes of lampshades, or how do u make them by urself, like the raw metal thingy haha?
Gorgeous
How do you know what type of fabric to use? Meaning weight/ gauge? etc.
It looks amazing x
Interesting video but fyi the background music is way too high.
Show us the version with no sound!!!
I noticed that you didn’t stitch into the binding the frame, is it better to go around it?
To be totally honest, since I was sort of feeling my way through this, I think it worked best for me in this scenario. But, I actually made a mental note for the next time I make a lampshade that I want to try to stitch into the binding throughout and see the difference. But for a first timer it worked a bit easier. I also think I need to invest in a curved needle and see if that also makes the process a bit more seamless (no pun intended ;-) ) I'll definitely be making another video for my second shade so I can compare and take notes.
@@kailamingram thanks, I'm just trying my first one. Look forward to your comparison :)
@@choppysocks Much luck to you and have fun ☺️ Let me know how it comes together!
Great video! New sub here!
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰
Music is annoying
:( talked too much and speeds through the important stuff 👎🏽
I'm sorry I couldn't watch this as much as I wanted due to the annoying background music
