Just heard these great speakers today at a hifi show. And wow, they sound incredible!! The build quality looks and feels top notch. You could definitely hear the bi-amps do their work, because the relatively small monitors produce a lot of music 'mass'. They had the floorstander Lumina V's next to them and most people in the room were confused about which of the two they were listening to.
I never heard Sonus Faber live before, but i'm instantly in love with this brand and am hoping to buy some in the near future.

Thanks for the review; are the woofers 4.5" or 5.25" per the link to specs? Also, where are the frequency details? $4K, folks should know those basics. Cheers
Good catch, the pre production specs we had showed a 4.5" woofer, but yes the current page shows 5.25", probably just a difference in the way they measured it. They quote 37-30K but there is not +/-

Excellent video, thanks. I'm shopping for a new system for mostly movies and occasional music. A pair of Duettos on stands plus a sub-roofer is $5k+. I like the simplicity. But can I get a better sound experience by spending my $5k on a more conventional 5.2.2 system? Thanks.

Could you use a hdmi splitter for the Omina and the Duetto’s with a sub and have a 3.1 system?
That's an interesting solution that we haven't tried but we do not think that will work properly.

Has anyone heard the phono preamp on these? You can spend this much on just a high-end preamp, so I wonder how good or bad the built-in one is. A buzzing cabinet in a speaker's not what I would call an ideal place to put a sensitive preamp, but if anyone would do it right these guys would.
It is equivilant to an entry level one from Pro-Ject, but its not the end all of phono preamps, more of an entry point.

What are the negatives?
Honestly, there really aren't many. Of course, we wish they were a little cheaper, but by no means do we think they aren't worth the money. Everything else was really pretty awesome when we did our testing!

… And, they are really cheap! … Only kidding. This effort by Sonus Faber defies the purpose; it's way more complicated, and more expensive to use than a dedicated integrated amp (with all connections and inputs) attached to passive speakers. Plus, the manual says Duettos have AB class amp for the tweeter, and D class amp powering the mid woofer. So the music we finally hear is literally aural patchwork without unity.
We think if you heard them you would change your opinion. Even with the different amps, having the system fully active makes a huge difference. We agree for the puriest, the integrated and passive speakers is likely the way to go, but there is a large new market of people who want to enjoy music with components that are beautiful and take up minimal space.
