- In 1961, at the beginning of the construction of the Wall, the war of ideologies between West and East was also being waged by the media. In the series "Reise ohne Passierschein" ("Journey without a Pass"), a West German television team visits the GDR and looks at the historical sights of the larger cities in the way capitalist visitors interpret them. The path through Greifswald, the former Hanseatic city, leads along the town hall, to the former houses of rich merchant families all around the market square, through ancient lanes to the Nikolaikirche church, the Marienkirche church to the edge of the city at the Fangenturm. Finally, there are impressions of Wieck, a fishing village that can be reached via a wooden drawbridge from Greifswald-Eldena. The historical black and white recordings show what the landmarks of Greifswald looked like in the early 1960s. The critical commentary by the West German television team reflects the West's view of the East.
