Pete - Every time I see you out with the manure spreader, I remember my Dad who was an old farm boy from the '20's and 30's. He liked the old joke about the manure spreader manufacturer who refused to stand behind his product.
Been watching you since 2020. Hoping to make the farm life leap in the next decade. I discovered you by looking up Dexters on you tube and got hooked. I hope to find someone like you one day that can teach me the little things that often go unnoticed about farm life. Keep up the dream sir, God bless
How do you not have your own TV show on PBS. You're so Humble. Your commentating is like a glass of warm milk (Never tried it honestly), you bring warmth and comfort. Keep it up! I Subscribed, that's for sure, allday yes sir!
Loved watching you and Hilarie out and about in the great weather on your beautiful farm. The cows are looking great, the chickens are growing and the hens are as beautiful as ever. Thank you for sharing your life.
Just wanted to say thank you Pete and Hillarie! - Your video cheered me up, thanks! Keep up the good work, and congratulations on hitting 109,000 subscribers!
My dad had an old tractor like that, the one with the 2 narrow front wheels. It was called a Hanomag, at the time I thought it was the funniest looking thing ever and the farm foreman looked soo official and important driving it. (60 years ago)
I worked on 2 of the 4 dairy farms on my street from 11 into my teen years, but I was only involved with milking cows, haying, silage, manure spreading & nipple-bucket feeding calves ( & some intimidation from the angus bull who protected & inseminated the herd ), but you seem to have a much fuller plate than I did, with all of the other animals that you manage. Congratulations to you two for all that you accomplish & creating content as well. I knew that I wasn't going to be a farmer for my career because I never saw one take a vacation!!!
I really love how the drone makes the helicopter view of the farm and the animals moving around! The way you talk us through your daily chores is really relaxing... Enjoy the weather Pete, 'cause it's way better than in the Netherlands right now.
Pete, another great video. You have a great sense of humor. Came across this joke on the internet and thought you'd like it: A carload of hunters, looking for a place to hunt, pulled into a farmers yard. The driver went up to the farmhouse to ask permission to hunt. The old farmer said, "Sure you can hunt, but would you do me a favor? That old mule standing over there is 20 years old and sick with cancer, but I don't have the heart to kill her. Would you do it for me?" The hunter said, "Sure," and headed for the car. While walking back, however, he decided to pull a trick on his hunting buddies. He got into the car and when they asked if the farmer had said OK, he said "No, we can't hunt here, but I'm going to teach that old cuss a lesson." With that, he rolled down his window, stuck his gun out and blasted the mule. As he exclaimed, "There, that will teach him!" a second shot rang out from the passenger side. And, one of his hunting buddies shouted, "I got the cow!"
I don’t know whether it’s all the clean country air or hard work but Hillary looks so young. She has the best kind of beauty….natural. You treat Mrs Hillary right Mr Pete. I can only guess at your ages but you also still look young, Pete! I so enjoy your channel. I lost my husband of 39 yrs to glioblastoma (brain cancer). We were truly a couple a lot like yourself and Hillary. Thanks for sharing your life with us. God bless. Oh, I intended to say, you did a beautiful job on the barn/garage. And I’m singing “I think your tractor’s sexy!” I really do love those tractors!!
Today while cleaning the chicken litter out of the coop. I kept thinking about the bank of compost that I would have next spring for my garden. Definitely made the task more enjoyable than normal you're wearing off on me Pete!!
It's nice to see both of you smile! Your jokes remind me of some teacher I had in the 6th grade... no one laughed at his jokes... I always hid my smile so the other kids wouldn't tease me:-)!
watching you move those chickens made me understand why my grandad had his chicken houses on skis and hooked them up to an old lawn tractor to pull them forward would really save the back
@@JustaFewAcresFarm I don't remember that happening tho i was a young pup at the time he would pull it slow plus it was a garden tractor struggling to pull the heavy 2x4 chicken wire and steel roofing house I doubt it was much faster than walking
Pete I just wanted to take time out and thank you for your videos they're entertaining and very encouraging at times like you may have read it another comment I left I recently had a heart attack at age 45 and I'm basically stuck either on my bed or in front of my computer because I'm trying to recover I just started walking 3 weeks ago on my own. I'm still connected to a catheter because I'm unable to function properly. I'm doing my best to return back to normal only 25% of my heart is working 75% of my heart is dead. I had a stent put in my main valve the one that called the Widowmaker because it was 100% clogged. A blood clot had went to my heart causing a pulmonary embolism. But through all that God has kept me. And I appreciate people like you you may not think that your videos reach very many but everything you do on the farm is fascinating and I thank you for taking your camera along and showing us what you do everyday and just being yourself and think your wife as well you folks are just down home people that I would love to meet I appreciate your videos and new people very much. You keep a young man that's going through a lot encouraged and keep a smile on my face thank you my friend.
I love your videos with and without the jokes. You are so right on with summer feeding though. In the time it took for Mom and Dad to feed all the stock, my brother and I had our 50 cows milked. It really took awhile but at least the barns weren't cleaned every day.
Pete, just found your channel. Great to listen to happy people describing what they enjoy. You left me just a bit more inspired to face the day. Oh, and you could be Jay Leno's younger brother. Thanks
Hi Pete! I'm new to your channel and I love it! You know, I love farming and when I was a boy, that's what I wanted to do. Or, be a pilot. Whenever I talked about my aspirations with my family, my older brother would tease the hell out of me. cupping his two hands together and saying, 'Plant my seeds!' It didn't really bother me too much, but I ended up being a pilot, first in the Air Force for 10 years and now with a major airline for the last 28 years. I have a little less than 3 years before mandatory retirement, and I'd like nothing more than to buy a few acres out in Montana or Idaho and grow hay. Thanks again for sharing your farming life with your family. You figured out the key to happiness!
Thank you Pete for that farm tour and showing us some of the daily responsibilities that you have. I miss the days of my youth when we go out to Uncle Bert's Barn at milking time & fill the feeder troughs and play with the cats in the barn.
I enjoyed this very much. Makes me a little envious though. Lotta work there, but worth it. I like your relationship to all members of the farm. One thing did surprise me, a little. When the spreader went past the camera,. I fully expected to see you shrug your shoulders and say "Manure happens!!" Thanks for taking me along today. Kinda nice to roam the farm. And not step in any bovine residue!! Although, as a kid, I NEVER had athletes foot fungus!! (no shoes in summer)
At 12:15, my head started hurting! Many many years ago, I welded up my own home-made metal fence driver, but instead of vertical handles, made the thing in a "T" shape. It only takes ONCE to discover why the handles are vertical! Love watching your videos. Enjoyed the auction video, too! Isn't it about time to dig a hole in the ground and build a walkin freezer?
That’s still a great idea, to use your drone as a bull hearder. Just try hanging a few strands of paper off it, that should freak the bull out enough to move his behind!
Thanks for sharing. It was nice to see what your chores are looking like and a bit of a day in the life. Why don't you grass finish? Dexters look like they would be good at it. We grass finish our lambs and culls. They come out nice and marbled. I think some customers chose our meat because it's grass finished.
Dexters are excellent when finished on grass, and that is how we’ve always raised them. Unfortunately we had an extremely dry summer last year, and poor forage impacted meat quality. We are trying adding some corn as an experiment with this batch to see how it affects flavor & tenderness.
@@JustaFewAcresFarmAh, I see. I wonder if you will notice a flavor difference. My grandpa was a conventional cattlemen and he said he wouldn't eat anything that hadn't been "cleaned out with corn". I generally look for grass fed meat if I buy any. I'm a bit north of you, and also struggled with last seasons drought. My sheep are super mobile though, and luckily I was able to bring my finishers to some extra grass on a customers farm in town as their tenant's cows broke out and walked home in late July. They had three cows on about 15 acres, and I was able to graze my finishing lambs until their date in early December. They finished well enough since the farm had been brush hogged after the spring flush and the day after we took them we got two feet of snow!
Hey Pete. Interested in hearing more about why you separate the bulls before calving season. Is it so you can time and schedule your breedings? Thanks!
I have raised all the same type of animals, when I was on my family’s farm & ranch in northeast Kansas. Do you clip wings & beaks? We did for turkeys on pasture. We also clipped eye teeth & tails on hogs, & dehorned the holstein dairy calves. Great operation you have there!
Winter time we couldn't spread in field ,dad loaded spreader back it up to pile ,my job in spring was forking from pile to spreader then spread on field ,dad had a diary farm in Clymer N Y , I was 15 at that moved to South carolina, no more farming
Gotta say, Pete, I sure got a smile from your trip home from the butcher. You've got a hula dancer on your dash that made me smile cause I AM from Hawaii and we just saw some hula dancers the other day on our trip with family up to the Polynesian Cultural Center here on Oahu. A day in the life of a farmer. Nice video Mr and Mrs Pete.
You have an awesome system for the size of farm you have. Maximize just about everything in your operation.
