  • Grow St. Johns Wort in your garden for medicine and its beautiful flowers. St. Johns wort grows in rich soils, blooms in June. Harvest the buds and blossoms of St. Johns Wort when they have a red color when squeezing the bud. Oil of St. Johns wort should be red in color for the best medicinal qualities.

    when you plant this from seed, does the seed need to be cold stratified?

      They do germinate much easier if they have been stratified. Although, in a pinch I've sowed the seed before being chilled and they did come up. They germination rate was lower and slower.

      The one here is hypericum perforatum.
