    Trevor please read this: you should change your gearbox oil sooner than later as maintenance, it's a wet clutch and there is plenty of clutch material coming off. Ask your mechanic to check it out and he should see how black it is, I have a short showing this on my channel. I change mine every 5-7 hours, because it costs about $1 in oil and I'm the mechanic so it's easy. I use Mobile motorcycle racing oil for wet clutch gearboxes.
    The Thor 202 puts out, but you got to deal with the drama.

    Trevor look into the smartcarb SC2. This will solve all the tuning issues you mentioned once sorted. I had one on my Thor 250. Flew anywhere from Moab at 4000ft to 10000ft in Colorado. No sweat.

    Raced a polini dirt bike when I was a kid
    In the mini class. Strong and fast motor but it was temperamental little thing. They definitely like to be ran rich!!

    She’s a good looking motor no doubt about it

    Yeah, I was excited to get a Polini 202 because of the higher power and lower consumption but the fact that you have to keep babying the temps just seems ridiculous to me... Guess I'll just keep my MY20 mostersince it's never let me down

      To be fair I don’t have to baby them but I choose to.

    This is the race engine of paramotors, why you got to invest in an EGT especially if you don't fly it at sea level. In addition, the EGT is as good as an oxygen sensor when you're near stoichiometric air fuel ratio AFR. In my independent professional testing, I found 700-705C was hovering around 14.7:1 AFR (lambda 1.0) with my sensor and location in the pipe. I run 93 octane with boostane (makes ~99 octane), klotz full synthetic, stabil marine.
    Check out my channel and shorts on tuning the Thor 202/303.

    those egt temps you say are pretty high. the alarm on my cosmos 300 goes of at 650 C. What is normal?

    Where do I get one of those engine-temp gauges? Brand/model?

      these are not the carburetor settings you are looking for😅

    Your transition mixture might be excessively lean if your exhaust temps are high at cruise.

    Bro
    670 C Temps
    670 c = 1238 F
    Aluminum melts at 1221 F

      I worked on an OEM turbo engine and it saw almost 900C EGTs. In a dynamometer testcell with unlimited cooling capacity. The Polini being water cooled with a huge gigantic fan moving air across the exterior of the engine and exhaust is why it can manage. Also 2 stroke pistons are cooled by the incoming air fuel charge, latent heat transfer of fuel evaporation off the piston.

      Congratulations, after flying many brands I feel this is the best engine. Try #112 mm and needle on clip #2.

    Just now realizing this? I put 300 hours on mine last year, to have someone tell me im unqualified to own the wing i needed. This set me back 1 week in my progression. All involved will pay for this.

    Im use to cars running around 200f
    Isnt that polini water cooled? Im confused. Water boils around 212

      These are exhaust gas temps not coolant.

    is there chance to have too much thrust? lets say a motor puts out 150kg thrust instead of 75kg. can the wing stall on a full throttle climb?

    • @12vibaba
      @12vibaba 3 місяці тому +1

      yes, but you hold the throttle.

      @@12vibabacheers mate for answer. so roll on to full power and wait for it to more or less finish swing and then slowly roll off power i guess?
      i am building a EPPG here with scary thrust. other pilots flew it and said they dont even dare to use full throttle because it feels like the wing is going so far behind them.

    lack of heat exchange oil or coolant or both, ether way need coolant or oil cooling getting more air over fluids FIXED, air coolers add weight but lack there or will decreases reliability. easy fix with weight...POWER is good..couple pounds but does it have provisions or do they need to be drilled and tapped?

    Strange that the engine temps are such a big deal with a liquid cooled engine. Especially strange that cruise power is a risky temp range.

    • @ctchuteflyer
      @ctchuteflyer 3 місяці тому

      Could it be tuned lean causing the "better fuel economy" and higher temps?

    • @TrevorSteele1
      @TrevorSteele1  3 місяці тому

      Nope it’s actually a hair rich. Temps are the exhaust fumes, not engine temps

      For sure it's not for everyone, it's like a crotch rocket race engine vs. reliable cruiser, like 202 vs. 185. I prefer the crotch rocket race engine ;) it's so fun and I'm the mechanic
