I never played this game, but this mode is cool. I wished they had sprites for all characters, like Daisy or Silver, as they should have created some if they couldn’t use, or didn’t have any.

All Mario character sprites are from the Original Super Mario Bros on the NES. Sonic and Dr. Eggman’s sprites are from Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis. Tails uses his sprites from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Sega Genesis. And Knuckles uses his sprites from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on the Sega Genesis.

I'll be real, this mode just seems like a cheap cashgrab that they decided to replace the ever-so-superior dream events with. I would have preferred if these events (besides 100m obviously) were made for the 2020 events, and their controls and whatnot would be the same (like the long jump angle, the grid based shooting, the long side-scrolling marathon race, etc.) except they would just be made 3D.
