STORYLINE:
Residential construction by the Russian military is in full swing in one of the most heavily bombed areas of the occupied Mariupol.
The first two buildings of the new complex are set to be completed by September with the construction site employing 2,080 workers and over 280 units of heavy machinery.

Unbelievable! In Sweden it would take 7-8 years to get permits and build a new appartment house to replace a old destroid one. To build 5 new ones in a couple of months just can't be done in EU or USA.

yep,Mariupol looks more and more like Crimea,Sevastopol,both located at very good climate zones,for Ukraine both cities were factories than poisoned the skies and all the money went to western Ukraine while the infrastructure was falling apart for 30 years,now it will be a touristy area with agriculture.Crimea is known for it's grapes/wine,Mariupol can grow a lot of different fruit too.I never understood why use these areas for factories when there's tens of cities like that in the north where you can't do any agriculture. These old factories in new territories retaken by Russia are useless both for world and Russia because they are at least 50 years behind the same metal factories that are built in Russia,not to forget the damage it does to the city and people that live in it,I watched a lot of interviews and how the city was before,pollution was the main issue,fog everyday,people who lived there their whole lives say how better it become when Azovstal and other factories were destroyed by fighting,for the first time the sky was clear blue for weeks and the air actually smells fresh. Economically wise agriculture and tourism is the best solution for Mariupol,Russians said they wont re-build destroyed factories either,they don't need them because Russia basically has 80% metal market in the world.While agriculturally wise Mariupol can export all over the world.If west doesn't want produce India and China are basically 10's of Europe's in population and world especially now needs food.Russia now exports 20% of worlds food,with new territories than can be as high as 30%.Once they retake Odessa they will basically have the water and cheap way to send food to Africa making them secure on cheap food ending western domination.

The Soviet Union (not just Russia, but whole Soviet Union) housing are built in Apartment, this because they priority on density and capacity (Social Realism Doctrine) than individual housing (Residential Urbanism). Most of this apartment are built by attaching Prefab Panels like Puzzle with plaster. That's why in Eastern Europe, its quite easy to make housing or repairing it (but well, not all eastern europe still doing this practice, Hungaria for example now more toward Residential Urbanism).
Its cheap but not very quality wise and pretty much all of it have "plain flavour", no exclusivity for ither social classes. But hey at least it fit people.
Interesting point about the housing philosophy. I just want to point out that large apartment complexes exist throughout the west as well. Additionally, I figure that apartments are much more efficient to heat in cold climates.

Apartment are more last option when no more spaces to use, this typically happens in big cities. Contrast to Social Realism where Apartment(or Commie Blocks) are almost sole option for city planning.

the city was still standing when Russians and Ukrainians were fighting in it,the destruction started once Ukrainians started retreating and shelling everything behind them,all civilians say this,I watched over 200 street interviews ever since,all say Ukrainians out of spite destroyed everything just so nothing would be left to Russians. And you can actually see video proof how from the western side and from azovstal the major destruction came from while the side from which Russians came there's minimal mostly bullet destruction. Also you can see how Ukrainians set fire on purpose in the buildings they were residing once they left so Russians couldn't take positions,that's why 60% of buildings show clear burning signs.Also all the tank bombing is from the Ukrainian side to which they retreated. Russians aren't just building new houses they are repairing majority of destroyed by checking if it can be repaired,if the main walls aren't affected everything else can be fixed,saving time,majority of buildings mostly have burn damage which can be repaired,all they need is to repair some walls,insulate them,fix the fire damage from the walls and replace windows and it can house the rest of population till they build enough new buildings in coming years. This has already been done,last week I watched a local video how these old repaired buildings will get heating(they already have water and electricity since summer) they installed these gas-fired water heaters which will work for this winter,1 such heater can basically heat 8~ 9 story buildings. You can see these heaters basically all over Mariupol so they wont freeze the winter.

100 thousand stayed and many of those need housing, plus the refugees from the city. Many of those refugees went to Russia. The reality is this area has a high ethnic Russian population. Crimea was never part of Ukraine until 1954 when the USSR attached it for administrative reasons. It was part of the Russia Empire since 1783. In 1897 over 33% pf the population was Russian. In 1785 the were 0 Ukrainians and 2.2% Russians. Turn off the news and read.

the logistics of construction and distance from the apartment block factories makes the progress too slow to build enough houses for all the displaced, so many displaced are relocated to apartments in Russia at least until the war is over when the reconstruction work can go on uninterrupted, but the apartments are indeed going to be occupied by the original residents of the city as far as what is publicly known.
