- Check out the trailer for the upcoming remaster of the 2002 squad-based third-person shooter survival horror video game developed by Night Dive Studios. The Thing: Remastered is a sequel to John Carpenter's classic 1982 horror film wherein Captain Blake of the United States Army Special Forces team is sent to the Antarctic outpost from the film to discover what happened to the research team while surviving against the titular shape-shifting alien. This was an awesome sci fi movie!
The original release of this game was CRIMINALLY underrated. Did everything other survival horror games were doing at the time but better imo. The squad mechanics alone were well ahead of their time and a fresh addition to the genre. CANNOT WAIT for this!

I'm surprised this game is getting a remaster, thought it was long forgotten. Used to play this back in the day and scared me as a kid. Imagine if this game got the dead space remake treatment, it would be amazing. The atmosphere, environments, creature designs, sound design etc but a remaster is better than nothing and I'm looking forward to it.
Loved this game as a kid,can't wait to play it again.

The second half of the game was so clearly rushed: by the final level, it had basically done away with most of what made it interesting in the first place.
My ex used to talk about this game a lot, saying she used to laugh maniacally while giving people guns and taking them away to make them paranoid
there is a chance they might have decided to make changes where necessary. Turok 2/3 had some issues that ND remedied in the remaster

This deserves a full remake, but I'm happy that we are getting anything at all. It's an underrated gem that went unnoticed.

Never! There's nothing so wrong with the original game that it needs to be completely discarded for an allegedly superior version. This perverse logic is what makes people think that a Silent Hill 2 remake is preferable over a remaster. It's an affront to videogame history and preservation.

For anyone who hasn't seen the movie this game is based on, it's one of the greatest sci-fi horror movies of all-time. Some might say even better than Alien.
Ironically, _The Thing_ (1982) was initially considered a flop when it was released in theaters . Over the years, it has now become a sci-fi horror masterpiece.

The Thing as not supported the concurrence (the case most similary was Last Action Hero he was considered a flop because Jurassic Park 1993 Came out 1 week before).

Did not expected this, for years i've been hoping this would be remastered! The tension in the darkness and freezing cold, the point when your comrade completely loosing it. Atmosphere was through the roof! So happy to get to play it again.

This game was a hell of an experience when it was released, unique even for its time; like much of John Carpenter's work.
The original film bombed at the time - people just weren't ready for how advanced it was at the time. The brilliance of it was recognised much later on. In fact the failure of it severely hindered his career.

The movie of The Thing as a kid horrified me. That scene where one of their crew runs off into the snow and they find out he’s ‘The Thing’, to find him sitting there all mutated and making some of the most horrifying eerie sounds will forever replay in my head…

No. The company you know as Atari was bought out long ago. The Atari of today simply rebranded themselves once they had the Atari name in their ownership because it was the more recognizable name. They have contributed almost nothing of value since.
Maybe a few things early on as publishers (Neverwinter Nights is a childhood favorite of mine), but they've butchered so much more since.
@Lucifronz TO be fair they also turned it around for themselves. Atari 50th anniversary collection, buying Nightive and Intellivision. They actually are working to release games again.

Incorrect. Your other firearms softened up Things, while your flamethrower was what finished them off. Moreover, the flamethrower was for the larger Things; smaller Things like headcrabs could be killed with gunfire.

Even though it isn't a "weapon", I'd argue that the most essential item in the game is the fire extinguisher.

YOOOO they even kept the camera angles by the look of it! If done right this could genuinely be an incredible remaster.
Could you imagine (Ive dreamt of this for a long time) a 4 Man co op, where you have to use prox chat... and if someone gets alone and does get eaten, they can become the thing... and work against you. Sort of like Among us. Which is where ive always said they got the idea from for Among us was The Thing.
The closest thing I’ve seen to this concept is the mimics in The Company, the AI for them was quite convincing too and it was always a terrifying moment when someone would talk to the mimic thinking it’s their friend, and hear their friend say on the radio “that’s not me”
