Bugs Bunny did it best back in 1946.
Yes he did
That was what immediately popped into my head when I read the title! Doubt anyone here under 50 even knows what we're talking about!
@@DavidDSimonI’ve seen it and I’m 23
Can't believe there's 4 others that's done it before
That was my thought! He’s the FIFTH to do it??? Haha
Not even the first Tiger to do it. Shane Halter did it in 2000. My tigers love a publicity stunt.
I believe Jose Oquendo and Bert Campaneris did it for St. Louis and Oakland, respectively
@@YourFreakinHero1 "my tigers" 😂😂😂😂
I can’t believe he was pitching in a 1 run game 😂

Years ago I watched Howie Clark (later to play for the Orioles and Blue Jays) do this with the AA Bowie Baysox. He finished on the mound and got one out before he was pulled from the game - we booed when they did that because we wanted him to finish the game.
Why I can understand the sentiment, it would have been better to take the high road and cheer him (which I'm guessing was the manager's intention for pulling him?).
Impressive, but I saw a documentary on a game where Bugs Bunny played all nine positions simultaneously.
That was based on a true story. Don't ever forget it, before they scrub me .
I feel like Oswaldo Cabrera on the Yankees would be the leading candidate for this. He played every position but catcher this year.
He is probably the only player that can field most positions at a league average level.
What holds him back is his medicore and inconsistent bat. But even then, there is a reason why he has played almost every game this post season. Boone knows that whoever he subs out, Cabrera can fill his spot on defense
Ohtani gonna be playing pitcher & catcher simultaneously next season! 🎯😉
My mind immediately went to him when thinking of who could do this
Nobody cares
Throwing to himself
If he throws an eephus high enough, he might just be able to do it!
FYI: It was the Tigers' next-to-last game of the season, and they had the worst record in baseball. The Twins had already clinched the last wild card spot and were six games behind the Yankees for the first WC position and 17 games behind the (then) Indians for the Central Division title. In other words, this was no more meaningful than a spring training game.
It is MORE meaningful than Spring Training because regular season game stats COUNT even when the game doesn't affect the team outcome.
@@1nm1chill, your comment is as meaningful here as it would be on a spring training video
@@Loachie90 If it was a Spring Training game it wouldn't be in the record books for being the 5th time it had occurred in MLB "history".
Yeah, I gave up on the video at the 20 second mark when they disclosed "...and while, yes, it certainly was a P.R. stunt..."; that's a big ol' asterisk.
Kiki Hernandez is a possibility
Kiki Do You Love Me 😆😆😃😃😃😃😆😆
Kinky Hernandez of course doing multiple positions at once 😂
Don Kelly for the tigers was also a super utility man, would play wherever Jimmy Smokes would put him!
@@timvanderhaar4972 Yeah Leyland loved Don Kelly 😂😂😂 I still remember his walk-off against the A's during I believe the 2013 ALDS
@@DetroitSportsFanSince2002 2012 but heck yeah! One of my under the radar favorites during the crazy run when we had packed roster.
@@timvanderhaar4972 yeah I figured it was 2012 you have to forgive me because sometimes I have short memory loss plus I was a young boy at the time LMAO
Two words: Brandon Inge
@@EvanEscherhe was majority a third baseman - while a Michigan boy, brandon was not in the same league as don kelly when it comes to utility
I love players like Andrew Romine ❤
If he batted as the DH, then he could say he played all 10 positions !!!!
I hope one day we can see another player play at least the 8 fielding positions again. that would be cool. even better, all players in mlb can do that in the future
We need to bring Greinke back and have him do this.
Masyn Winn could probably do this. The only position I could see him struggling in would be catcher.
his catching play looked so natural too
There was a minor league player who played all 10 positions in a game. He started at DH and then played all 9 positions in the field.
I was skinning the comments before posting wondering if anyone had done this. Great to see that someone has.
W vid
wait, what's the explanation for skip putting him on the bump in a 1 run game? Did they plan this spectacle ahead of time or something?
Really cool either way
Yes, it very definitely was planned.
It was planned, the next to last game of the season and Detroit wasn't even close to the playoff so it largely didn't matter.
The Padres have an infielder who pitched as a closer in college (Michigan), Jake Cronenworth. If there's a Padres player who has a chance at all positions, it's him.
that's awesome
Tommy Edman and Brendan Donovan next up
Cavan Biggio can probably do it
I thought he was first just to realize 4 other dudes did it, wild
Now we need this to somehow happen in a rain delayed game that then gets continued after he is traded so that he can do it for BOTH teams in the same game.
He basically played all infield and outfield positions as it is anyway besides this game. He would also pitch in mop up duties on blowouts. The only one he never really did was catcher other then in this game
Would love to see fart do it next year!
What didn’t make sense about this was the Tigers were the road team. You’d think they’d have him do it in front of the home crowd
I assume that they wanted it to be a meaningless game. It was the second-to-last game of the season, and neither team was playing for anything. In their last homestand, they also played the Twins, who at that point had an outside shot at the first wild card position.
badass.
Sick
I wish Youk did this years ago
David Fry for sure
I'm curious how does a player get chosen/allowed to do this?
It was the Tigers' next-to-last game of the season, and they had the worst record in baseball. The Twins had already clinched the last wild card spot and were six games behind the Yankees for the first WC position and 17 games behind the (then) Indians for the Central Division title. All 9 Romine baby

If you can play SS you can be serviceable in any position.
Cookie Rojas did this for the Phillies back in the 60's.
Not in the same game. He played all nine positions in the years he played for the Phils.
Brendan Donovan
I want see g Stanton do it lol
I hope dubon could do this
Can't be done now, except by Ohtani, because of the position player pitching, 2 way player and universal DH rules.
Ichiro would have been the best for this
I would like to see Patrick Mahomes try it.
Willi Castro
The REAL trick is to record an AB in all positions of the batting order.
🗣️🗣️ANDREW ROMINE MENTIONED🗣️🗣️
Another opportunity Manfred has tanked. (Position player pitcher limitations)
Willians Astudillo should have done it
Mauricio Dubon maybe
ohtani obv, the only players I can even think of that could pitch and play outfield.
Garret Hampson
I wanna see Aaron Judge do this...
He pitched and played infield in high school, so why not?
New nick-name: Bugs Bunny!
Is there an explanation why the tigers did this?
But why did this happen? Were they way out of contention or what?
Uh… why?
Why did the manager switch him all around
mauricio dubon could do it
As as Tigers fan, I still don't know what the point of it was
Gain attendance/media revenue. That’s the point of a pr stunt.
It was fun?
@@Alivviegirl it was a regular season finale plus the Tigers had nothing to play for
Mauricio Dubon.
Stott?
will ferrell did it better 😂
Did they do this on purpose? Why?
Buy why though?
@@bobbymoss6160 because the tigers had nothing to play for during the final game of the 2017 season
Why did this happen?
As a Tigers fan I remember this game during the last game of the 2017 season the Tigers who were already out of playoff contention at that time played the Minnesota Twins who already clinched a Playoff spot.
@@DetroitSportsFanSince2002 thanks
As a thank you to Romine for being so versatile.
Ohtani, of course!
He has played a total of seven games at a defensive position other than pitcher, all of them in right or left field.
If that Ohtani cat is so good, why haven’t we seen him play all 9 positions?
He’s too busy hitting home runs in the NLCS.
in your mind rent free
There are 700 million reasons why. Imagine him getting hurt performing a stunt. Romine was a journeyman making $1.3 million in 2017.
