With the prequels (which I really enjoy) you get the feeling that George Lucas had a plan on where to go and what to do with the story, and the narrative holds up really well with those. With the sequels, they are just making it up as they go. That's why TLJ a complete mess and doesn't serve as a proper continuation of TFA. I couldn't agree more with this video.

The Force Awakens was better and I actually really loved the Force Awakens. I wasn't a fan of Star Wars The Last Jedi but it didn't ruin my childhood or anything. The original trilogy will always be there and exist for fans to enjoy if they want what they deem to be a faithful or true interpretation of Star Wars. The Star Wars Fanbase is awful and honestly has ruined my love of Star Wars. Their just movies and people blow these films out of proportion for how bad they are when there are definitely worse movies to be upset over.

jack threan Ah yes music and action. Who cares about good writing, well written characters, and a good plot. Because a bunch of a cgi cluttered action scenes is what makes a good movie. And I like ROTS but it has a lot of problems and Empire is an objectively better movie, and I liked the music and action better in Empire as well, it’s more grounded and practical and you can feel the characters during the scenes.
This is how I think Ryan should have handled Lukes death. Instead of projecting himself to the planet with the Resistance, he should have gone there himself and and have a really amazingly choreographed lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren. Then he would let Kylo strike him down to become one with the force, and he would have died the same way as obi wan and yoda. In my opinion, that would have been a much better send off for the character than the crap that we got.
How can you complain about his death when it’s practically the same death than the one you described ? The only little difference is that Luke used a very powerful Force power, and showed to Kylo Ren that he could not make him disappear, as his ghost would still be with him, just like his father. This was a set up that JJ Abrams could have used in The Rise of Skywalker. So technically it’s the exact same scene as the one you described, only more spectacular and thematically accurate. Also, it wouldn’t have been possible if Luke was there in person, because Jedi are not superheroes with god mode power, he would have been killed by the shoots of the ATM6. Remember how Coleman Trebor got killed by a blaster ? And I can assure you, a prequel Jedi is more trained and stronger in theory than Luke who only received one year of training with Yoda.
I actually didn't mind that Luke never once tried to hit Kylo. It shows how a Jedi should fight, dodge when it's possible, attack when there is no other choice. And I like that after the "fight" no one else died in the movie, as if Luke saved everyone.

Force awakens was better. Sure, it took some tropes from anh but the new characters like snoke and kylo were set up pretty well and the cliff hanger left me wanting more. Then tlj killed off luke and snoke and gave us one of the worst characters and a boring sub plot.

I was fine until you complained about the new characters stealing the spotlight. This is not the story of old trio anymore, it's the new generation's, even Mark Hamill said so. Of couse, as Luke being Luke, he was given the last part of the movie to confront Kylo, sidelining Rey imo, who is THE new protagonist. I'm not complained tho, because Luke had all the right to do so, being him.
As I stated in the video. I was perfectly fine with the new generation of characters with the way they were portrayed in The Force Awakens. The Last Jedi however did a terrible job with them and they DID feel like they stole the spotlight from the original characters which again is something they DIDN'T do in The Force Awakens.

You didn't mention the fight scene in Snokes throne room with Kylo, Rey and the Praetorian Guards. One of the best fight scenes in the whole franchise IMO.
It was a good fight but it doesn't hold up the more you watch it. I can rewatch lightsaber battles over and over again and never get bored of them. But this one I saw about three or four times on different occasions and now I feel like I'm done with it.

You know what really surprises me about continuations to an iconic Franchise ? Films & TV-Shows like Star-Trek, The Creed-Films, Cobra-Kai, And High-School Musical: The Musical did a better and a fantastic job in paying homage and passing the torch than the Sequel-Trilogy did and that is just dissapointing.

If you watch The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi within a short amount of time, they feel perfectly aligned and it feels like The Force Awakens left the door open for so many possibilities -- but the way The Last Jedi went was just one of the best ways. Sure, Rose and Holdo could have been taken out of the movie, but the movie takes actual risks and new directions -- isn't that what filmmaking is about?

I’ll take The Last Jedi over The Force Awakens. Despite its many problems at least it wasn’t a complete remake and Rey didn’t have that much screen time (Rey was the main reason why I can’t rewatch The Force Awakens).
The Force Awakens was a genuinely good movie. It was fresh, exciting, fast-paced, and it showed us things we hadn't seen before. The people butthurt over its similarity to ANH can go whine all they want. I was losing interest in Star Wars right before the movie came out, and it got me back into the franchise. Unfortunately I got right back out after TLJ and now I can hardly be bothered with anything SW related. But for the briefest moment in 2015, Star Wars was magical again, and it was The Force Awakens that did it.
Luck skywalker dying is bogus it would have been so much cooler to see him actually there and brushed his shoulder off after they tried to attack him, but finding out it was a projection was quite a let down for me. then the fact that he used his remaining power in the force and it killed him... rubbage. then with Princess Leia's whole "Mary poppins" scene in space... It was so stupid, and if she has that much power in the force howcome she's put all the saving her son on Luke Skywalker and on hon solo, as she sets back and only uses the force to save herself ? Fuck that. Hated that. Also taking Snoke out without him even getting out of his chair? Come on?! Ron Crider Your complaints are so surface level it's hilarious. What, you wanted Luke to do some stupid action scene with a ton of flips like Yoda in the prequels? That would've been awful. He dies like a real Jedi, using all of his strength to save the day through a peaceful method. What's so wrong about that? Leia's scene was pretty terrible due to it's unintentional hilarity, but remember she isn't a Jedi. She isn't bringing her son back because she's a little busy leading a Resistance. She isn't even leaving it up to Luke to bring him back, she never was. Also, Snoke's death. While I think he should've gotten at least a line or two about why he even started the First Order in the first place, him dying was a great narrative move. Now Kylo is leading the First Order, which not only puts focus on no doubt the best new character (yeah, I don't despise the new characters, but they definitely lack the depth and charm of the original crew). I don't think that this is a great film, though I admire it greatly. To take such a gamble with an established franchise is ballsy, even though it's very sloppy execution leaves a lot to be desired.

As stated earlier I enjoy it but it played too fast and loose with characters like Snoke and Holdo, as everyone has already agreed upon the Finn and Rose subplot just wasn't any good, and it does change up a lot which may not click with everybody. Hell, it may not click with a majority of people. But for those who are willing to role with the punches I think there's a lot to like here.
Jar Jar Abrahams was the real reason why The last Jedi failed, mostly because of his lazy and stupid mystery boxes. There were never going to be satisfying answers for any of them. Lost has already proven this. It started out great, but ultimately led nowhere. This has always been the fate for this new star wars trilogy, all thanks to Jar Jar.

I actually enjoyed The Last Jedi more in theaters, because the settings were more interesting, with more aliens. Parts of the force awakens could have been set in a fantasy world, and I wouldn’t have noticed.

I have the same feelings for those movies, the first one was disappointing and the issue of copying was annoying, but at least it was funny, scary and the music gave you goosebumps... AND also so much options and ideas to where things could go.... the last jedi on the other had felt dull, crappy, rushed and even I would say maddening... the good thing about me is that I'm a comic creator so damn right I'm gonna make myself a better product... you know which movie I actually adored? Rogue one... it was beautiful, kinda really predictable but it was so well established and polished that I couldn't stop crying.

I think as a movie the force awakens was better put together. But the stuff that is good in the last jedi destroys the force awakens. Has much more emotion and atmosphere than the force awakens ever could. I actually though rey was less overpowered in the new one. In the first she learned how to beat kylo within minutes. In the new in their fight against the guards she clearly struggled alot just fighting one. Where he took on 4 at once. Showing that she only beat him because of the heavy damage he was dealt by chewbaca. And luke told her what the force was and how to connect with it. And if you noticed what luke could do then her lifting alot of rocks wasnt that impressive
TLJ does have more emotion. However the lack of logic and the premature nature of the movie made these dramatic moments ineffective. Alsl Luke went through a lot of training in the original trilogy. He wasn't able to lift dozens of heavy rocks within a couple days. No Jedi can. So it IS hard to imagine Ray lifting all those rocks.
well like luke reys training might have been behind the scenes. You dont see luke getting that much training. And what he does get is just the simple "Free your mind" Training. And the emotional moments were very effective. The crappy moments had nothing to do with rey and kylo. Or luke. Therefor it doesnt effect their part. If the movie was about that mostly. With finn on a journey to try and find rey maybe. The movie would have had what it needed. I like TLJ more. But i do recognise the flaws. TFA i thought gave rey too much attitude and too much power for one with no understanding of what that power was. In the new they gave her an understanding. Hmm..I really thought The Last Jedi was a fantastic film..but I agree..the casino subplot was really really bad. I also hope J.J retcons the answer to Rey's parents in the next film, because the "reveal" that they were nobodies..really didn't feel like a reveal..what I mean is..it felt more like Kylo just saying that to try and break her spirit and lead her to the dark side.

Admiral Holdo just felt like an excuse to put Laura Dern on screen instead of developing the plot. When I usually think of Laura Dern, I think of her as doctor Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park and she did well. I didn't like her performance as Holdo in Star Wars.
I don't know why Rose is so mutch hated. She was annoying for me just for her first 3 minutes when she acting like a fangirl, but after that, I discover she is brave, a sad back story and she think that every single member of the Resistance should dadicate for the cause. That explain why she stop Finn to leave. I don't understand why you said that she was put in the movie for make an love triangle between her, Finn and Rey because nothing in TFA sugested that. I think she is smart. Also,I think you'll want to show me the opposite of the scene where he saved Finn. Look: If she doesn't saved Finn, the Resistance would have stayed in the bunker until The First Order came back whit another laser and with more information about the Resistance defense. I think she is a interesting character for a character who was a nobody. But I think the kiss was wierd cuz nothing in TLJ really sugest a romance between her and Finn. But I respect all opinions.
She's the worst, most pointless addition to the franchise ever since Lucas unleashed Jar Jar Binks. Her love story with Finn came out of left-field and her dialogue was as cringeworthy as the Prequels. You know you have a badly written story when we get a shot of an unimportant character like Rose mourning her sister's death, but no shot of Luke mourning Han's death. The best remedy for Episode 9 would be to kill her character off and focus on the more important characters to the storyline.
After I saw the prequels trilogy, I couldn't believe how many annoying bad it have. Young Anakin is awkward, all jedi are bad etc. Jar Jar is the only character who managed to portray what George Lucas wanted: a fool character. Rose is just a masterpiece coparing whit Jar Jar. The real problem with Rose's love story is that it wasn't exist. Nothing in her story sugested why she love Finn. Luke had a mourning Han's death, but that scene was deleted, but that mourning can be kinda feel when he is in Millenium Falcon because he's hit by memories. Rose have a bad executed cry scene, but it can be understanded. No, if is something bad, you better try to fix at first and before decide if you need to erase that thing. Rose can be a good character because this movie just introduce her and don't give her a role, yet. She can do something amazing with her engineer skils, and she (and Poe because he have leadership qualities) can give a speech about how important is to do everything you can to win, giving as an example what her sister did. She can also put a secondary oprtion for Rey's saber which can save Rey in a fight. Something like Ezra's light saber. Everything can be hapen. And I really need a explanation why she love Finn. Now I need to say the new SW trilogy's characters need two movies to be developed completely. Kylo Ren/Ben is the best example. Now I don't say your opnion is wrong. On the contrary. I really think you have good arguments. And I understand that SW 8 isn't for everyone. But SW is a series which need more patience from fans. You still fail to address the fact that Rose's character served no purpose to the story, while Jar Jar was actually more functional in the Prequels. Rose is worse than Jar Jar. If something does not work, you have to take it out, because it is pointless and that is exactly what Rose was: Pointless. And you claim that SW isn't for everyone is absolutely wrong, SW is meant to be for everyone. I actually do know that ESB was hated when it came out, but I've said this way too many times before that the hate for ESB is very different from the hate TLJ is receiving right now. ESB was hated for it's boldness, TLJ is hated for it's sloppiness. There's nothing 'bold' or 'different' about TLJ aside from the fact that it introduced shitty characters like Rose and Admiral Holdo, while disrespecting mainstays like Luke and Leia, and also butchering the newer characters like Rey, Finn, Poe and Snoke, the real smoking gun is that none of these characters had any development in the overall narrative.
I said that the movie shows just Rose's personality. Her role wasn't clear, but we can understand why they put her for 3 reasons: 1. If Finn goes allone, it should be borring and 2. If you saw, in TFA and TLJ have a stong hatred for The First Order, a hatred that leads him to make him take bad decisions, like that kamikaze attack from the last minutes (if he did, the fight would have stretched, not stop it). I think Rose's role is to stop him to make bad decisions. Sorry, but for me Jar Jar is still a bad character. I loved him when I was young, but now I feel he is more a Goofy rip-off. He's role doesn't cover bad parts, in my opinion. Having read your comment, I just found way too many inconsistencies to explain. Luckily for you, I have the patience, so let's get to it: 1. The movie showing Rose's personality doesn't really accomplish anything, given that her role is not clearly explained, and she served no purpose still. "If Finn goes allone", a better story would've given us the Finn-Poe adventure that TFA hinted towards, clearly as they had some really good chemistry in the previous movie, rendering Rose's character more pointless if you come to realise. Yes, Jar Jar was a terrible character, but as terrible as he was, he served a purpose in the story, making him more relevant than Rose. Bad dialogue and zero character development, with the fact that this particular character served no actual purpose is a clear recipe for failure. 2. Again, Star Wars is a movie that's suppose to be for everyone, not just kids, but adults and even older people. That's the reason George Lucas created the story, to make a modern day version of the mythical Hero's Journey that appeals to everybody. TLJ missed that point by it's clear intent of pandering to a specific audience, while alienating another. 3. You talk of the movie focusing on the new characters, but this is what TLJ failed to accomplish. Aside from Kylo Ren, none of the new characters received any sort of character development. Finn was wasted in a useless subplot, Poe was basically a stand-in for toxic masculinity, and Rey's Force abilities or her place in the story still have no clear explanation, Luke's character was very inconsistent with the development he received in prior films, and Leia did not get the send-off she deserved. "I think the reaso why there's not to mutch development by the characters in TLJ, is because his movie is more a part 2", being the middle chapter in the trilogy is where the character development matters most, so that really negates your weak excuse considering the fact that ESB (the middle chapter) holds up really well because of it's character development, as opposed to TLJ's lack thereof. 4. You're still missing the point behind why ESB was hated in it's time, and why it's different from the hate TLJ suffers. Empire and TLJ were/are criticised for two different reasons. Empire was panned at the time of it's release because of the boldness in it's storyline. Audiences were not use to, and clearly not ready for the kind of storytelling that Empire brought to the table. Empire basically added a lot to the lore by showing us more of how the Force works, TLJ didn't really add anything to lore. Empire's storytelling was so masterful it invented whole new tropes that were imitated by several other works of fiction. On the other hand with TLJ, Johnson misled the audience to think it was 'bold' by subverting expectations, sacrificing good storytelling in the process. Analysing it's story, you won't find any boldness to it, aside from the fact it wasn't what people expected it to be. The jokes and humour would fit in well with a Marvel movie, and aside from recycling plot threads from Empire and RotJ, it didn't really accomplish anything new with it's characters (exc. Kylo Ren). In today's movie market where sequels are rarely as good as the original (think Iron Man 2 or Matrix Reloaded), TLJ is basically a dime a dozen. Unless Episode 9 is as weak and mediocre as TLJ, I highly doubt fans would warm up to the film because, the storyline is really sloppy and not very well written.
It has its own storyline that had plot holes and flaws all throughout the movie. It also copied stuff from Return of the Jedi with Ray, Kylo and Snoke. It wasn't fully original. And the new stuff it did as I said was severely flawed.

I think JJ Abrams or Rian Johnson can't write well, but JJ can write acceptable remakes, so that's why was The Force Awakens better as a movie, but I hate for that, because it was just okay, without being original. You can hate The Last Jedi, but atleast it was original, and I appreciate that more. That's a different thing that Rian Johnson didn't really know what happened in TFA, he writes so many plotholes, he doesn't understand Luke and he wanted the unexpected so much, he destroyed everthing. PS.: I think Luke should have stayed for Episode 9, and he would remain as a second lead, and had a little redeem arc. For me: MaRey Sue was so bland, I hardly cared about her. Story- The last jedi True there are holes, but the resistance plot line allows constant tension. Although the force awakens is also pretty good. Characters- Pretty damn close the force awakens character introductions are pretty strong,but kylo and reys "relationship"(dont fucking @ me im not talking about romance) was pretty good. Probably gonna give it to the force awakens. Action- The last jedi does not have as many action scenes but the action scenes are alot more memorable. Effects- The last jedi for obvious reasons
Here's an interesting fact. Did you know that the original concept was that Finn and Rose went to Canto Bight to find, believe it or not, Lando Calrissian. Yeah, no joke. The original idea was to bring him back to the franchise via this movie. However, Rian Johnson decided to scrap him because he felt that he wouldn't fit in it. One of many mistakes he made in Episode VIII. Hopefully, J.J. Abrams will give Lando a proper return.

I found The Last Jedi very good at handling what The Force Awakens set up. Poe was far more interesting in The Last Jedi because he had an arc. What was his arc in The Force Awakens ? Being cool and accomplishing his mission. Awesome. And Finn had a perfect continuing arc from The Force Awakens to The Last Jedi. Also, Rey’s parents weren’t important in the story. I don’t get why you say it needed to be addressed when The Force Awakens was already aware that Rey’s parents didn’t matter. The Last Jedi took this story further by showing that they didn’t even liked their daughter, they were just junk traders who sold her off. I don’t get how you can accept that Rey can beat Kylo Ren at lightsaber duel and not that Rey can lift rocks, while she had a lesson at the beginning of the movie where she experienced the feeling of the Force around her. She received the exact same lesson as Luke who was already able to move rocks in Empire Strikes Back. He had more difficulties because he didn’t believe it was possible, while Rey already knew the Force and the Jedi existed and had a clear motivation (“Something inside me has always been there”). Snoke’s backstory wasn’t important. It’s like the rabbit’s foot in Mission Impossible 3, it’s a JJ Abrams’ mystery box who doesn’t need to be explained. You are really too harsh on The Last Jedi, it’s the perfect continuation of The Force Awakens who delivered the most logical answers and made the characters far more interesting by adding them more depth. In The Force Awakens, the characters were action figures with no personalities who just needed to fulfil their function , in The Last Jedi every character has an arc. I have some problems with the last Jedi but I genuinely think you treated him too harshly as it truly was an author’s vision, while The Force Awakens felt far more like a fan-service fest with no creativity. I have noticed that people are far more forgiving to movies who give you the same stories all over again than the movies who try to innovate. It’s not specific to Star Wars. Eternals was despised by a lot of people while Spider-Man Fanservice Way Home was unbridledly praised.
I hoped Rey in the last jedi will move towards the dark side and Kylo towards the light and they will replay the duel of the force awakens in the 9th episode. But now they can only redeem Rey from being mary sue if she is the new Daughter.
Rey being anyone's daughter would turn her into female Luke, would be boring as hell, and make the character worse. They gotta explain her power without parents.

The Force Awakens - Pretty good. Not a perfect film though, and borrows a bit much from A New Hope. However, it's still competent and well-done, has great acting performances, the action was awesome, etcetera. The Last Jedi - Complete garbage, an absolute disgrace of a Star Wars movie and completely shits on the lore. If it weren't for the soundtrack, the CGI, and the acting, I would've given this movie a 1 out of 10. It's that fucking bad.
I'm so conflicted... out of these two, some of my favourite scenes are from TLJ, but as you pointed out, TFA has a much more streamlined storyline. I feel maybe Rian took a few too many risks and tried to subvert a little too much.
Midiclorians make sense and like some people believe, are not the same as the Force. Secondly I hate the excuse that they were hoping Reys lineage would explain why she's over powered. That's garbage. Luke was the son of the Chosen One and yet was still weak as hell and needed training. Anakin while looking over powered in Ep1 was at least explained and in the following films Anakin recieved training and still got his ass kicked. Rey was just over powered to be over powered.
What exactly did the force awakens set up ? Apart from the fact that the skywalkers were utterly failures ? and somehow the first order were able to rise and basically reform the empire 2.0 of sorts how and why was this allowed to happen , what happened to the new republic ? Is the senate still a thing? , when did the resistance form ? Is or was snoke a dark Jedi or just a force user ? Does the force choose who is susceptible to its power the knights of ren ? I will say based on what has gone on before the last Jedi while I am seemingly one of the few that liked the movie it isn’t a good Star Wars movie if you go by the lore that has gone before it , it very nearly turns everything on its head in a way that you might expect of a finale as apposed to a middle chapter in a trilogy , it feels very much it’s own thing almost a stand alone movie , which is fine but as a middle chapter it is very puzzling. I am sure the two directors must have had discussions about where the story was leading and in that instant I’m sure the only thing that was discussed was Kylo ren being primed as the main antagonist and Kylo ren and Rey’s weird fascination with one another , because if you didn’t know better you would think the director of the last Jedi didn’t much care for the force awakens . I liked the force awakens but it felt like a pilot episode as opposed to the continuation of a 30 plus year old saga , I’m not saying I want or need everything explained but some perspective would have been nice , the movie is pure set up and not much else it’s enjoyable enough but it’s one big mystery box With little or no pay off at all .

With the prequels (which I really enjoy) you get the feeling that George Lucas had a plan on where to go and what to do with the story, and the narrative holds up really well with those. With the sequels, they are just making it up as they go. That's why TLJ a complete mess and doesn't serve as a proper continuation of TFA. I couldn't agree more with this video.

The Force Awakens was better and I actually really loved the Force Awakens. I wasn't a fan of Star Wars The Last Jedi but it didn't ruin my childhood or anything. The original trilogy will always be there and exist for fans to enjoy if they want what they deem to be a faithful or true interpretation of Star Wars. The Star Wars Fanbase is awful and honestly has ruined my love of Star Wars. Their just movies and people blow these films out of proportion for how bad they are when there are definitely worse movies to be upset over.

jack threan Ah yes music and action. Who cares about good writing, well written characters, and a good plot. Because a bunch of a cgi cluttered action scenes is what makes a good movie. And I like ROTS but it has a lot of problems and Empire is an objectively better movie, and I liked the music and action better in Empire as well, it’s more grounded and practical and you can feel the characters during the scenes.
This is how I think Ryan should have handled Lukes death. Instead of projecting himself to the planet with the Resistance, he should have gone there himself and and have a really amazingly choreographed lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren. Then he would let Kylo strike him down to become one with the force, and he would have died the same way as obi wan and yoda. In my opinion, that would have been a much better send off for the character than the crap that we got.
I agree. Luke could do the same thing like Obi Wan "Ben" Kenobi did in A New Hope but sadly, it never happened.
How can you complain about his death when it’s practically the same death than the one you described ? The only little difference is that Luke used a very powerful Force power, and showed to Kylo Ren that he could not make him disappear, as his ghost would still be with him, just like his father. This was a set up that JJ Abrams could have used in The Rise of Skywalker.
So technically it’s the exact same scene as the one you described, only more spectacular and thematically accurate.
Also, it wouldn’t have been possible if Luke was there in person, because Jedi are not superheroes with god mode power, he would have been killed by the shoots of the ATM6. Remember how Coleman Trebor got killed by a blaster ? And I can assure you, a prequel Jedi is more trained and stronger in theory than Luke who only received one year of training with Yoda.

I actually didn't mind that Luke never once tried to hit Kylo. It shows how a Jedi should fight, dodge when it's possible, attack when there is no other choice. And I like that after the "fight" no one else died in the movie, as if Luke saved everyone.

TFA is flawed, but I think it delivers. I still enjoy watching it. Honestly, there are two big problems with TFA. 1) It’s too much of a New Hope retread. 2) It has a lot of interesting questions that TLJ doesn’t have interesting answers for.
I was fine until you complained about the new characters stealing the spotlight. This is not the story of old trio anymore, it's the new generation's, even Mark Hamill said so. Of couse, as Luke being Luke, he was given the last part of the movie to confront Kylo, sidelining Rey imo, who is THE new protagonist. I'm not complained tho, because Luke had all the right to do so, being him.
As I stated in the video. I was perfectly fine with the new generation of characters with the way they were portrayed in The Force Awakens. The Last Jedi however did a terrible job with them and they DID feel like they stole the spotlight from the original characters which again is something they DIDN'T do in The Force Awakens.

You didn't mention the fight scene in Snokes throne room with Kylo, Rey and the Praetorian Guards. One of the best fight scenes in the whole franchise IMO.
It was a good fight but it doesn't hold up the more you watch it. I can rewatch lightsaber battles over and over again and never get bored of them. But this one I saw about three or four times on different occasions and now I feel like I'm done with it.

You know what really surprises me about continuations to an iconic Franchise ? Films & TV-Shows like Star-Trek, The Creed-Films, Cobra-Kai, And High-School Musical: The Musical did a better and a fantastic job in paying homage and passing the torch than the Sequel-Trilogy did and that is just dissapointing.

If you watch The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi within a short amount of time, they feel perfectly aligned and it feels like The Force Awakens left the door open for so many possibilities -- but the way The Last Jedi went was just one of the best ways. The Force Awakens was a genuinely good movie. It was fresh, exciting, fast-paced, and it showed us things we hadn't seen before. The people butthurt over its similarity to ANH can go whine all they want. I was losing interest in Star Wars right before the movie came out, and it got me back into the franchise. Unfortunately I got right back out after TLJ and now I can hardly be bothered with anything SW related. But for the briefest moment in 2015, Star Wars was magical again, and it was The Force Awakens that did it.
Luck skywalker dying is bogus it would have been so much cooler to see him actually there and brushed his shoulder off after they tried to attack him, but finding out it was a projection was quite a let down for me. then the fact that he used his remaining power in the force and it killed him... rubbage. then with Princess Leia's whole "Mary poppins" scene in space... It was so stupid, and if she has that much power in the force howcome she's put all the saving her son on Luke Skywalker and on hon solo, as she sets back and only uses the force to save herself ? Fuck that. Hated that. Also taking Snoke out without him even getting out of his chair? Come on?! Ron Crider Your complaints are so surface level it's hilarious. What, you wanted Luke to do some stupid action scene with a ton of flips like Yoda in the prequels? That would've been awful. He dies like a real Jedi, using all of his strength to save the day through a peaceful method. What's so wrong about that? Leia's scene was pretty terrible due to it's unintentional hilarity, but remember she isn't a Jedi. She isn't bringing her son back because she's a little busy leading a Resistance. She isn't even leaving it up to Luke to bring him back, she never was. Also, Snoke's death. While I think he should've gotten at least a line or two about why he even started the First Order in the first place, him dying was a great narrative move. Now Kylo is leading the First Order, which not only puts focus on no doubt the best new character (yeah, I don't despise the new characters, but they definitely lack the depth and charm of the original crew). I don't think that this is a great film, though I admire it greatly. To take such a gamble with an established franchise is ballsy, even though it's very sloppy execution leaves a lot to be desired.

As stated earlier I enjoy it but it played too fast and loose with characters like Snoke and Holdo, as everyone has already agreed upon the Finn and Rose subplot just wasn't any good, and it does change up a lot which may not click with everybody. Hell, it may not click with a majority of people. But for those who are willing to role with the punches I think there's a lot to like here.
Jar Jar Abrahams was the real reason why The last Jedi failed, mostly because of his lazy and stupid mystery boxes. There were never going to be satisfying answers for any of them. Lost has already proven this. It started out great, but ultimately led nowhere. This has always been the fate for this new star wars trilogy, all thanks to Jar Jar.

I actually enjoyed The Last Jedi more in theaters, because the settings were more interesting, with more aliens. Parts of the force awakens could have been set in a fantasy world, and I wouldn’t have noticed.

I have the same feelings for those movies, the first one was disappointing and the issue of copying was annoying, but at least it was funny, scary and the music gave you goosebumps... AND also so much options and ideas to where things could go.... the last jedi on the other had felt dull, crappy, rushed and even I would say maddening... the good thing about me is that I'm a comic creator so damn right I'm gonna make myself a better product... you know which movie I actually adored? Rogue one... it was beautiful, kinda really predictable but it was so well established and polished that I couldn't stop crying.

I think as a movie the force awakens was better put together. But the stuff that is good in the last jedi destroys the force awakens. Has much more emotion and atmosphere than the force awakens ever could. I actually though rey was less overpowered in the new one. In the first she learned how to beat kylo within minutes. In the new in their fight against the guards she clearly struggled alot just fighting one. Where he took on 4 at once. Showing that she only beat him because of the heavy damage he was dealt by chewbaca. And luke told her what the force was and how to connect with it. And if you noticed what luke could do then her lifting alot of rocks wasnt that impressive
TLJ does have more emotion. However the lack of logic and the premature nature of the movie made these dramatic moments ineffective. Alsl Luke went through a lot of training in the original trilogy. He wasn't able to lift dozens of heavy rocks within a couple days. No Jedi can. So it IS hard to imagine Ray lifting all those rocks.
well like luke reys training might have been behind the scenes. You dont see luke getting that much training. And what he does get is just the simple "Free your mind" Training. And the emotional moments were very effective. The crappy moments had nothing to do with rey and kylo. Or luke. Therefor it doesnt effect their part. If the movie was about that mostly. With finn on a journey to try and find rey maybe. The movie would have had what it needed. I like TLJ more. But i do recognise the flaws. Hmm..I really thought The Last Jedi was a fantastic film..but I agree..the casino subplot was really really bad. I also hope J.J retcons the answer to Rey's parents in the next film, because the "reveal" that they were nobodies..really didn't feel like a reveal..what I mean is..it felt more like Kylo just saying that to try and break her spirit and lead her to the dark side.

Admiral Holdo just felt like an excuse to put Laura Dern on screen instead of developing the plot. When I usually think of Laura Dern, I think of her as doctor Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park and she did well. I didn't like her performance as Holdo in Star Wars.
I don't know why Rose is so mutch hated. She was annoying for me just for her first 3 minutes when she acting like a fangirl, but after that, I discover she is brave, a sad back story and she think that every single member of the Resistance should dadicate for the cause. That explain why she stop Finn to leave. I don't understand why you said that she was put in the movie for make an love triangle between her, Finn and Rey because nothing in TFA sugested that. I think she is smart. Also,I think you'll want to show me the opposite of the scene where he saved Finn. Look: If she doesn't saved Finn, the Resistance would have stayed in the bunker until The First Order came back whit another laser and with more information about the Resistance defense. I think she is a interesting character for a character who was a nobody. But I think the kiss was wierd cuz nothing in TLJ really sugest a romance between her and Finn. But I respect all opinions.
She's the worst, most pointless addition to the franchise ever since Lucas unleashed Jar Jar Binks. Her love story with Finn came out of left-field and her dialogue was as cringeworthy as the Prequels. You know you have a badly written story when we get a shot of an unimportant character like Rose mourning her sister's death, but no shot of Luke mourning Han's death. The best remedy for Episode 9 would be to kill her character off and focus on the more important characters to the storyline.
After I saw the prequels trilogy, I couldn't believe how many annoying bad it have. Young Anakin is awkward, all jedi are bad etc. Jar Jar is the only character who managed to portray what George Lucas wanted: a fool character. Rose is just a masterpiece coparing whit Jar Jar. The real problem with Rose's love story is that it wasn't exist. Nothing in her story sugested why she love Finn. Luke had a mourning Han's death, but that scene was deleted, but that mourning can be kinda feel when he is in Millenium Falcon because he's hit by memories. Rose have a bad executed cry scene, but it can be understanded. No, if is something bad, you better try to fix at first and before decide if you need to erase that thing. Rose can be a good character because this movie just introduce her and don't give her a role, yet. She can do something amazing with her engineer skils, and she (and Poe because he have leadership qualities) can give a speech about how important is to do everything you can to win, giving as an example what her sister did. She can also put a secondary oprtion for Rey's saber which can save Rey in a fight. Something like Ezra's light saber. Everything can be hapen. And I really need a explanation why she love Finn. Now I need to say the new SW trilogy's characters need two movies to be developed completely. Kylo Ren/Ben is the best example. Now I don't say your opnion is wrong. On the contrary. I really think you have good arguments. And I understand that SW 8 isn't for everyone. But SW is a series which need more patience from fans. If you don't know, ESB was sa hated when it came out and now is considered the best SW movie ever. I think this can be applied to Rose.

ESB was hated for it's boldness, TLJ is hated for it's sloppiness. There's nothing 'bold' or 'different' about TLJ aside from the fact that it introduced shitty characters like Rose and Admiral Holdo, while disrespecting mainstays like Luke and Leia, and also butchering the newer characters like Rey, Finn, Poe and Snoke, the real smoking gun is that none of these characters had any development in the overall narrative.
I said that the movie shows just Rose's personality. Her role wasn't clear, but we can understand why they put her for 3 reasons: 1. If Finn goes allone, it should be borring and 2. If you saw, in TFA and TLJ have a stong hatred for The First Order, a hatred that leads him to make him take bad decisions, like that kamikaze attack from the last minutes (if he did, the fight would have stretched, not stop it). I think Rose's role is to stop him to make bad decisions. Sorry, but for me Jar Jar is still a bad character. I loved him when I was young, but now I feel he is more a Goofy rip-off. He's role doesn't cover bad parts, in my opinion.
I'm still disagree with removing her in SW 9 because I't wasn't work at first time, but that because she wasn't developed enought, think that should be fixed in the next movie verry easily.
About what I said about Luke's scene: Rian Jhonson said is a scene with Finn and Poe which he wanted to put in the movie, the movie would have taken too long if he did that. So somethings which was in the deleted scenes, was hapened in the movie, but we didn't see this. Yeah, they should try to put them, but I think I prefer to stay at a movie maximum 2h 30m then 3h (almost).
What i tried to say (SW8 isn't for everyone) is that it isn't for everyone's liking, because that movie tried to be more acurate for today children, so ofcourse that movie is not really ment for adults SW fans. I mean, the original movie was made for 70'-80' children, so I think that is the only way to make a series to remain relevant: suffering transformations and changes.
About ESB hate, it was eradicated after SW lore evolued and SW6 came out. I think is the same thing what hapen with TLJ. The story need to evolve and know the lore. Hey! I also have a comment where I ask to peoples to answer a question about their reaction after they saw TLJ. If you want, please read the comment and put down below your answer. I want to disccover something with that.
Having read your comment, I just found way too many inconsistencies to explain. Luckily for you, I have the patience, so let's get to it:
1. The movie showing Rose's personality doesn't really accomplish anything, given that her role is not clearly explained, and she served no purpose still. "If Finn goes allone", a better story would've given us the Finn-Poe adventure that TFA hinted towards, clearly as they had some really good chemistry in the previous movie, rendering Rose's character more pointless if you come to realise. Yes, Jar Jar was a terrible character, but as terrible as he was, he served a purpose in the story, making him more relevant than Rose. Bad dialogue and zero character development, with the fact that this particular character served no actual purpose is a clear recipe for failure.
2. Again, Star Wars is a movie that's suppose to be for everyone, not just kids, but adults and even older people. That's the reason George Lucas created the story, to make a modern day version of the mythical Hero's Journey that appeals to everybody. TLJ missed that point by it's clear intent of pandering to a specific audience, while alienating another.
3. You talk of the movie focusing on the new characters, but this is what TLJ failed to accomplish. Aside from Kylo Ren, none of the new characters received any sort of character development. Finn was wasted in a useless subplot, Poe was basically a stand-in for toxic masculinity, and Rey's Force abilities or her place in the story still have no clear explanation, Luke's character was very inconsistent with the development he received in prior films, and Leia did not get the send-off she deserved.
"I think the reaso why there's not to mutch development by the characters in TLJ, is because his movie is more a part 2", being the middle chapter in the trilogy is where the character development matters most, so that really negates your weak excuse considering the fact that ESB (the middle chapter) holds up really well because of it's character development, as opposed to TLJ's lack thereof.
4. You're still missing the point behind why ESB was hated in it's time, and why it's different from the hate TLJ suffers. Empire and TLJ were/are criticised for two different reasons. Empire was panned at the time of it's release because of the boldness in it's storyline. Audiences were not use to, and clearly not ready for the kind of storytelling that Empire brought to the table. Empire basically added a lot to the lore by showing us more of how the Force works, TLJ didn't really add anything to lore. Empire's storytelling was so masterful it invented whole new tropes that were imitated by several other works of fiction.
On the other hand with TLJ, Johnson misled the audience to think it was 'bold' by subverting expectations, sacrificing good storytelling in the process. Analysing it's story, you won't find any boldness to it, aside from the fact it wasn't what people expected it to be. The jokes and humour would fit in well with a Marvel movie, and aside from recycling plot threads from Empire and RotJ, it didn't really accomplish anything new with it's characters (exc. Kylo Ren). In today's movie market where sequels are rarely as good as the original (think Iron Man 2 or Matrix Reloaded), TLJ is basically a dime a dozen. Unless Episode 9 is as weak and mediocre as TLJ, I highly doubt fans would warm up to the film because, the storyline is really sloppy and not very well written.
How can people claim TFA is better than TLJ? TFA was A New Hope copy. TLJ had it's own storyline.
It has its own storyline that had plot holes and flaws all throughout the movie. It also copied stuff from Return of the Jedi with Ray, Kylo and Snoke. It wasn't fully original. And the new stuff it did as I said was severely flawed.

*Starkiller base was destroyed without plans (you mean Rogue One died in vain?)
*Phasma deflected after a gun was pointed at her
*Poe died and ressuerected without explanation
*Leia's credibility was damaged because her dad and son were serial killers who destroyed a planet, so her husband goes back to being a criminal (makes no sense).
*Made Luke forced to quit
*Remade IV: A New Hope, and attempted to force The Last Jedi to remake V: Empire

I think JJ Abrams or Rian Johnson can't write well, but JJ can write acceptable remakes, so that's why was The Force Awakens better as a movie, but I hate for that, because it was just okay, without being original. You can hate The Last Jedi, but atleast it was original, and I appreciate that more. That's a different thing that Rian Johnson didn't really know what happened in TFA, he writes so many plotholes, he doesn't understand Luke and he wanted the unexpected so much, he destroyed everthing.
PS.: I think Luke should have stayed for Episode 9, and he would remain as a second lead, and had a little redeem arc. For me: MaRey Sue was so bland, I hardly cared about her. Finn and Poe were much better, they should have a side story together.

Here's an interesting fact. Did you know that the original concept was that Finn and Rose went to Canto Bight to find, believe it or not, Lando Calrissian. Yeah, no joke. The original idea was to bring him back to the franchise via this movie. However, Rian Johnson decided to scrap him because he felt that he wouldn't fit in it. One of many mistakes he made in Episode VIII. Hopefully, J.J. Abrams will give Lando a proper return.

I found The Last Jedi very good at handling what The Force Awakens set up. Poe was far more interesting in The Last Jedi because he had an arc. What was his arc in The Force Awakens ? Being cool and accomplishing his mission. Awesome. And Finn had a perfect continuing arc from The Force Awakens to The Last Jedi.
Also, Rey’s parents weren’t important in the story. I don’t get why you say it needed to be addressed when The Force Awakens was already aware that Rey’s parents didn’t matter. The Last Jedi took this story further by showing that they didn’t even liked their daughter, they were just junk traders who sold her off. I don’t get how you can accept that Rey can beat Kylo Ren at lightsaber duel and not that Rey can lift rocks, while she had a lesson at the beginning of the movie where she experienced the feeling of the Force around her. She received the exact same lesson as Luke who was already able to move rocks in Empire Strikes Back. He had more difficulties because he didn’t believe it was possible, while Rey already knew the Force and the Jedi existed and had a clear motivation (“Something inside me has always been there”).
Snoke’s backstory wasn’t important. It’s like the rabbit’s foot in Mission Impossible 3, it’s a JJ Abrams’ mystery box who doesn’t need to be explained.
You are really too harsh on The Last Jedi, it’s the perfect continuation of The Force Awakens who delivered the most logical answers and made the characters far more interesting by adding them more depth. In The Force Awakens, the characters were action figures with no personalities who just needed to fulfil their function , in The Last Jedi every character has an arc.
I have some problems with the last Jedi but I genuinely think you treated him too harshly as it truly was an author’s vision, while The Force Awakens felt far more like a fan-service fest with no creativity. I have noticed that people are far more forgiving to movies who give you the same stories all over again than the movies who try to innovate. It’s not specific to Star Wars. Eternals was despised by a lot of people while Spider-Man Fanservice Way Home was unbridledly praised.
I hoped Rey in the last jedi will move towards the dark side and Kylo towards the light and they will replay the duel of the force awakens in the 9th episode.
But now they can only redeem Rey from being mary sue if she is the new Daughter.
Rey being anyone's daughter would turn her into female Luke, would be boring as hell, and make the character worse. They gotta explain her power without parents.

Top 5 Cartoon Yeah complete nonsense. Tell me who was the character that told the entire rebellion that there was good in Darth Vader and that he had faith he could turn him?? Hmm.
Who was the character that threw his lightsaber down and basically told the Emperor he would rather die than strike Vader down???

Now why would this individual turn a lightsaber on his nephew? After sensing a little bit of the dark side in him? Vader was full blown murderer and what did Luke say about him?

The Force Awakens - Pretty good. Not a perfect film though, and borrows a bit much from A New Hope. However, it's still competent and well-done, has great acting performances, the action was awesome, etcetera.
The Last Jedi - Complete garbage, an absolute disgrace of a Star Wars movie and completely shits on the lore. If it weren't for the soundtrack, the CGI, and the acting, I would've given this movie a 1 out of 10. It's that fucking bad.
TLJ was just ok not good not bad just ok in my opinion
I'm so conflicted... out of these two, some of my favourite scenes are from TLJ, but as you pointed out, TFA has a much more streamlined storyline.
I feel maybe Rian took a few too many risks and tried to subvert a little too much.
Midiclorians make sense and like some people believe, are not the same as the Force. Secondly I hate the excuse that they were hoping Reys lineage would explain why she's over powered. That's garbage. Luke was the son of the Chosen One and yet was still weak as hell and needed training. Anakin while looking over powered in Ep1 was at least explained and in the following films Anakin recieved training and still got his ass kicked. Rey was just over powered to be over powered.

What exactly did the force awakens set up ? Apart from the fact that the skywalkers were utterly failures ? and somehow the first order were able to rise and basically reform the empire 2.0 of sorts how and why was this allowed to happen , what happened to the new republic ? Is the senate still a thing? , when did the resistance form ? Is or was snoke a dark Jedi or just a force user ? Does the force choose who is susceptible to its power the knights of ren ?
I will say based on what has gone on before the last Jedi while I am seemingly one of the few that liked the movie it isn’t a good Star Wars movie if you go by the lore that has gone before it , it very nearly turns everything on its head in a way that you might expect of a finale as apposed to a middle chapter in a trilogy , it feels very much it’s own thing almost a stand alone movie , which is fine but as a middle chapter it is very puzzling.
I am sure the two directors must have had discussions about where the story was leading and in that instant I’m sure the only thing that was discussed was Kylo ren being primed as the main antagonist and Kylo ren and Rey’s weird fascination with one another , because if you didn’t know better you would think the director of the last Jedi didn’t much care for the force awakens .
I liked the force awakens but it felt like a pilot episode as opposed to the continuation of a 30 plus year old saga , I’m not saying I want or need everything explained but some perspective would have been nice , the movie is pure set up and not much else it’s enjoyable enough but it’s one big mystery box With little or no pay off at all .
And also to Eric Carter, how dare you call porgs ugly and useless! They are adorable!
Compare Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back, Revenge Of The Sith, and The last Jedi to see which one is more DARKER as far as the story and music go.

All they had to do was take some time to explain..things without just jumping to scenes ..
1.show rae getting training and lessons and reasonings from Luke and Leah ..
2.show Rae getting pointers on how to fly from Han Solo and flying keep asking about how to .
3.show little flashback on snoke
4.they shouldn’t ha w dumbed down the relationship between finn & rae to put him with rose..it makes no sense ..it’s as if the new director don’t like interacting all relationship and stick the black with the Chinese ..lol..
5.That’s not what was built on in the first movie ...and if to that extent why he ain’t just put Rae wit khylo
6.rose doesn’t belong ,she’s boring and she shouldn’t hv token Finn interest from Rae .....because he’s the first person that care about her and their backstory and chemistry was too strong
