Yeah except running two carts at once just for the sake of raking in as much business as possible is exactly what caused the atrocious accident that occurred on this awesome coaster some years ago causing two young women to lose their legs and a young man in the same row as them to have permanent knee injuries as well as whatever other injuries were caused to passengers in the rows behind them. I can see they’ve installed more cameras and they do run one less cart than they used to all at once but you’d think they’d move onto the US’s safety protocol where a park can never, ever, for any reason, actively run more than a single cart on a coaster at one time. But nah, they just removed one of three simultaneously running carts, added a few more cameras, and added a slightly longer sensor/timer for detecting whether the cart ahead has made its return or not, to… oh idk, maybe prevent the exact same tragedy from happening again. I have the utmost respect for roller coasters as well as the great people who design them. What I don’t respect are the corporations who purchase them and the unaware careless workers who run these serious machines
@@Xcjcjdjdkdfgkgkvkckr They almost always run more than one train on United States rollercoasters at high-quality parks. A block zone is a section of track which only one train is allowed to occupy at any time. Between each block zone is a method of bringing trains to a complete stop, usually a mid-course break run (like on Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (the trains are small but the mid-course break runs allow it to run many trains and have a high capacity in spite of this)) but sometimes a launch (like the second launch on VelociCoaster at Islands of Adventure). Rollercoasters are not like water slides, where they have multiple trains in the same block zone and count on the fact that the other train is too far ahead to crash, and the fact that it's going so slowly that it's not too dangerous when they crash. The Smiler accident was caused by maintenance adding a fifth train to the track without telling ride operators. They sent the train around the track with no passengers in it, and it valleyed due to high winds. Then, ride operators sent a train with passengers. The computer system told them that there was still a train in the first block zone, and refused to send the train down. Ride operators saw that there were three trains in the station and one on the lift hill, so they assumed the computer system was wrong not knowing there was a 5th train on the track, and didn't bother checking to see whether there was anything else in the block zone (which is probably a serious violation of safety protocols and is the main cause of the accident), manually overrode the safety system, and sent the train out through the course. Then, it crashed into the valleyed train.

Ratting - 10/10 - Anyone who is a Thrill Seeker needs to experience The Smiler in my opinion and the only advice I can give to anyone who is wanting to ride it but is nervous to get on the ride is to just do it anyway. You only live once so If there is any part of you that wants to ride it you should 100% go for it even If you are scared.
Tip To Thrill Seekers - Put your hands in the air the whole time you ride it especially on the upside-down parts because you will get way more of a thrill when you constantly go upside-down.
Great review!
Make sure to try Nemesis and Wickerman the next time you go. They really are unique and amazing ride experiences!
@@SmudgysCoasters Will do next time I'm there. The Queues were so big though so I sadly didn't have time for Nemesis and even if I had done Nemesis I wouldn't have been able to do Rita and Theteteen and I really wanted to do Rita that day aswell.
Nemesis needs to be the first ride you go on next time, it has a re track coming up and people are specualting it will start when the park closes this season so you might have to wait a while thats being done as it may last a while possibly a season or 2(or maybe longer)but nemsis is a must ride, its my number 2 after smiler
Try Oblivion and remember….
*DON’T LOOK DOWN*
It's a beast of a roller coaster, talking from experience.
If you go Alton towers make sure you go on every coaster. Fun asf
That looks so SMOOTH!
Warning: back rows will not be smooth. Still great ride tho
I went there yesterday for scarefest, the line was really long, I waited 3 hours in line for it but it was so worth it
I cannot wait to go on the smiler in about 2 months with my friend - we have been dreaming about it!!! Great video!
Hope you enjoy it!
@@AttractionSource I definitley will - thanks!
2:35 look at the line omg
That take hours till its your turn besides the entrance is very long to enter
One of the best coasters on planet earth.
From what I've been on, I would agree 👍
So true
Its nice you like my Rollercoaster
the music on the ride makes it even creepier
Thats why the smiler is a scary coaster because of the music and the laughter haha haha haha and i think you need a correction
This pov makes it look so smooth lol
That’s because it is
We went on it for the 1st time yesterday. Loved it! I think the fact that the 2 cars are in such good sync is a thing you notice when queuing but then don't even notice it when you're on it!
Of course you don’t, you’re mainly focused on…
Keep going…
*14* inversions
Glad you enjoyed!
@@Xcjcjdjdkdfgkgkvkckr Liar. Staff overriding the system caused it to crash. Typical lying gp.
My favorite theme of any ride in existence to be honest.
I had to wait 3 hours in the line for this ride and i seriously would do it again 😂
The music during our 1 hour 45 minute wait time was psychopathic bro. I chipped my tooth on the metal railing on the inside queue aswell lol.
Went on this for the first time yesterday and after spending the queue, load up & first lift hill terrified. I ended up loving every second of it, my second favourite ride in the park (after Wicker Man)
Glad you enjoyed!
Wicker Man is pretty awesome, but for me, nothing beats Nemesis. Still the best ride in the park with Smiler a close second.
Went on this yesterday for the first time with my teenage daughter and her friend. We all absolutely loved it and was so worth the long 1.5hrs queue!😢
The smiler nemesis and Rita In my opinion are the best, I’m yet to go on oblivion
Usually you would be scared in the queue for a ride of this intensity but I was just fed up by the sound of the coaster (it’s right above you in the queue)and obviously the soundtrack 😅
Best rollercoaster ever
Whoop!
Now this... THIS is the REAL ride to happiness
Rode the smiler 5 times yesterday! This ride is absolute nuts
This just looks insane and the song too
went on for the first time today with my older brother, we queued for 40 minutes and our parents thought i would chicken out lol! but i did it and i loved it!! my new fav ride at alton towers (been on all but oblivion)
Same but the only ride I've not been on is nemesis
@@jamieandrewsyddall You're missing out
@@BedtimeStoriesChannelI wanna go on it but re track will stop me going on it tho ik I'll enjoy Galactica, wickerman, smiler etc
Im going to alton towers in September. Cant wait to ride this thing!
To anyone going on this ride soon and may be scared, I promise you it is a really good ride. I (had) a fear of roller coasters untill i went to alton towers today i absolutely loved the smiler before even seeing it i forced myself to go on and to me it was so exciting and not scary at all , (the scary bit is when you are going on the vertical lift hill at the back of the train😂😂)
Scary for the 16 people that got hurt by negligent staff and suffered major injuries. 2 of them lost one of their legs
@@sylviajacobs31 I am fully aware of that , but thats not what I'm talking about here. Of course the girl who lost her leg would be terrified and my hearts go out to all that got injured from that horrible accident.
oh my god yes, i went on the first of April and got back row. honestly petrified at vertical lift because it feels like you’re going to roll back but honestly that just adds to the suspense! 10/10 coaster though
Went here about a month ago and had never rode a rollercoaster before. I decided to ride this and i loved it.
Very unique and well themed...long ride length too
"How many inversions do we want?"
"...well, YES."
The music haunts my dreams
That looked amazing!
Ok
best coaster there in my opinion. soooo much airtime
My favourite Rollercoaster ever. I miss being younger
rode this for the first time today and absolutely loved it but didnt expect so many lopps! also the first time i had ever been on any rides bigger than the blade one....
I mean it has 14 inversions XD
I went on this today, its madness! but its a must-do if you visit Alton Towers
I rode this with my arms in the air the whole time, they were throbbing afterwards from being smashed against the restraint. If the smiler had mack rides style lapbars it would easily be my number one. Still it’s my number 2 behind the rusty-white legend which sits at the other side of the park
Ok
Nemesis track was never rusty, they painted it to look that way.
@@danielledewitt1 Why should I have to say the “painted rusty white legend”? I know it’s painted, I just don’t feel like I need to point out the obvious.
@@bennickss Because that is what it was.
I cannot deal with lap bars personally. Never had any issues with over-the-shoulder restraints and they feel much safer (i know lap bars are safe)
I when my on the smiler for the first time yesterday, (I’m pretty sure when this video was shot) and loved it, mental
Glad you enjoyed!
I love this ride
Us too!
One of the best rides iv ever been on
Best one there. Second row both times
Really cool design and aesthetic!
when i went on it in april last year me and my friends were RIGHT AT THE FRONT and i was so scared 😭 there were these indian men behind us and they kept yelling in a different language on the verticle bit 😭😭😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂😂😂
This should have the world record for the craziest roller coaster!
its the world record for deadliest rollar coaster incident
@@J.editssnobody died?
@@Thrillversee deadliest doesn’t always mean people will die but the turns and the incident that happened is what caused it to be

2:44 best airtime in Britain
Absolutely!
Couldn’t agree more lol
Can't wait to get back on this on opening day!
best ride in the park imo (nemesis second place tho)
Agreed, I like both equally but the smiler might just be better
For me it's Smiler, Galactia and then Nemesis. I found Nemesis to be really rough and jagged. I was on the 3rd row of Nemesis.
@@SR1Records front row is the best, I went on the middle first time and didn’t really like it but I then went on front row and it became one of my favourites

1: Smiler
2: Nemesis
3: Oblivion
4: Wicker Man
5: Th13teen
6: Galactica
7: Rita

I think a few parts of The Smiler need a bath! Ah well, we are coming up on ten years of it being in the park, so maybe it'll get a good scrub then. :) And it's always cool to see what it looks like to ride it (I'm American and haven't yet found a way over to Alton Towers to experience it in person).
Hopefully you'll make it over soon!
Best ride I've been on
Never been too keen on the Smiler personally... maybe I'm too tall but I find it rather uncomfortable, and dare I say it a tad repetitive 🙉. I do think it's a pretty impressive piece of engineering though and it's definitely well worth a ride on every visit!
Yes agree, fab ride but nowhere near as comfy as the B&Ms.
@@AttractionSource It is a great ride for sure, however it has no stand out inversion(s) for me, which for a ride based on inversions says a lot! Thanks for all the great Pov's 👍
