    In Episode 22, we cruise back North to the Glasson Basin.
    We are invited by friends to the annual Bridge House Marina cookout. It's 'officially' cancelled due to rain, but some of us go ahead with the cookout anyway! Thanks Col, Debbie and Karen!
    The next day, we meet our friend Chris (Merrylegs) who had generously offered to help us with the Glasson locks.
    On the Glasson Basin, we're caught in a scary storm, we visit The Shop at Glasson Dock for a delicious breakfast barm, entertain Josie, John and Rum Pup and run into some BIG trouble trying to move Liberty to a safer mooring.
    We find a great place for breakfast, gifts and essentials. We take a look at the basin and the lower pound, talk to some locals and discover the best blackcurrant pie we've ever tasted!
    Thank you for watching! Please give us a thumbs up if you enjoyed the video and subscribe if you want to see future episodes. Remember to click the bell to be notified when we upload new content.

    Small suggestion if you want to avoid further damage from bank/quay sides. Buy a couple of pumped up wheelbarrow wheels, tie them to a side rail & leave them floating between Liberty & the bank. They will float flat, giving plenty of clearance, with the rubber wheels doing no damage to blacking regardless how choppy conditions are. good luck👍

      Hi! Thanks for the tip. We bought some go-cart tyres, but we noticed without a wheel in them, they too can get crushed flat, so we'll keep an eye open for wheels that meet your description. Best wishes, Rob, Carol and Tilly x

    Strictly speaking Rob, I would call that a Barm Cake. I know it's NOT a cake, but that's how we always used to refer to them when ordering one :) I love the different words around the country for the same or slightly different bread rolls! Baps, Barms, Cobs, Rolls...all very similar, but use the wrong one in a shop, and they know you're not local :) Rum looked very happy on your new sofa bed. Definitely giving it a thumbs up...or should that be paws up :) I'm not sure I would have tried to move when you did. It looked horrible. I think I would have just made sure I had enough in the way of fenders between the boat and the bank and waited until it was calmer. However, I don't know what the forecast was, and I wouldn't have wanted to be stuck there for days!

      I think in hindsight we should have waited for a calm day, but we couldn’t bear another noisy and topsy-turvy night and neither could poor Tilly! At least we learned a valuable lesson or two! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

    Can't beat a good Bacon, Sausage and Egg barm. Or, as we call it up North, a Mad Cow Butty or BSE (as in Bovine Spongy whatsit)
    Loving the vids

      Hi Paul, Thankfully, so far, we haven't been showing any symptoms! Thanks for the kind comment about the videos (and the Barm really was very good, regardless of the risk)! :)

    Wow! I loved how you did this vlog an I plan on viewing the past ones now too. I get that some times narrow boating has its Disadvantages . But it's still on my bucket list. It is a shame your boat got all those rubs an scratches because its a very beautiful craft. please be safe an have a very wonderfull week!

      Thanks for your really kind words, Steve! You should definitely give narrowboating a try - but one cruise is all it takes to become addicted! Haha. You have a great week too! Carol, Rob and Tilly x

    Very frightening experience!

    • @NarrowboatLiberty
      @NarrowboatLiberty  Рік тому +1

      Certainly was, though at first light it felt much less scary! Knowing it’s a deep water basin didn’t enhance the feeling of safety either!

    What a fabulous video, although I may be slightly biased! Who was that strong, handsome hunk helping with the locks? 🤣I've never seen the basin so rough, that was really nasty. A vanilla slice for breakfast, a man after my own heart 🤣Hope you are still enjoying life on the other side. See you soon, Chris.

      Haha. That’s Captain Merrylegs, Chris! Thanks for your help and friendship, both much appreciated! You’ll also feature in the Ribble Link episode in the near future! I tell you what, that cafe at The Shop in Glasson does storming food (accidental pun)!

    Very nice Vlog. I had no idea that the waves would sound so loud. Sad to see the damage the storm did to the side of your boat. Your photos are very nice. Thanks for sharing. 🙏😊🤗 Kathy

      Thanks Kathy! One of the things we learned is that things always sound worse in a narrowboat! It’s like being inside a bell :) Thanks for your kind comment!

    Wonderful video and very informative. I'm surprised that you were able to get any sleep during the storm. Looking forward to your next video. Stay well and safe. ❤

      Thank you Sue! That was a pretty sleepless night, for sure. The sounds in the boat made me think Liberty was going to be seriously damaged - I think we got away lightly with those scratches. The basin can get really rough, I’ve since been told! Take care x

    Enjoyed watching your video-though a shame about adverse weather and damage caused to liberty! Good you had help from Chris negotiating the locks. Hope you don't have to suffer many storms on the journey. Xx 😊

    Very beautiful going up the Glasson Branch, but worryingly shallow in places. We regularly drive there with the dogs for Sunday breakfast or the Artisan Markets.

      Hi! Yes, that describes it perfectly! No doubt opening the sea gates lets a lot of water out of the Basin, which in turn takes a lot of water from the main Lancaster canal, which is itself very shallow in places. No easy solution, we think. Thanks for your comment!

      Hi Wayne! Glad you had a more peaceful experience at Glasson, which is a lovely stretch of canal, for sure! Thanks for your kind comment! Rob, Carol and Tilly xox

    Why the branch? Well the Lune up to Lancaster was silting up and Glasson become the furthest upriver boats could safely navigate..

    • @NarrowboatLiberty
      @NarrowboatLiberty  Рік тому

      That’s correct William! There are some decent sized boats in the basin, clearly capable of going to sea and travelling a fair distance!
