  • Nick Ross and Sue Cook present. Cases include the disappearance of Michael Boulton in Eyam, Derbyshire (He was later found dead in a cave at nearby Stoney Middleton), A raid on a security van in Blackpool and the murder of Surinder Gill in West London.
    Sorry no March 1990 show, as mentioned before you can see one of the reconstructions: The murder of Keith Burgess in Bristol elsewhere on youtube.

    Thank you as always for posting redcard74.
    The Michael Boulton case is very sad. It seems he loved caving and must have gone exploring one but got trapped. It is particularly tragic because it seems he finally found happiness and stability after a difficult life. RIP.

      Watching it with modern eyes it is obvious now that he was autistic-didn't mix with others, wouldn't look people in the face if possible, his running style etc. Sadly it seems his curiosity got the better of him & like many didn't understand the dangers of what he was doing-he was found 330 foot into a cave with nothing for him to help see-no torch, lighter, matches etc & dies of hypothermia. I guess the police were desperate-but it is hard to see why the case was featured on the show-there were zero sightings of him arguing with anybody or being snatched. This was always the more likely scenario than foul play.

    • @ianpilkington2037

      Correct. I thought the same thing watching the actor running, he was autistic

    • @christophercolquhoun2793
      @christophercolquhoun2793 6 років тому +12

      Just because he wasn't seen being snatched or arguing with anybody doesn't rule out the possibility of foul play. It has to be borne in mind that no-one had any idea what happened to him so the police had to keep an open mind as to what may have happened. Plus, when a child goes missing it makes sense to feature it on crimewatch whether you think foul play occured or not, especially in those days reason being the show could reach a much wider audience than any other medium and maybe something was seen or heard that could help find him. The other thing is there have been several missing person cases featured on crimewatch throughout the years irregardless of any suspicious circumstances.

    • @Hi-kq1vi
      @Hi-kq1vi 6 років тому +4

      @@christophercolquhoun2793 It couldn't be ruled out-but it was the far less likely option & shouldn't have been pushed as the likely scenario based on the total lack of evidence for such/ As we have seen on prior episodes there are lots of missing kids/people profiles-but they don't get a full segment & they air not long after their disappearance-Lee Boxell & the kid who they fished out of the river five days after the appeal aired.

      Hehehe same here. Funny, my mum and I joke about how we both get a deep sense of relaxation from books, websites, videos, etc. dealing with true crime, esp. murder. Serial murder, spree killers, sexual torture, %dismemberment, necrophilia, you name it. The more f**ked up, the more it seems to relax us. As a kid in the 80s through my teenage years in the early 90s, I grew up reading my mum's books on serial killers and true crime after she had finished with them. Her books were always lying around the house, and as far back as the age 7-8 years old I was looking through them. So, these kind of videos are comforting for me, as they bring me back to my childhood!

    Evening everyone. Glad Redcard seems to taken my suggestion and uploaded the main programme and the update in a single upload. I remember this episode as my mum said sometime afterward she couldn't stop thinking of that boy running along the road and then he disappeared. This is the first time I can remember a progress report from a later episode but if I recall right, he was found by a potholer shortly after the programme. It was apparent he had gone explore during his run and got into difficulty in a cave he'd found. So sad, especially after he'd come through so much in his short life. I'd also say from the description of him that it appears he may been someone with Asperger Syndrome however awareness of the condition in 1990 was niche.

    • @Hi-kq1vi
      @Hi-kq1vi 6 років тому +6

      Ah, was wondering where the update was-good idea. Even expert cavers go missing, in their case it is usually ego/arrogance, in his case it seems autism & naivety was the factor.

    Surinder Gill, I refuse to believe he showed up at the Comet in the midst of being kidnapped acting like nothing was happening. It doesn't make sense...it is surely a mistake and I really don't get why the police have it in their official timeline (?)

    • @umranafzal2969
      @umranafzal2969 3 роки тому

      Police have a theory that either he was having affairs with married women or he was in to money laundering.
      My theory is that they tried to kidnap his daughter for ransom. This would explain why the car was seen at the beavers open space as Westway Riding school is there. Not sure if his daughter attended that school or not but Surinder Gill was seen leaving the field with the man in the crash helmet. Maybe under the guise to get his daughter.
      Also wanted to add that kids leave school at about 3pm and the car was seen at 2:30pm and stayed for 30 minutes. This strengthens my theory.

      I think this television archive we are viewing, origins are of VHS video off air recordings onto blank VHS tapes possible some of the earlier CW UK episodes tape origin might have been on Betamax video tapes format then transferred to VHS then possible either a DVD+R or DVD-RW or or DVD-RW or DVD-R or they were migrated from a VHS to a digital file using some some specialist film and television equipment software and or hardware. combination of the above I remember reading RedCard74 has recently enhanced the picture quality of the 1990s if my memory serves well I think RedCard74 has most of them I think up until 1994. I could be wrong though so from VHS to either a DVD-R etc see above and then possibly a digital scan to a HD format obviously not in HD 720p 1080ip or 1080p picture formats as the BBC didn't start this properly until 2006. Although there were some VHS tape formats D-VHS which gave a intodays aspect ratio of 720p that are a High definition picture. Anyway I could be completely wrong and I don't think RedCard74 may have sourced the format D-3 Video tapes which the BBC used to film transmit their television shows until 1998. on the original masters as the picture quality is alot shaped then VHS PAL UK form either way it's fantastic RedCard74 has gone to all this hard work to get theses gems available to see for many else would never probably have seen them. What a ledgend ay!? 😁

      @@ryanohara476 Probably Sony Betacam broadcast masters transferred to SVHS at some point (I saw JVC SVHS/VHS VCR displays on one of the other episodes, and VHS format of some kind would explain the crawl at the bottom edge). Then likely transferred straight to a digital file and upscaled to HD resolution, not quality, for upload.
      TV masters were often on Betacam especially for things like local news until Digibeta and DV formats came in later in the 90s. Up until very recently (2011 even) Digibeta was still widely used.

      I had a look and found a pdf file with this info on it
      Stoney Middleton
      A body found in a cave at Stoney Middleton is
      believed to be that of Michael Boulton, aged 16,
      who disappeared 13 months ago. Derbyshire C.R.O.
      was called in at the time to help Police search for
      Michael in caves around the Eyam area, but without
      any success.
      The body was found in a cavern at the end of a long
      crawl. It is known that Michael had been caving with
      the scouts and thoroughly enjoyed it.
      It is a great pity that his enthusiasm was not directed
      towards a local caving club - perhaps this
      highlights a need for Caving and Mining Clubs to
      establish links with Scouting organisations, to help
      educate younger people into the dangers of caving
      without the proper equipment.

      Hi Dean. I remember watching this episode at the time in April 1990 and being so gripped by it, was eager to find out if there had been any leads. I vividly recall in one of the following months' CWUK episodes (possibly the May episode) Nick Ross providing an update and saying Michael had since been found dead in a cave with the cause of death being due to "natural causes" (I was a child at the time and this was the first time I'd ever heard that expression! As a result it's stuck in my mind all these years)

    Is March 1990 missing? It appears to have been DC Jackie Haynes’ first episode. Despite seeing this April 1990 episode at the time I have absolutely no memory of Ch. Insp. Colin Fry. I'm not sure if anyone would agree he was no substitute for David Hatcher and probably explains why he did not reappear. It also seems to be emblemic of the time that the female officer was of constable rank while her male colleague is of senior rank. I don't know why they couldn't have just got a police constable of either gender to stand in for him?
