Going by the number of recommendations I received to visit this place, all roads seem to lead to Erodu Amman Mess currently when it comes to non vegetarian fare in Chennai. Although only a few years old, this restaurant seems to have built for itself a solid reputation on the back of a legacy that traces its Konganadu cuisine offerings to Erode, Tamil Nadu. I spent the greater part of an afternoon exploring the kitchens here and left only after partaking of most of their popular dishes including a delicious vegetarian meal and mutton biryani. This video is a slightly lengthy watch, but one that should have you salivating for more.
I hope you enjoy this very special episode from Gourmet On The Road, Chennai. Take care; stay safe and strong. Happy eating!

@@nadeemkondkar1275 thank you. 🙏
Prabhu is clearly a chef's chef. And Kripal is loving the conversation. Delightful episode capturing the culture behind cuisine. Well done!
Kripal, just as you have unique cuisines in Uttara Kannada, Dhakshina Kannada and Mysuru region, every piece of Kongunadu has it's own unique cuisines. You have Erode cuisine, Pollachi cuisine, Coimbatore cuisine, Tirupur cuisine and Gobichettipalayam cuisine. Each one, unique in it's variety, taste, aroma and cooking styles.
How nice to hear from the 3rd generation owner of erode amman mess that .he inspired the uttar kannada dishes seeing from food lovers tv ..thats food lovers tv spreadinv the flavours of food through out the country .. food lovers tv stands strong 💪
Being a English teacher, I always watched your channel because of your English fluency. Keep going. Thank you Sir
🙏 appreciate your kind words.
Thanks for bringing us a new place in Chennai....our last visit was in 2017 so we ll definitely try it next time .....n it's a great value to see a lengthy video of ur favourite vlogger so no worries 🙏😊
Good evening dear Kripal - Just returned home and immediately dived into this vlog . From the comments section & views understand that this vlog has already garnered some good traction . Erode Amman Mess it is .. Hello to Shabnam & Mr Prabhu 👋 Lovely history behind the name of the restaurant 🙏 Time for the kitchen tour . The kitchen looks quite clean & professional 👌 I love Konganadu style of cooking as well . My ancestors are basically from Coimbatore. Love your pronunciation of Tamil especially the name of the ingredients like “Chinna Vengayam” & “Thakkali” 👍 Brilliant questions hurled at Prabhu & he was equally adept to answer to your queries 👌 The masalas have been neatly packed & labelled 👌👌 Wow they have customers who come so regularly ( daily for lunch & dinner ) Kalaki is my favourite 😋 Loved the way you dissected the Salna 👍 Never heard of Japan Chicken 🍗. The Kitchen tour as usual was quite insightful 💯 Time to savour the delicacies . Looks like Prabhu is going to treat you will all their speciality dishes . To start the proceedings it’s a Hot NK Rasam 😋 Now for the specialities with Bheja Fry and your review along with the happiness on your face says it all . The chintamani Chicken , Mutton Nalli , Pichu Pota Nattu Kozhi all looks delectable and you relished all the dishes 👌 Now your table is overflowing. . On the veggies we have “ Muta kose poriyal) , chow-chow Kootu, Urula Kazhangu curry & Murungaka Sambhar . On the NV specialties its Era Kuzhambu , Chicken Kuzhambu, Mutton Kuzhambu, Vanjaram Meen Kuzhambu, Vanjaram fry , Japan Chicken , Paratha with mutton , muru muru prawns . Thats a wonderful combo of the Parotta with the Aatu Moolai fry 👌 Time to taste their unique dish Japan Chicken 🍗 and finally you were satisfied with the explanation by Prabhu on the flavour that comes from the Chicken deep fried in coconut oil 💯💯 I don’t think anyone would have caught on the unique flavour like you did . Hats off to you Chief 🙏🙏 Good that you had an interlude in the form of having the Veg Saapadu 😀 So the veggies which we saw earlier has made its way on to your Vazhai ellai 👌 Apart from it we have the Paruppu podi with Nei & soodu saadham 😋😋 I 💯💯 agree with you that a modest dish like a Paruppu podi rice with Murungaka-Chinna Vengaya Sambhar still is as equally flavourful like the NV dishes. I am fine with having an authentic TN Sambhar & that from KN . Chow-chow Kootu rice with Applam is a fab combo 👌👌 It’s time to have the ennai Kathrika curry with rice . Good that you relished the Maanga Pachadi 👌👌 Back to the Nv dishes and it’s the Era curry ( small prawns ) followed by the spicy Kandhari Era ( coconut milk has diminished the spice of the potent Kandhari chili ) . I am surprised that why you have not gone in for the Applam thus far into the vlog ? Vanjaram Meen Kuzhambu with rice is also a fantastic combo . I am drooling as I am watching and enjoying the vlog 😋😋 The Urula Kazhangu curry would have gone well with the Murungaka Sambhar 😋 We make the fried Paratha with simple spices along with some tea ( typical evening snack ) . In this case it’s smothered with the Kalaki with Mutton Kuzhambu . Agree it’s a must try dish 👌👌 Time for your favourite Mutton Biryani and your poetic narrative has done justice to the dish 💯💯💯 The mutton is succulent and melt in mouth types 😋 I agree with Shabnam on how the Biryani itself can be a meal itself . Finally the last scoop is with a Biryani with Mutton curry . Unique combo of Curd rice with Gulkand and you are happy 😀 Thoroughly enjoyed , arguably ,one of your best vlogs . Singara Chennai has made you & us happy . Every frame unfolded an element of magic and I readily lapped it up . Thanks so much for this fabulous vlog 🙏 Take care , stay healthy & blessed . Loads of love & respect 🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️
Hi Rajesh, this was a delicious discovery for me, to understand this version of Konganadu cuisine which is quite different from that of the Salem region that I am more familiar with. The kitchen tour helped provide some useful insights. When it came to the table, at some stage one couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the many dishes we were tasting, all impressionable in their own ways. Which is why we did a reset and called for fresh vazhey yellai to savour the vegetarian saapad. Certainly an eatery to visit if you find yourself in Chennai sometime. Glad you enjoyed this lunch outing, have a great Sunday. Cheers!
Personall I love Loads onions and Jaggery.. I am a fan of UDUPI sambhar and Tamil Brahmin Sambhar Anna...
I still remember the 90s, when I was studying in Erode, amman mess was the most popular place for bachelors and business men. It was a small establishment. The owner used to calculate the total bill on the slate using the slate pencil. The whole fried chicken was the most exotic dish at that time there.
Wow! That whole fried chicken sounds delicious.
Kripaal sir pronuncing in thamizh chinna vengayam , thakkali ...almost speaking very good 👍 as local person .
😇 thank you!

Thank you so much for the mention, Sir! 🙏🏻
Those parottas being placed over newspaper is an eyesore on otherwise a neatly handled kitchen.
Exactly I noticed the same
Kripal Amman is only u tuber who decodes the food .
It's such a joy to see Kripal sir exploring our cuisine!

Cheers from #pollachi #coimbatore
The dish “Fish Molee” too was made for a foreigner, an Englishman in Kerala, apparently he could not handle the spicy Fish Curry. He then requested a Keralite Lady to prepare a mild fish curry, this is how the “Fish Molee” came to be. Regards from Australia. Gary.
After your video we went to dine in Erode Amman Mess in Dubai and we really enjoyed all the dishes we tried. Thank you 🙏
I'm 100% vegetarian. But the non vegetarian items shown and the explanations of the owner simply made my mouth water.! Simply looks yummy ❤❤
Hmm, the biryani looked delish! 😛👍
It was.
Paruppu podi with rice & thuppa , ghee 👌

From what i have travelled throughout the country i have noticed Chennai has the most Millet based restaurants in India and we could proudly say that because we were eating Millets before they forced us to eat Polished white rice and GMO wheat im glad Millets are getting famous back again coz their health has only gotten better 🤗

Dear kripal,
Visit ubm in seenapur. Its unique. You will find it different.
Broiler chicken, for me, is avoidable, in terms of taste. My personal choice, country chicken & of course, the mutton dishes. We have Erode Amman outlet near my residence in Adyar
Lovely to see you explore these cuisines
I was waiting for ur reaction but it was not for nonveg but as soon as u tasted veg I saw dat
Erode is always best
Comparatively Gobichettipalayam Amman mess is famous in Erode District.
There are more famous authentic Kongu messes in Erode than this mess. This Erodu Amman mess famous in Chennai..
Bangalore is no 1 veg and nonveg I love bangalore
Amazing video ❤
Kripal as is best to cover tamilnadu

Super Food Sir 🍗🍗🍗🥩🥩🥩
Thank you, Chethan.
Good afternoon all friends
Very Nice Sir
Kongu style food ....
Bright shards of chilli❤❤❤
Very close to my house. Walking distance
all these are fine, but wondering if eating such spicy non-veg dishes will cause health hazards in such a hot humid punishing climate.
Hot regions of the world have spicier cuisine for a reason. The sweating helps the body cool down.
@@vadlamudisaikrishna there are differences in spice - green chilli makes food spicy, also peppercorn, garam masala (cardamom, cinnamon, cloves) make food spicy as well - but as far as their impact to human body is concerned it's very different. Reason why you will find people living in cold climates prefer the later set of spices. Having paratha, biriyani, bheja fry in chennai is just like having curd rice and buttermilk in Norway.
Rush everytime ..have to wait 15 mins for your seat and relish on kongu dishes 😋..
True! It was certainly a busy eatery.
how can you eat so much food at one go?
some of that , bit of that
kripal sir, it's 'erode' not 'erodu'
It's alright sir.. ..
It is wrongly typed as erodu
I am aware. But that’s how the establishment spells its name.
What's wrong with it! Kannada people called the city or town name in the same pronunciation e.g. Bengalore - benguluru etc.
@@Fact-fictions94Bangalore was the name given by british people as they are unable to spell bengaluru.
Remember even chennai was called as Madras 😂.
How you guys feels if someone ask you are you from Madras ?😅instead of chennai
Do some more meaty fare
RECIPES DISCLOSED BY AMATEURS ARE OK. BUT I DONT AGREE THE CONCEPT SAME WITH PRO FOOD SUPPLIERS BECAUSE BUSINESSES RUN ON RECIPES AND METHOD.
👍👍👌👌👌
Speaking in Kannada bro aru from ware?????wre are you from reply right naw❤
Sir u forgot to remove ur hat in this episode 😊
Papad gets disappointed.
You did not introduce him.
😅
Dont use newspaper for parotta
❤
The spelling of wrong actual spelling is Erode
The name of our city, ERODU, is derived from the Tamil language and is pronounced exactly as it is spelled. The English translation of ERODE, "to slowly destroy something," does not reflect the true essence and beauty of our city. Therefore, we have chosen to retain the original Tamil pronunciation to preserve its cultural significance and avoid any negative connotations associated with the English translation.
