Flair was a heel for most of his career but you would never tell by the crowds. He’s telling them how great he is, insults the crowd, & for them to shut up yet they still cheer him. Only greatness can do that. He barely blinks this entire promo.
That's why a guy like Tully was so important to the Horsemen, he was the guy that reminded everyone that the Horsemen were heels and supposed to be booed. Ric was so entertaining and so funny that people couldn't help themselves, they had to cheer for him, which is cool and understandable but definitely not good for business. Dusty was really pissed about Ric getting cheered more than he was lol.
Look at those eyes. Wow. Intensity/craziness at its finest. Get well, Ric.

This. This is why I’m a wrestling fan. Grew up watching this on Saturday morning, Saturday night and again on Sunday! LOVED IT! No one can cut a promo like this today, NO ONE!

Fakename70 Ron Simmons earned a letter in high school and somebody had to read it to him.
Wow, that would have been terrible. Ron became awesome, but in 1987 he was green and could barely talk in front of an audience. Luger wasn't a 10 years veteran, but he was a great fit since he had that arrogance about him and have had his share of big matches in Florida (title matches against Ric, big angles, very popular, etc). Ron wasn't ready at all for this type of a push in January 1987, and it would have killed his career before it could take off.

Do you really think the guys in WWE never watched Flair's promos? Of course they did, but sadly everything is so micromanaged and scripted in WWE right now that these wrestlers just can't be themselves anymore. No doubt a lot of them would love to go all Flair on the mic, but it's hard to do when every word coming out of your mouth is either written down by a bunch of "writers" or dissected by a bunch of yes men. I'm not saying guys today could top Ric on the mic, no one can, but guys in WWE today don't have the freedom that the guys in the 80's or 90's had, and it's a huge reason as to why WWE is losing viewers left and right.
