Yeah I’ve got to do something different as well. I’m got plans for the future just hope I’m around long enough. I’m kinda slow when it comes to new things just don’t have the time and I don’t like to spend money.
It does make use of a waste stream. I would sell them the same as wood bundles. I like the idea and may end up doing the same as you. I buy my logs and want to make the most of it.
Sounds like the dump trailer is treating you well. I’m just not sure that’s the way I want to go. I’ve got other things in mind. More to follow. Thanks for stopping by.
Ben, you already have the tractor and pallet forks. If you stack wood in IBC tote cages then you have premeasured wood. The 310 gal cages hold exactly 1/3 cord when two rows of 16” wood are neatly stacked inside with about 8” gap between. It can be done with the 275’s too, but you have to stack about 8” above the top rail. Place 3 totes on your trailer with your tractor and you have a cord!
Frank I agree the only problem is I’ve had a hard time finding cost effective totes in my area. It’s always a process but I’ll get there eventually. Thanks for stopping by.
@@OGAOutdoors I would keep doing it the way you are to keep costs down. For the occasional customer who wants a full cord, however, have 3 totes full ready to go …. I only cut for my own use and still stack. I have 3 totes that I use for the short cut offs that wouldn’t stack well.
We have an oil distributor near by and they would give you a semi load just to get rid of them. If I had a tractor that is what I would do for sure. My wood yard is way smaller than yours and have to keep it small.
Ben I love the kindling bags. I love to have campfires and the worst thing is getting wood from the park and it will not burn. Having that kindling would make a huge difference. Keep it up. Myself, I would pay the $15 to not have the frustration of getting wood to start up.
Cut, split, stack, season, repeat! Pink oak, looks good on my video. Cool looking wood color! We have had atmospheric rivers of rain here in the Pacific Northwest. No real flooding here in Stayton, but the Oregon Coast got hit pretty hard. Some of the roads I use to go salmon fishing washed out. Hope they repair them by summer!!!
@OGAOutdoors No kidding Ben! Steve's salmon fishing must be priority for road repair, no doubt. Salmon fishing more important than firewood cutting for me. Firewood cutting a close 2nd though. But grandkids top all the fun activities!
Thanks James it does. I just came in from splitting and had a few that were still heavy when cut in half. Still got it done though now time to go noodle the rest. Take care.
I get Oak from a guy who's salvaging dead trees from his woods. It's a mix of several kinds of oak- whatever is there. There's a fair bit of "pink" Oak in it. No idea what species it is, just that the wood is much lighter in color. It seems to smell more Oaky- like white oak- when it's burned. This year's load also contained a dozen or so 3-4" dia rounds of Hop Hornbeam. (aka Ironwood) One of the densest, highest BTU woods around here. No idea if it's any good for grill wood, but it sure makes good coals. Also hard on chains, lol. If it's semi- dry or seasoned, it's like trying to cut rock. It's an understory tree, and doesn't get very big- 12" is a biggun- but we have plenty of it here in WNY
I’ve never cut any of the ironwood. I don’t even know if we have it around here. From the way you describe kinda glad I haven’t come across any. I really don’t have the need for the super BTU stuff with our climate. Who knows maybe it will get cold this year and I’ll have to break out the hickory oak blend. Thanks for stopping by enjoy your weekend.
Good video. 👍🏻👋 Did you find a splitter or a system to upgrade to Ben , to be able to split the big rounds that you were having some trouble with ? Have a good day.
Not yet I’m in full blown production mode among all my other things I have going on. It will be sometime down the road. I’ve got something in mind for some modifications but I’ve got to make a few phone calls. Thanks for stopping by.
This is the first video I've seen kindling bags like yours. I wouldn't pay $15 for a bag, but some people might. I'm haven't adjusted my mindset to the prices under the current economic conditions. I kinda see the value of something as what people are willing to pay. I know I am not willing to pay $75K for a new pickup. Good luck with your kindling bags and if people will give $15 for one, ask them if they would like two. LOL. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers
Yeah Bob I’m still on the fence. It’s definitely going to be at least $10. I guess in the grand scheme I just need to make $77 to pay for the bags lol. I’m definitely with you on the truck. You’ve seen what I drive. I do have a wish list though. Have you ever seen Outdoors with Larry & Robin?
I think it's a great idea to carry along a couple bags of kindle. 15.00 is a fair price, not everyone is a lumber Jack. As people get older , making things easy is worth what ever it cost. Not everyone has saws, tractors, splitters, trailers. Dont short yourself, you have a large investment. Your bags are very professional looking , nice and neat. Stores sell potatoe salad for more then raw potatoes. Its convenient. Your a hard working, honest person, with great product. Dont sell yourself short. Great video, as always!!!!!
@@mrk2163 Thanks for watching. Most people think they are overpriced at $15. I’m still figuring it out. I may go back to $10. I need to see what the demand is if there’s one. I use the stuff every day. Like I say time will tell.
Ben I would sell the Kindling for $10. It was headed for the burn pile anyhow. And I would drive a steel post in your firewood rows every 8 feet to mark off a Face Cord or "Rick" as it is called in the south. Thanks for making the video! Fight 'em fair! -Everett
Everett I have a couple of rows that have the fence posts. I kinda like to leave them off then I can easily change up if needed. Seems most everyone is leaning in the $10 direction.
That pink oak is interesting. We have white oak on our property but I've not seen that. Maybe some mineral content in the soil? As for the bags of splitter scrap, $15 seems a bit on the high side to me but I'm not in the firewood for sale business. If there's a demand for the product and the market will support the price then I'd say it's a good price. Sounds like you're going above and beyond in terms of accommodating your customers. Unfortunately, some people will just take advantage of your good nature.
We’ll have to see. My bottom dollar is $10. I’ll just let it fall on the ground otherwise just not worth the time. Thanks for watching hope to hear from you again.
@@hsvkid I thought when I saw hsv Huntsville. I lived in Harvest for a few years about 20 plus years ago. I get over that way a lot my bus route leaves from Creekside. Thanks for watching.
Your shooting to high you'll frighten people away at 15. 5 or 6 is the ballpark and if you think it's to much work don't do the kindling. It would have to be in line with what your selling your same size bags of logs it's literally the fine shards or scraps of wood enjoy your videos keep on splitting 👍🇮🇪🍀
Thanks so much for watching. I really think my market will support at least $10. That may be where I land I’ll just have to wait and see. Worst thing is I’ll let it fall on the ground and leave it if there isn’t a market.
I believe you think $15 is to high because it’s “trash” to you. But if it’s selling at $15 keep it there. If you are having trouble selling at $15 then lower. Also when did you step up to a Ford??
Thanks for watching. If you’re not subscribed to my channel now would be a great time. Thanks Ben.

Great video!! I stack my wood differently to help get full cords. Kindling idea is Great!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day

This is why i like my 8ft truck bed and trailer. Both levels are 1 cord .
Yeah if I deliver enough I could probably figure it out. Hope you have a great weekend.
I know the feeling Ben, seems like every time you need the trailer it's loaded with something else! Be safe and have fun in the process.
Yeah all part of it always moving and adjusting. I’ve got to cut more today so I guess I’ll have everything I own scattered around.
Cool! Never seen the pink oak color before!👍👍
Jeremiah I get it a lot but then it dries out eventually. I assumed all white oak did it at some point.

Billy we will just have to see how it goes. I’m hoping my market will support $10. Time will tell may not be an interest in kindling.
Ben You are a hard worker and a great husband Merry Christmas
Thanks Sharon hope you have a very merry Christmas as well.

James thanks for the support. I’ve got to decide but for now I’m thinking $10. Heck I’ll probably only sell ten this winter.

That kindling bag looks like it could be a great way to bring in some income
I think so. Hopefully the customers will see the benefits of the kindling.
