The Legion Go startup time varies - and frankly sometimes the Legion Space app doesn't even boot up (which is good). The Go battery life in real world for me has been about 10-15 minutes more than the Ally. I run the ally in a custom TDP 18w manual mode. And the Go was in its "performance" mode. Playing Diablo 4 at 720 on the ally 800 on the Go, I got 1h 23 minutes on the Ally. On the Go, I got 1h 37 minutes. If I run in "turbo" mode on the Ally, I get a bit over 65 minutes. The Go for me is the better handheld for a few reasons. 1) Battery is a smidge better, 2) the sticks are tighter and are hall effect, so less likely for drift, 3) the screen. It blows away the Ally and the Steam Deck. I'm hoping for some firmware updates and optimization on the Go, because for this processor, this device is the way to go. I am planning on upgrading my SSD to a 2TB in the Go, as I did with the Ally.
Isn't performance like 25w? Balance is 15w and would make it a lot more comparable. If you did that it would be like 2 and a half for the Go Go and 1:30 for the Ally.

I’d love to see the new battery drain test due to the editing mistake. I’ve also been curious about the native screen mode, some people getting portrait while Lenovo still states it’s supposed to be Landscape for official released ones. Also I’ve seen lots of complaints on how laggy the games are on GO, I’d love to see a comparison.
Interesting comparison. I am wondering if some of the power settings on the Lenovo were not working properly? According to a quick look the ally has 40Whr battery, and the LGo has 49Whr. With the same basic hardware inside, how could the LGo lasts almost 3x as long with a 25% larger battery? I am wondering if some settings didn't stick, which led to increased battery life, and perhaps slower loading times? Just an hypothesis though. Nice testing btw!
Probably different tdp. There's no way in hell that the llgo will archive 3 hours on baldurs gates lol unless he put a quiet mode 10w something like that.
There's more to the battery than just mah. First, TDPs aren't equivalent. So just because they say they're using the same TDP they may not. Second is components, screen power usage can vary incredibly wildly. Comparing two completely different panels just based on brightness, color levels, ect has nothing to do with power consumption. It's only comparable when you're increasing brightness in the same panel. Also battery composition can be different. That's why the new OLED Stream Deck gets double the battery life while only increasing mah capacity by 20%. So just because they use the same CPU/GPU doesn't mean they are the "same".
Legion is a new product that is not yet available in most countries. It will receive optimizations, patches and it will be better. This does not change the fact that it is better to buy a tablet for multimedia and Android games, emulation is also enough. The battery life of portable consoles is terrible. At this price, maybe add a little more money and you have a Samsung Tab S9, iPad Pro M2.

Interesting comparison. I was prepared to get the Legion Go but perhaps the ROG Ally might make more sense since I am use to the ROG PC laptop interface by now. Plus don't really care of the loud fans as well.
ROG has the best fans in my opinion. and the ROG ally is much more stable than the legion GO
The rog ally runs cooler and quieter there was just a new video posted that the performance is way better on the ally than the legion go
The new software update for the lenovo is out on the 10th. So you gonna see the difference after that?
Yeah for sure. Probably on my shorts page
peu etre non ?
Great testing, thank you!
Glad I helped!!!
I really wanted the Legion Go to destroy the Ally. And while it still seems like a great device, the decision to go with a portrait screen really cripples it for me. That and the weak speakers.
What does portrait screen mean?
Why does the portrait screen matter so much?
@@PeteOlivaIt can for game display settings. The Deck has a layer to correct it for games with issues and Valve are constantly adding them. Will Lenovo do the same?
@@rushmore3927 I hope so. This is honestly one of the main things that I hear a lot of people talking about that is making me apprehensive about taking the plunge.
@@PeteOliva Because scaling is all messed up. For example, Red Dead Redemption is unplayable with Vulkan on a portrait screen. The ROG Ally runs it perfectly.
The Ally is killing the Legion Go in most of these comparison videos. Go has a bigger screen and better battery .
I just wanted to say you Jewelry looks good on you Hands
Oh heck yeah my family are jewelers!
Hola con que resolucion lo probaste en la prueba de bateria?
I believe some chinese company will make a mini keyboard for the legion
Excelente video y esfuerzo
Everything is new both first generation of both lenovo and RoG gaming handheld pc. Everything can be adjust in the next rog ally 2 and legion 2 maybe naxt 2 years
Was that max fans? Because my Go never sounds like that.
Max fans, keep in mind the mic was directly facing the fans output so it is a bit more dramatic
holy god bro my eyes 😅
dont do that anymore with the lights
btw amazing video
but i think at the end the differences are not that big
only thing what matters is the size of the device and the display itself and of course battery
its like an iphone pro and pro max . . .😅
Exactly!
at 10:00min... thank you i'm epileptic
Hahaha
my go boots 6 sec to get to the log in. not sure why yours took forever. lol
Love your videos bro
Bud, I swear I’m not trolling you but your legion go is way slower with start up on both the boot and legion space, then mine.
I don’t know what’s up with your, I do have my vram up to 4g though.
Dang. I just changed the v ram
@@CyberDopamine be carful though, when I did change it and played a graphics intensive game, the charging stopped working and I had to turn it back to 3g.
I bought a 100wt charger and now it works on 4g. I think they may need to update the firmware to help support 4g with the 65 wt charger.
@@CyberDopamine games run sooo much more smoother then the rog at 4g but the battery thing is concerning
I’ve changed it now. Luckily no battery issues yet!
Im gonna get an asus rog ally for now. But i really want a laptop to play Starfield at 60 fps
Can you do the ally vs steam deck oled ?
Hello I have a issues making this decision between a 400 dollar 264gig steam deck and a rog ally z1 for $450 I’d like to know everyone’s thought on to matter and if there is anything extra I should know before making a choice pls help
What games do you play?
@@CyberDopamine cod apex metro cp 2077 I play a lot of Xbox pc pass dead space starfield and atomic heart
Other than that I play a bunch of random games constantly downloading new games to try and play
You play more heavy hitter games so I’d focus on performance. I vote ROG
@@CyberDopamine sounds good but just to clarify I’m talking about the non extreme version which I’m not sure how it compares to the decl
The Lenovo go is definitely an amazing device when plugged it got more add to the fps… I have been playing returnal since it amazing you got some drop but overall it good. They have to look at god of war 2019 it’s not really pleasant. I totally forgot the size of the device when I got immersed in the game in fact I love it. I really don’t if I have to mention the battery start draining when you turn on the game …
Great Vid as Always Just BE CARFULL!...showing personal info by accident in future vids.
Thank you. I will be more careful next time
Did you get a chance to test The Finals whist the beta was running?
Yes!!!! ROG ally was at 70fps, legion go was at 50 fps. Once optimization kicks in, you’re gonna have an absolute blast on the Legion go. I actually dock it, and use my mouse and keyboard.
Incredible! What accessory do you use to dock it? And out of interest, what mouse and keyboard do you use? Thanks man 👍
The ally is still better even now there was new video that the ally performance still outperforms the legion go plus it runs quieter , cooler
And its more lightweight so its use is more for a handheld than the legion go
Great video! I subscribed.
Thank you so much!!!
FxSound will make the the Legion go speakers way better.
What is that? Just a program that can eq?
It won’t actually, though. Mediocre hardware is still mediocre hardware.
@@Splackavellie85 do you have the device? Because I have it. I know it won’t be better than the Rog device regardless, but it sounds better than out of the box.
@@CyberDopamine yes
So basically rog for the win ,no surprise here holla
Love the profile pic.
What ssd are these two using?
I’m sorry but when you say “but when the screen turns on, it doesn’t matter” Yes, it actually does matter. This is why these companies put “bigger” everything on products. Because it lures people in like this. The Ally beats the Legion in most categories. I wanted to get the Legion and sell my Ally, but the only thing that it has going for it is the screen, and no that doesn’t make it ok. Try and be less bias next time. Be at 0 with both items and be straight forward
big big thanks for doing this...i m thinking for both devices and i dont know which one better
The lenovo legio have an oled screen?
No it does not
I can see that you are using the new DJI Osmo Pocket 3. I have one and its amazing.
Good eye!!! From reflection?
