      Successful people do not quit solid career positions to get MBAs. They do it at night. If he quits his job to become a starving student, he’s not worth the paper the MBA will be written on. Zero judgment, and nobody will hire him.

      In his situation, it’s possible to take an MBA at night. However, it sometimes makes sense to leave work to pursue an MBA. It pretty much only makes sense if your going to an M7 school.

      I learned this in my economics class in college, and is an eye opener. Every time I decide what I want to do in my life, I also factor in the opportunity cost, whereas before I didn't. I hate that they don't teach this in high schools.
      PS. I'm a computer science student.

    I received my MBA in Minneapolis from one of the premier programs. Did it at night and had my company pay for it. Took me five years and am glad I got it. This guy would be insane to take two years off from work to get an MBA.

      @@twincherry4958 I would consider top 25-30 program in the US a premier MBA. I've met and worked with Ivy League MBA's and can't say i've been any more impressed or that they are any more successful than graduates of other MBA programs. In fact I would steer my own children away from the Ivy's as I think they are overpriced for the value of education you receive and I haven't seen any benefit other than name recognition.

      @@twincherry4958 Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota has a pretty good MBA program. It's not Ivy League, but still a good place to get it from.

      @@Richb711 Having to deal with FDA validation is not for the faint of heart. There are some critical systems if they don't work can chain out to someone dying. You get paid well but you are personally responsible for the stuff you sign.

    Even though 5-6k is quite low, it is refreshing at the same time to see there are people out there that are a bit finicky with their money vs the calls that we usually hear.

      People don’t know what they ask for sometimes. I’ve been mentored by several executives and what people perceive isn’t reality. Some of my colleagues and I make a lot of money without the added stress or responsibility. Being content in life can be as lucrative as being ambitious.

    I work for a major Healthcare provider. Dave is right. Most of these places have a tuition remittance program. They want you to use your knowledge to make them better.

    Dave is right. Do the MBA in the evenings. Many universities deliberately hold classes at 6 p.m. to accommodate full-time workers.
    It will take longer to complete the degree but it does not matter in the long run.
    Dave is correct when he mentioned that the company will pay your tuition. Ask your employer.
    You do not have children yet. You will have time in the late afternoons to attend classes and study.
    Don’t give up your job!
    By the way, I have a M.B.A. from a very expensive university. I went full-time and paid for it with savings.

    “Over educated broke people are everywhere” - my dad flipped out on me because I said I didn’t want to / need to go to graduate school even though he was willing to give me some money for it (but not cover it entirely). He’s 60 and bragged that he’s going to Harvard to get his masters this fall. I told him it’s a waste of money for just a piece of paper. He already has a masters. He just wants to brag about it. Oh and my mom has a masters too in social work.. she’s making less money than I’ll make at my internship this summer.

      In Canada, the government actually forces CPA students to have work experience before they are even allowed to take the CPA exam. This should be mandatory for a lot of graduate programs. Professional student should not be a thing in universities.

    As a matter of fact I do someone who was told by HR that the company cannot promote him as he doesn’t have a Master degree. Either he had to get a degree or work a few more years to be promoted. So he ended up got his MBA in Cornell.

    $25k is more than enough for a 3 year old really nice car. I just bought '18 Mazda CX-5 Touring with 18k miles for $25k out the door and it's stunning. My household income is $150k+ and our other car I paid around $10k for so we are well under the 50% of our income. Get yourself a nice car

    I have an associate degree in social services and a BSRN, and I somehow landed in lower marketing after covid caused an early retirement from nursing. I have in those 5 years became a marketing manager for my company and am loving it. I now get to bank 20 years of retirement and do something I love again until I don't want to anymore.

    State college bachelor's degree and I work for one of those prestigious private colleges. Sometimes you just need the degree and or professional knowledge and work history. It doesn't really matter where you get it after a few years.

    First day of MBA school, the Finance professor explained how stupid we were for being in MBA school. Opportunity cost of not working and collecting a salary, not putting money into a retirement account, taking student debt to go to MBA school. He told us we would be better off going to work as a janitor and saving money instead of going into debt!

    I got my MBA while working on my job. It was just done at night and the company paid for 90% of the MBA while I continued working. So my MBA cost me about $3000(the company paid about 27K for it), and My company benefitted from that study. Its the only way to go when the company has a tuition assistance program.

      Yeah exactly what company i was thinking. I applied as a software engineer out of college and the starting salary was a little north of 100k. Rigorous interview process though.

      Keep in mind that if he’s working under a contract, he is responsible for MORE than the usual taxes. Contractor salaries always sound really nice, but they have to take care of what would normally be handled by the employer.

    In our country if we are doing post graduate studies we do it while we work. We don’t leave our jobs to go back to school. Dave is right... Do it at night.. He has no kids at the moment so he can do it part time...

    Did an English degree but fell into finance project management due to hard work. Did MBA simultaneously while STILL working in 4 months. That got me a raise and did PMP and another raise. I have known so many ppl who quit their good paying job for MBA and they never come back making what they left. Also MBA was online and virtually free.

    I was told by many IT companies that I needed experience in order to get into the field... but no one would give me experience. In 2020 I started my own Computer business and it has been a good side hustle. I will start applying to cross into the field I want with the new experience I created on my own.

    I love this advice! I'm screaming why would you quit your job do it on the go. I am completing my DSW at UPenn and have multiple streams of income, while being a first time mom. Vanderbilt has an awesome Executive MBA and so does Harvard etc. Don't quit your job unless you just don't want to work.

    MBA isn’t as needed as people assume. These colleges and universities are doing a great job selling this idea. I’ve worked for some high profile executives at F500 companies without MBAs and are some of the most down to earth and smart people I’ve ever met.

      I agree. MBAs do not have the clout that they used to have. However, if you have an employer who is willing to pay for you to get an MBA and it may help you advance in that company or find a better job at another company it's not a bad thing to have.

If there really is hyperinflation (which there won't be) just go outside, sell a marble to a kid for a million dollars and pay off your mortgage. Boom roof over your head paid for. During inflation you want to hold debt.

    Education is an ornament in prosperity and a consolation in adversity.
    Higher education does not guarantee high income certainly not but not everyone goes to school with the purpose of becoming very rich eventually, hard as it may be for an American to believe.
    Also it is a key that opens other doors, especially internationally.
    What the presenters say makes sense if your sole purpose is to make money and if you plan to live locally mainly, as in not working or living long term elsewhere in the world.

    I got my MBA at night at a top ten school while keeping my day job. While networking and job placement is more challenging, you can earn money, continue to advance your career and get your education simultaneously. However, the MBA is not what it used to be, employers are looking for specific skills which you can get through certificate programs.

    You can get an MBA in an online program through an accredited non-profit university. Some companies have programs that can pay for your education while working at the same company.
    It can take longer, but the journey is less stressful.

    The main thing a prestigious school gets you is: contacts & connections, if and only if you dont have to work 80 hours a week + your class load. If you have to work to many hours, and go to class for to many hours; there is no time to connect with people & learn from them.

      True. But holding on to a career and having disposable income are also good things for your further life. So I don't think they're wrong that it's a risky move to quit your job for it. But if he had the option to downscale the amount of hours temporarily, that might be a better option :)

      Exactly - executive MBAs are designed for people who are already in executive positions and want to become a more well-rounded business person and leader, not for someone looking to break into those roles. Regular MBAs are meant for that purpose.

      neither does a regular MBA. I know many CEOs, CTOs, C suite executives with no MBA. An MBA does not automatically guarantee you career success.

      @@kelvingladwin4929 you're right to an extent, most MBAs don't. I would only recommend considering an MBA if you get into a T15 program. If you get into a M7, however, I would consider it very heavily, as these programs can virtually guarantee a more successful career than what you had prior, so long as you don't royally mess up.

    I make the same amount as he does and I just have an undergrad degree in History. The only job that cares about your GPA and education is usually your first one. Experience earns money

    My son went from 150k to 700k thanks to his MBA but he did cash flow it and work while he was getting it.
