Thanks for sharing the guidance on configuring the RAID with mixed drives. I wasted couple of hours on the wrong RAID configuration until I saw this video.
HELLO MY FRIEND. VERY GOOD YOUR EXPLANATION. I AM WRITING TO ASK YOU A QUESTION. IS IT POSSIBLE TO CHANGE A HARD DISK IN FULL OPERATION? WHAT RECOMMENDATIONS WOULD YOU GIVE ME TO MAKE THE CHANGE WITHOUT SHUTTING DOWN THE SERVER?
Nice bro! So I just had a PE R2950 shipped to me from one of our remote sites so I can refurbish it and use for a securuty server. It has 6 1TB 7.2k drives and 2 900gb 10k drives. Now, I don't know the state of these drives so do you recommend l that could scan all of the drives and kind of run some diagnostics?
The 2950 is not worth its weight in gold. You are going to be spending so much more just for a basic security system. I'd rather you go for a r410, r710, or a hp microserver. I personally have a R710 uses 110 Idle and 158w with 13 vms loaded. My 2950 was using 350-400 running vms
Thanks Matthew! This joint runs on a pretty lean budget. The server was sitting in our storage for about 8 months and the suits don't want to spend any money on a new one. I hear what you are saying about the R710s that is actually what is running most of our ESXi hosts and some are on Dell VRTX.
+Wondering IT Systems Dude I would agree with Mattthew but ok wow how it is with tight budgets at work. The setup sounds good for a physical security server or a VM server. I would take it as a VM server/ depending on the PE2950 model make sure it has VT within the BIOS :). For the hard drive - do a test performance on them before building your RAID. Hope that helps - happy fun!
Thank man! It will be used a physical server only. Right now I am keeping all of my ESXi host on R710, VRTX, and soon Dell EMC vxrail. I'll give what you say a shot. Thanks again!
You saved my arse!!! I hope - Been bashing my head for day and half so far with this T330 Dell :( But I agree with others, this is very informative, but cant see the screen very well. Subscribing anyway
@@bjtechnewshd I'm trying this again on R330 server, and while creating Raid 5 after COMMIT - I get 'Additional Virtual Disks cannot be created due to insufficient capacity or absence of configurable physical drives'..... i have 2x 300g as Raid 1 and 3x 2TB for Raid 5. Any hints or clues? or do I have to *gulp* call Dell Support.
Thank you for the information and nothing personal but I really think it would be better if you removed yourself from the configuration part and focused on the screen so we can all see what you are talking about.
Video did not show clearly the monitor , make it clear other wise u only know

Why did you select RAID 0 for OS?
Do you have to press any key in order to load the configurator? thankx
Thanks, I used text mode utility to configure mine but your video helped

without seeing the screen is hard to follow
would you recommend building yourself a server for SMB? Because its a lot cheaper than buying from dell, HP etc.
+strikessshd it depends on how tight your company's budget is for the IT department
thanks for sharing.. hope the part 2 of this video is OS deployment
Can't see thr screen at all, bro

Excellent information and procedure. Thanks a lot for your support. You are cham....
Why don't you show entire screen? Would be easier to see... Thanks
Cannot see the screen. Please upload video again..
Anyone please tell me why is the need for 2 RAID - RAID 0 and RAID 5??
Raid 1 for your OS partition and Raid 5 for you data partition, no raid 0 in this video
@@kevinblair3801 3:53 RAID 0
@@felixmintah8632 been a year, but I rewatched. You said at the beginning you were doing raid 1 and raid 5. Just overlooked when you actually did it.
