フランス・バロックの作曲家でオルガン、クラヴサン奏者のダカンは、6歳でルイ14世のために御前演奏するほどの才能を発揮しました。
やがて教会のオルガニストとして活躍するようになると、クープラン、ラモーと並ぶクラヴサン、オルガン奏者として名を馳せるようになりました。
作品は宗教曲が主ですが、クラヴサン向けの小品も存在します。
「かっこう」はダカンの代表作です。
軽快なパッセージと共に一貫して登場する、かっこうの鳴き声が特徴的です。

A French Baroque composer, organist, and clavecinist, Dacan showed such talent that he played for Louis XIV at the age of six.
He eventually became a church organist, and was ranked with Couperin and Rameau as one of the most famous clavecin and organists of all time.
His works are mainly religious pieces, but there are also some small pieces for clavecin.
The "Curlew" is one of Dakan's best-known works.
It is characterized by the cuckoo's cry, which consistently appears with light passages.
