The Pocket 3 is THE BEST compact camera of 2023. I will continue to say that. However, it’s not without flaws. These our are long-term observations after using this camera to vlog for several months, and why we’ll continue to use an action camera as our main vlog camera, plus how the Pocket 3 actually fits in our vlogging workflow.
thanks for infos....i think its a good infos for dji to take note when developing the next pocket especially for that build-in battery which can shortage the life span of the camera.....at first i thought it was removable lol....

If you're angry at this video, please give your brain a wash. You're probably not a vlogger or youtuber. Your use case may differ to GC. If the camera works perfectly for you, be happy. We should encourage channels to do follow up reviews after extended usage. Initial reviews will always be more optimistic than long term reviews for most products. Anyway merry christmas!
I fully agree! So many weird bashing comments for finally youtube reviewers who offer their opinions on a product. I don’t care if I disagree, we desperately need more honest user experience about ALL products. I have unsub from so many other channels because of their beyond obvious refusal to criticise the obvious about certain cameras etc…
Thanks for sharing. I'm not big on using action cams for vlogs. I can't stand shaky footage or distortion when shooting myself and the pocket 3 deals with that like a champ, making me look good.
It's pretty clear you're more used to action cameras. To me, these aren't pocket 3 cons, but more like differences from action cams because it ain't built for outdoor sports. It's like when you're dealing with pricier full-frame cameras, you can't treat them like action cams as well. I think pocket 3 owns the daily vlog game, cheers!
We’ve been using action cams to vlog since the Hero 7 and still find them preferable to how we like to shoot. But the Pocket 3 does offer different types of shots and may indeed be suitable for daily vlogging depending on your shooting style.
See the Cons in terms of the context. Its a con for this family because they have a kid running around (similar to having a pet), an action cam works better. The Pocket 3 is better for travel vlogs as its so much more flexible in capturing good footage. I do appreciate this video though, it shows that someone's "cons" wont affect me
I can’t believe some of the negative comments with regard to this video. She tells it like it is, and I for one appreciate their telling us some of the drawbacks of the Pocket 3 from a real-use perspective. I find their reviews to be some of the most honest on UA-cam.
Thanks Andy. We have ALWAYS done long-term reviews of our favorite products after we use them and give our honest take on pros and cons. Many of these cons aren’t apparent until you use something long term. No camera out there is perfect.
We picked up one a few weeks ago but agree its not the be all end all camera just another tool to add to the box. But I think it certainly has it's place and have been very impressed with the low light preformance and quality of the footage coming out of the camera.
Maybe you need to get the hang of the gimbal's moves. If you're aiming for a point and shoot vibe, just lock the gimbal, it opens up more choices for you.
I've had the pocket 2 for over 2 years and use it all the time, and the battery is still going strong, so I'm confident with my pocket 3, and I have the action camera but the pocket 3 is definitely better for video quality I get you on its more fragile but they are different cameras for different purposes. I think the best way for you guys to understand the pocket is to understand a camera lens generally. You can't get a micro 4/3 or DSLR level of control from a pocket 3. If you are in sports.. use an action cam. If you are a vlogger... use a compact cam or osmo... if you are a photographer/ videographer... get a real camera. Last thing... a iPhone 15 rivals the pocket 3 in almost every way, and perhaps a bit better in the more practical ways
I think that you are spot on with this video. I recently bought the GoPro 12, and when I saw the Pocket 3, I thought that I made a mistake. By watching this video I realized that I was right. My setup is GoPro 12, with Volta, Media Mode, Rode Y split cable, Rode video mic go 2 and Boya wireless mic. The only thing I miss is the ability to simultaneously record on separate audio tracks with Boya and Media Mode internal Mic (so I could drop the Rode video mic 2), and that could be easily fixed with a software update. Think about it... much of this video could actually have been made with the title "DSLR cameras - 7 things we don't like about them". Or "Screwdrivers- things... etc" in which you might point out how bad a screwdriver is for banging in a nail. Well, hopefully you will save someone who doesn't understand that the Pocket 3 is not an action camera from buying it, if they think that it is one. And I suppose there's some folk out there who need that reminder. But it would be interesting to know 7 things you don't like about it without comparing it to anything. I love mine to bits, but I could still think of quite a few things that could be improved, and which might well be down the track in FW upgrades. (And as a point of detail, re only being able to change the P3 battery externally - at least you can do that without interrupting the shot. Try that with a GoPro...)
Good points. We compared it to an action camera because that is our main vlogging camera, and people have long thought that we switched to vlogging with the Pocket instead. So we wanted to explain why we haven’t. But you’re right, we could have done without the comparison.

Anyway, vlogging with the Pocket 3 seems to me to require a change of style for many vloggers, particularly if they are talking about the location they are in. The blurring of the location when they talk to the camera can be counterproductive. I'd say that after a few seconds the view should change to the scene, focused, with the narrator now being off camera. To me that's a less obvious difference if switching from Action camera vlogging to Pocket 3 vlogging. Maybe that could form the basis of a further video. The race is on between me uploading that and you, but yours would be more elegant methinks!
I'm glad that you two discussed the issue with the non-removable battery on the OP3. I haven't seen any other reviewer bring this up when reviewing it. That's what's stopping me from buying tech like these or any of the Insta360 Go models; once the battery wears out over time, the whole thing becomes trash even if the rest of the device is in good condition. While I'm on the topic, can you recommend any gimbals for smartphones or small mirrorless cameras that have swappable batteries?
These are great little cameras. I tend to reach for the Pocket 3 more these days. But I shot more cinematic video than I do vlogs. And I almost never shoot any real action footage. The big win for me is the Pocket 3 is recording in 10 bit color, even in normal mode. Great video, thanks for sharing.

We had the Rode with us, but turns out the battery on one transmitter was low, so we switched to the Hollyland Lark Max as a backup. Unfortunately, we forgot to adjust the gain on the transmitters before recording, so that’s why the audio levels are slightly off.
Yeah having a backup is always great. Even a redundant second recording. Your productions values are always excellent so I figured it was some equipment failure. @@Gemini_Connect

Im Shure, the next Go pro gehts an 1 Inch Sensor. This is the only reason for me to Go back to Gopro. The much better lowlight Performance was for me the gamechanger.

Nice video, but many people have experienced hardware defects and software issues with this camera,. It’s definitely a great camera but like the action3 DJI launched another messy launch. DJI definitely has manufacturing quality problems.Glad you guys didn’t experience what so many of us have.

Thanks for the video, much appreciated. I have looked at reviews of the Go 3, X3, Ace Pro, Osmo Pocket 3, and iPhone 15 ProMax and am having trouble deciding which one to go with. I am a magician that wants to get reactions of the people I perform for, as well other simple video of venues and me performing magic. The biggest piece is I don't want to do any post editing (meaning I get the video and can do what I want with it then and there without any downloading or extra computer software). Ideally, I shoot the video, maybe do some sleight editing (simple color correction, cutting the video down, simple transitions) on a phone or tablet (with no transfer of files), then post that video to UA-cam or Instagram. Do you have any thoughts for what might make the most sense for this? Thank you!
Any if these cameras can work for you. It just depends on how you plan to film or place the camera. For example, if you want to wear the camera and film POV, the Go3 would be best. The X3 can also be great for filming from all angles at once, but it requires a lot of editing. I’m guessing you might have an iPhone on hand. I’d try filming with that first and seeing how you like the results. If it’s not enough, I’d look into the Pocket 3-it’s a good complement to the iPhone.

The problems you talk about is not valid for most people having a Pocket 3. It is a really useful camera for many types of filming. It sounds definitely that you work for GoPro, or not?
Hmm, I would have used your OA4 rather than the GoPro…I know one of you uses the OA4 primarily, and the other likes GoPro. Either are good! Love the OP3, but it is definitely one where you need to be a bit more careful…still it is great! Liked the 14 minute child proof test warning!
If you have osmo pocket and number two, then many of these commits are out of date , i stil have the pocket one but give my pocket 2, to my daughter, overall am happy with pocket 3, my only complaint is why no stabilisation built in to these pocket camers.
The only thing holding me back from buying it is the non removable battery. Maybe the battery will last five years no problem. But i dont want to thow something away in five years that i paid six hundred dollars for because i cant put a new battery in it.
also pocket 3 is not a good option for bike recording. i use ace pro on bike and it is very stable with horizon lock option. gimbals on bike can be tricky on street bumbps. i use ace pro in all weather conditions. i am now using with inkee falcon plus gimbal. it is a very good combo.
Guys... Thanks for the VLOG... more importantly to see Mexican Food! Living in Japan, it's difficult to find!. I was ready to pull the trigger on getting the Pocket 3. However, I kept asking myself... is this something I really need or just nice to have? After watching everyone's intoxicated reviews of this camera... I decided to pass! Your videos look great without it using GoPro. Additionally, as a side note... I was a SONY A7Siii and A7RIV user until last week. After having bought a Fuji XS10, just to play with Fuji camera... I got hooked big time. I ended up trading all in for XH2 and XH2S along with lenses. Why? I upgraded my camera when I moved from Chicago to Japan. The menus were in Japanese, not that big of a problem but combined with SONY's menu system and my aging eyes... it got to be too big of a pain in the ass and no longer fun. Technically, SONY is a better camera and lens system (not by that much but noticeably). For me though, it's' great to maneuver the menu in English, have (2) great camera's and lenses and cash back. Trading from SONY to FUJI better than reverse. Now with the money I saved, by not buying the Pocket 3... I'll await FUJI's upcoming announcements to see how I can better piss away my cash. Hehe you want a gimbal camera to act like an action camera?? Those are two totally different cameras for different uses. The "cons" like bookeh, focusing and slow movement are pros. Keep shooting with Gopro 😊
I bought it on the day it was released. It has locked up multiple times on me already but since the latest firmware it hasn't happened again. The quest of finding a backpack mount where the screen faces me continues, as all the adaptors on the market have the screen facing away from me and expect the user to switch to 'wearable' mode (selfie mode with tilt locked'. I can easily switch the camera to 'tilt locked' mode than to scroll down the setting menu to find the 'wearable' mode and still be able to see the screen at all time.....'wearable' mode is just stupid.
In summary the Pocket 3 isn’t an action cam, did anyone think it was ? I use the Pocket 3 with the Action 4 and it’s staggering what you can achieve without humping around a lot of hefty gear.
All the cons are just confirming that the dji is not an action camera like the GoPro, they are more sturdy, always on focus, waterproof etc not a fair comparison at all

You have many pocket 3 revues on youtube, hovewer you have not, ever, mentioned that there are some newer modern phones where the Mimo app cant be instaaled, like my Samsung Galaxy 13. so for me, the Pocket 3 is useless.
Number 2, blurry background? thats not a blurry background *laughs in full frame f/1.2* Seriously though, this thing has like zero depth of field unless you are right on top of your subject. I guess it might be blurry if you are used to action cameras but for someone who shoots portraits with real cameras and lenses, thats not a blurry background 😛 I wish they made a pro version with a longer focal length to actually get some depth of field. Regarding your problem 7:17 use the CPL or mist filter, problem solved.
What's the point of make a comparison with the things an action cam can do and complaining about it? Then you might as well compare it to an electric razor and complain that it doesn't shave hair sufficiently
This is our personal take. Since the start of this channel, we have always said that we vlog primarily with an action camera. Many people expected us to switch to vlogging with the Pocket 3, but we have not, and these are the reasons why. And they're both pocket cameras, neither is an electric shaver or submarine

I mean, there's no point in buying a Sony zv1 to vlogging and criticize the fact that it's not waterproof. just as it makes no sense for any mirrorless camera. Lol... I think its okay to compare the video quality of osmo vs action cameras but comparing them base on their usability or function is just pure bulls*t.. osmo is not an action cam ..oh god =D.. the only cons I have with osmo is the unreplaceable battery.. the rest are great..

I bought the Pocket 1 several years ago, and while it was fun for a few weeks, I found it required too much fiddling vs just grabbing my GoPro or even my phone when I wanted to shoot something. I’m thinking this camera would result in the same place for me after the initial testing and the newness fades.
I would call the lack of zoom and poor optics a disadvantage. The lens is really bad because there are massive chromatic aberrations. Everything else is just great.
The point of this video is not to say don’t buy the Pocket 3, but rather to understand that it is not a camera that can do EVERYTHING, because no camera out there is perfect.

We’re finding that Tilt Lock and FPV mode are working best for our style of shooting, but Lock mode is another good option.
Oh is there a lock mode for the gimbal on the pocket 3?

Any if these cameras can work for you. It just depends on how you plan to film or place the camera. For example, if you want to wear the camera and film POV, the Go3 would be best. The X3 can also be great for filming from all angles at once, but it requires a lot of editing. I’m guessing you might have an iPhone on hand. I’d try filming with that first and seeing how you like the results. If it’s not enough, I’d look into the Pocket 3-it’s a good complement to the iPhone.

The problems you talk about is not valid for most people having a Pocket 3. It is a really useful camera for many types of filming. It sounds definitely that you work for GoPro, or not?

Hmm, I would have used your OA4 rather than the GoPro…I know one of you uses the OA4 primarily, and the other likes GoPro. Either are good! Love the OP3, but it is definitely one where you need to be a bit more careful…still it is great! Liked the 14 minute child proof test warning!
OA4 is my choice, but my partner prefers GoPro. Since we already use a DJI camera (Pocket 3), I compromise and use the GoPro when filming with him.
If you have osmo pocket and number two, then many of these commits are out of date , i stil have the pocket one but give my pocket 2, to my daughter, overall am happy with pocket 3, my only complaint is why no stabilisation built in to these pocket camers.
There is stabilization in the form of the gimbal, but we do think some form of EIS or electronic stabilization could be nice to have as an option.

The only thing holding me back from buying it is the non removable battery. Maybe the battery will last five years no problem. But i dont want to thow something away in five years that i paid six hundred dollars for because i cant put a new battery in it.
also pocket 3 is not a good option for bike recording. i use ace pro on bike and it is very stable with horizon lock option. gimbals on bike can be tricky on street bumbps. i use ace pro in all weather conditions. i am now using with inkee falcon plus gimbal. it is a very good combo.
I'm a Pocket 2 owner strongly leaning towards that Ace Pro. Lots to like.

Guys... Thanks for the VLOG... more importantly to see Mexican Food! Living in Japan, it's difficult to find!. I was ready to pull the trigger on getting the Pocket 3. However, I kept asking myself... is this something I really need or just nice to have? After watching everyone's intoxicated reviews of this camera... I decided to pass! Your videos look great without it using GoPro. Additionally, as a side note... I was a SONY A7Siii and A7RIV user until last week. After having bought a Fuji XS10, just to play with Fuji camera... I got hooked big time. I ended up trading all in for XH2 and XH2S along with lenses. Why? I upgraded my camera when I moved from Chicago to Japan. The menus were in Japanese, not that big of a problem but combined with SONY's menu system and my aging eyes... it got to be too big of a pain in the ass and no longer fun. Technically, SONY is a better camera and lens system (not by that much but noticeably). For me though, it's' great to maneuver the menu in English, have (2) great camera's and lenses and cash back. Trading from SONY to FUJI better than reverse. Now with the money I saved, by not buying the Pocket 3... I'll await FUJI's upcoming announcements to see how I can better piss away my cash. Hehe you want a gimbal camera to act like an action camera?? Those are two totally different cameras for different uses. The "cons" like bookeh, focusing and slow movement are pros. Keep shooting with Gopro 😊
It’s a matter of perspective and shooting style. We alternate between an action camera and a gimbal camera depending on what we’re shooting 🙂
Where is the 5 out of 7 and 7 out of 7?
I bought it on the day it was released. It has locked up multiple times on me already but since the latest firmware it hasn't happened again. The quest of finding a backpack mount where the screen faces me continues, as all the adaptors on the market have the screen facing away from me and expect the user to switch to 'wearable' mode (selfie mode with tilt locked'. I can easily switch the camera to 'tilt locked' mode than to scroll down the setting menu to find the 'wearable' mode and still be able to see the screen at all time.....'wearable' mode is just stupid.
In summary the Pocket 3 isn’t an action cam, did anyone think it was ? I use the Pocket 3 with the Action 4 and it’s staggering what you can achieve without humping around a lot of hefty gear.
Yup. IMO it’s great to use WITH an action camera.

You have many pocket 3 revues on youtube, hovewer you have not, ever, mentioned that there are some newer modern phones where the Mimo app cant be instaaled, like my Samsung Galaxy 13. so for me, the Pocket 3 is useless.
Take a look at the sky at around 1:10. I don't like how it is completely white. Seem overexposed.
Number 2, blurry background? thats not a blurry background *laughs in full frame f/1.2* Seriously though, this thing has like zero depth of field unless you are right on top of your subject. I guess it might be blurry if you are used to action cameras but for someone who shoots portraits with real cameras and lenses, thats not a blurry background 😛 I wish they made a pro version with a longer focal length to actually get some depth of field. Regarding your problem 7:17 use the CPL or mist filter, problem solved.
We have a mist filter for the Pocket 3, but can’t use it with the wide angle lens. The light flares only happen when using the wide angle lens.
What's the point of make a comparison with the things an action cam can do and complaining about it? Then you might as well compare it to an electric razor and complain that it doesn't shave hair sufficiently
This is our personal take. Since the start of this channel, we have always said that we vlog primarily with an action camera. Many people expected us to switch to vlogging with the Pocket 3, but we have not, and these are the reasons why. And they're both pocket cameras, neither is an electric shaver or submarine

ok I understand, but the comparison would be with cameras of the same category or similar. I mean, there's no point in buying a Sony zv1 to vlogging and criticize the fact that it's not waterproof. just as it makes no sense for any mirrorless camera. If you want waterproofness, you need to get an action camera

Thanks for sharing both sides. I bought the Pocket 1 several years ago, and while it was fun for a few weeks, I found it required too much fiddling vs just grabbing my GoPro or even my phone when I wanted to shoot something. I’m thinking this camera would result in the same place for me after the initial testing and the newness fades.

I would call the lack of zoom and poor optics a disadvantage. The lens is really bad because there are massive chromatic aberrations. Everything else is just great.
Good point about the zoom. We rarely use it for those reasons.

The point of this video is not to say don’t buy the Pocket 3, but rather to understand that it is not a camera that can do EVERYTHING, because no camera out there is perfect.

@@anabi2539The Pocket 3 is THE BEST compact camera of 2023. I will continue to say that. But even the best camera is not a PERFECT camera. There are drawbacks to everything, especially cameras, and many of those cons aren’t obvious until you use something long term.
